I know this post is going to be very unpopular on here .. But is it just me or has the activity in the transfer market so far been really under whelming . Will be the same story with some fans the season hasn’t started give the boys a chance etc etc etc . IMO this is not a title winning squad we have. John Tod is miles off it at this level and can’t be a first team starter he’s the sort of player who needs loan time in Div 2 . Kane /Rudden injured 50% of the time .
Leaves us Shaw . This is a really weak squad . After the Scottish cup run I had hoped Lennon would be heavily backed with cash to spend it seems that isn’t the case . Kind of the same story as the Germans really . Another almost /what could have been season ahead .

Yes get a grip. Yes season hasn’t started , heard it all before . We should be fighting to be number 1 not just play off spots .

Reality check ?! Why last few teams to win this league have splashed the cash and signed proven players at this level or higher . We simply aren’t doing this .
We have the fan base we have Scottish cup money why aren’t we going for it all out with signings to win the league . It’s proven if your willing to sign good players the league is there to be won .

I don’t understand your point about the strikers. We have Cooper, Andrew Tod, Calumn Morrison and young Fyfe etc
Plenty of options up top.

I do agree wholeheartedly we should be going after the title from day one though.
Being runners up is notoriously difficult in getting to the Premier League as Partick know so well.

Whilst I understand the sentiment, hopefully it`s wrong.

However a concern i have, not really a concern is that so many players have left over the closed season, so we are now not paying their wages, we may have brought some players back from loans so will pick up their wages again. I dont think we sold any, but must have bought 2 or 3. So what is the net wage balance of ins against outs, we must be considerably in credit, enlighten me politely lol

Three of the five signings we have made have played in the Scottish Premiership. The other two have been signed from a league NL knows well from which we have already signed Kearney and Morrison who have done OK but may improve.

John Tod is far better than League 2 and Rudden was unfortunate to pick up two separate contact injuries last season. He could just as easily have an injury-free season this time round. As AAPS says we have more striking options than you mention and Kane can make an effective contribution despite his recurrent injury issue.

And there`s probably more to come. After Saturday`s friendly NL said we had lost 10 players from last season.

We have lost JCM, Ngwenya and Matty Todd. Not due to money but ambition to play at a higher level.

Our owners are doing everything they can to make us better, but being a Championship Scottish club makes attracting players pretty difficult. I`m not getting colly wobbles about our signings but I`m pleased with what we have signed for this league. The views from the new guys previous clubs fans online are in the majority positive.

I`m more excited about the young players from last year like Bray, Tod brothers and Kearney taking it up a level this year. We invested last year on young talent that has now had considerable games time, so lets see what they do this year. A bit of pressure on them to show continueus improvement.

Lets not forget we have (in my opinion) the best manager in the league, that gets a lot out of his squad.

I`m confident we will be in top three minimum this season.

Obviously, we need more players to compete for promotion. And soon.

Very often, the winners of the Championship get off to a good start and build a lead that is hard for others to break down. My concern is that we leave our signings too late while other contenders—like Partick, Inverness, Ayr and the Rovers— already seem to be nearer their objectives for a settled squad.

I suspect the owners, the manager, the players and the fans share the same belief that this season is crucial. It has to be a turning point for our club. We must achieve sustainability. There can only be one objective—PROMOTION.

Yes, this discussion happens every year, but let`s look at the facts. This is from a review of COWS news archive, please do comment if something is missing.

Summer signings by 8th July 2025:

1. Charlie Gilmour
2. Keith Bray
3. Alfons Amade

- Plus extensions for JCM, Cooper, TOB

- Various young boys

(three players - Kearney, Donaldson, McLeod - were signed on 11th July, the same day that we launched the new home kit)

Summer signings by 8th July 2026:

1. Kian Corbally
2. Oli Shaw
3. Sam Cleall-Harding
4. Luke Robinson
5. Musa Dibaga

- Extensions for Chris Kane, Lucas Fyfe, Davidson

- Various young boys

Looks to me that our we have done more first team squad business at this point than we had last year.

We have been in this league long enough to see what it takes to win the league. We have a history of taking our time with signings, by that time we are out the league cup and off to a slow start in the league. Often stating we aimed too high for our targets. I hope history isn`t repeating again as we have seen this picture too often in recent times.

I think we probably still have a fair bit of business to do, in and out.

I`m happy with the signings we have made but don`t think it`s a title challenging squad just yet. It`s maybe not been the `big push in the summer` we might have hoped for given the extra income last season?

I`d say from how far ahead Partick were last season, and the business they have done, that they are strong favourites. Livi are an unknown to me.

Happy with the business we’ve done to date, Oli Shaw in particular is the kind of player we’ve been shouting for up front so to have him to complement our existing attacking threat is positive.

Don’t know much about the other signings but majority of what I’ve read from previous teams fans have been very positive so it’s all looking good.

I do agree on J Tod though, I don’t think he’s ready and would like to see another central defender in with experience to help SCH - we ofcourse have Abdulai but think we need another one.

I am not personally underwhelmed TBH. As others have said the players you are going to attract to the championship are players who are developing with ambition to play at a higher level, or premiership players in the twilight of their career. The players who have come in fit the former as far as I can see, so its about the management team getting the best out of them. NL and the team have demonstrated that they can do that, evidenced by our top four finish and reaching the scottish cup final. Ollyv Shaw doesnt fit the mould but we need a bit of experoence along side the likes of Lucas Fyfe along with others who I see making their breakthrough this year. Its not only about the best players but more importantly about building the best team. The best players dont necessarily make the best team. I think personally in terms of the squad, we are in a better position this season at this stage than last. Watching the team at Kelty. I was impressed with the players condition and levels of fitness that I didnt think was there last year. Budgets are one thing, working with and developing people, building morale, working together as a team is another. These are the intangibles that cant be determined from a financial spreadsheet.

