They seem to be getting a lot of stick from the fans I`ve noticed , and the pundits ain`t too happy with them either .

Bad. They are just advertising breaks, most of the games are not played in high temperatures or humidity. Football is a game of two halves not four quarters. They break up momentum.

And don`t get me started on goal music!

If they`d just said we are having quarter breaks for commercials I`d have pragmatically accepted it.

Being told hydration breaks are required in an air-conditioned stadium kinda makes me mad.

I think the hydration breaks are a good idea in principle but a) they should just stop the clock when they happen and b) they should be limited to 1 min max. Some of them seem to take 3-5 minutes!!!

I’d also add that the two teams should be instructed to go to opposite corners the other side of the dugouts where water/fluids will be available. In other words no instructions from the management teams. It’s a nonsense.

Not keen myself. This decision was made with profit in mind from a greedy FIFA selling more adverts and has now turned our beautiful game into a "Game of 4 Halves".

IF there is a genuine risk of dehydration, there good, if not waste of time, done for US advertising, also coaches should not be on field, it`s not a new tactical awareness session.

Allowing adverts during a live broadcast and allowing on-field coaching during a game are both indicative of the Americanisation of `the beautiful game`. They just see it as an opportunity to make a buck. Leave well alone.

Just wait till the leagues find out how much extra dough FIFA have made from these through adverts - will be a common thing in 3-4 years time for no reason whatsoever other than greed.

In 1994 the US (from recollection) attempted to try change it to 4 x quarters as the US audience couldn’t concentrate for 45 mins. They have their wish with these so called hydration breaks. More like commercial breaks at a high $ rate with a kick back to fifa::::

Its a hard life...

They`re just one component part of the sheer greed at play in the organisation of the tournament to the detriment of the game.

With some of the crazy temperatures over there I have no problem with a 5 minute break to ha e a drink and catch your breath. Yes they are also a shameless cash grab but it`s good for the players.

You don’t need a 3 minute break in an air conditioned stadium……its a complete farce.

And this p*sh about it being only fair that everyone gets one is just opening a huge can of worms for later in the year when the league season restarts IMO.

I can`t say it bothered me at the game tbh.

Guessing they have to keep it fair so need to have at every game rather than just the outdoor games in "severe" heat 🤔

It would be know the views of sports scientists, and get an understanding of how they ensure players are properly hydrated at the start of the first half and at the start of the second half.

It is not all but the temperature. High humidity can make you sweat profusely, meaning you can need to be rehydrated before 45 minutes have passed.

The current rehydration break at the WC is obviously flawed. Too long. And has become a coaching break.

Gianni Infantino has explained that one of the main reasons for having breaks in every match is to create "equal conditions" for all competing nations.

He said: "There is no additional revenue for Fifa, as all commercial agreements were signed well in advance. This is not a financial issue for us. For us, it is purely a sporting matter."

His argument is that allowing a break where the weather conditions necessitate it means you have to allow breaks in all games, even if it`s just to allow all coaches to speak to their teams twice during play.

It mahes sense I suppose.

Slavering hoor. Ref could have called it in England game when the guys had a head knock. Started again for a couple of mins then stopped it to suit Fox

You can`t fault the logic though, can you? If one game in a grouip was played in a stadium where the temperature went over 30 and the teams were allowed a couple of breaks which meant their coaches could talk to them but the other game was played at, say, 25 and there were no breaks, wouldn`t the coaches in the second game feel they were at a disadvantage?

Just say it’s 15 degrees in the next match, then 5 and -5 in the ones after, do they get hydration breaks? Are we going to get hydration breaks at EEP in January?

There isn’t logic to it other than TV ad revenue that FIFA might not make from directly but accepted knowing they were making more money from this bid than the others.

I think it`s more logical than thinking temperatures at this time of year in North and Central Anerica are going to drop to 15, far less 5 or -5! I suspect it`ll be up to the SPFL (ie the clubs) whether we get hydration breaks at EEP in January. There`s more chance of getting heated seats I suspect.

A disadvantage from what? The team they are playing aren’t getting a 3 minute break….both teams playing a game play in the same conditions, you arent playing a team that gets a break in your game.

I suspect some coaches wouldn`t see it that way. I get it though - Infantino`s a bogeyman so nothing he says can be sensible.

I don`t know what it`s like in Miami, but Boston and now Toronto were / are scorching.

Went to the Blue Jays game yesterday which was moved from 7pm to 4pm, presumably to accommodate the Panama v Croatia match at BMO Field.

It was scorching just sitting in the sun, never mind running about - so much so that ALL of our group sought the shade of the concourse at various times.

We were also luck with some cloud cover on occasion.

I`d imagine Miami is far far worse temperature wise 🤔