The squad is a lot stronger than it was a year ago, should be more than enough there to get 3 wins against EK, Dumbarton & Cove which will get us through the league cup group.

Still plenty of time to add to it. One more keeper, Ox would be ideal. Another defender, and 2/3 in midfield. Plenty of strikers, too many, at least a couple need to leave. Young will probably go, then at least 2 of Sutherland, Mcleod & Fyfe out on loan somewhere.

It is a young squad as well, a lot of potential for growth. Livi have a pretty strong looking squad which isn`t surprising, otherwise I don`t see any other team with a stronger squad in terms of numbers or quality at the moment.

Excited would be a better subject in my opinion.

Glad we’ve avoided the usual Scottish championship player merry go round. I think we have on the face of it recruited well with several more to come.

I think we will challenge Livi, Partick look weaker to me and would be surprised to see them run away with the league.

Perfectly happy with the recruitment so far, especially as we have now signed a goalkeeper.

We have a number of young players who should progress from last year - Lennon has already referred to both Bray and Kearney. We lost 4 players we wanted to keep and a number of others that were surplus. We’ll have to see how the new recruits get on, but given that we are still to add to the squad happy with how things are progressing.

Rather we took the approach we have rather than the likes of Raith who seem to be signing players who underperformed at the team the manager previously managed.

We did also have a family bereavement to contend with and our results were certainly impacted. Not saying this was a major factor but did hold us back. Like many sports it’s all about small margins across multiple factors. I am confident the foundations are firmly in place and we can ensure we are either top or a few points off who happens to be at any stage of the season.

I’m the total opposite, I look at the players left from last year and think it’s a solid foundation to build on, and the new recruits look positive and solid additions to continue their development and development of the squad. I think it’s good enough to push Livi & Partick for the top spot, but it’s not yet perfect.

I would rather we went down this route than sign “names” on their way down from the PL or worn out Championship jobbers. You need Scottish league experience, all but 1 of our additions have that, and they need to be ready to work hard and develop.

Couple of spaces still remain, but I genuinely think we have a chance this year 🤞🏻

3/5 of our new signings we`ve paid compensation for as well. I think the signings we`ve made have been really solid this summer so far, especially when you look at the other teams in the league (maybe apart from Thistle who have made 2-3 good additions).

Musa is a big goalie and I think will be a better option than Terrell, I suspect Lennon will still want someone else in to avoid what happened in the playoffs. Maybe if Ox becomes available. Impressed from what I`ve seen out of Corbally, a very positive midfielder with a fair bit of experience already for his age.

Oli Shaw makes sense up front, an experienced striker and someone with an eye for goal who can hopefully feed off the service when we`re missing Kane. Robinson can cover LCB or LWB, so I assume he`s coming in to replace Ngwenya. Cleall-Harding is a bit of a wild card and may take some time to adjust but he`s a big unit and seems steady on the ball for his age.

Plenty to be positive about and we`re certainly in a much better position than this time last season

Geordiepar makes a good point about the potential of younger players improving. Very few posters factor this in when anticipating how the squad will perform in the coming season. It seems to be assumed that they`ll stagnate at best and we need to look to new players for overall improvement. He mentions Bray and Kearney but in a relatively young squad there is also potential for improvement in the likes of the Tods, Fraser, Amade, Macleod, Terrell, Davidson and Fyfe.

Nah I agree with you sjapar I don’t know what Neil’s doing in the country he should be over in America signing up mbappe and Haaland

Too many of our fans just think that we’re a better look than we are at least the new owners are putting in the money so it looks like we’re getting to pay higher wages but it still only looks like enough to cover championship players as we’re still losing our players to lower end of the prem but again we’ve spent more time in league 1 than the prem in recent history it’s a hard sell to anyone a project only works when it works anything else and it’s a failure we’re building a team to challenge for the title not win it by 50 points it’s just not possible

Everyone looks at proven players and think we that’s who we should be going after well they all had to start somewhere still think people on here if told we could sign the next world superstar would be saying no he’s not played first team football

I know we lost players but I look at last season and say keeper errors killed us looks like we’ve went and got someone to try and sort that and looks like we are replacing the players we have lost so I would say we’re on the right track

On the start of last season who would have thought;

1. We would have reached the SC final and a 17 year old would come on and hit the bar
2. A Tod would be training with the national team
3. We would have several players representing their country at U21 and national level
4. KN would establish himself in tge 1st team
5. Several players would have standout performances for the club.

You have to balance negatives with positives. I think JCM and KN have performed professionally but it was always likely they would move on. The contracts were a throwback to the clubs position and fight for survival the season before. The positive for me is that we have more potential this season balancing opportunity for younger players to get first team experience against a push for promotion. From the signings so far, I think we have done that and I think its going to be an exciting season ahead. The younger players are a year older with regular championship experience so should improve. I dont see J Tod as a bombscare as has been suggested. That boy will go on to represent Scotland at some level in a couple of years time if we get promoted as will players like Robbie Fraser in my view.

I fancy Kearney will be one of those to improve and come onto a game, looked far better towards the end of last season.

The good thing is the singing of shaw and the return of rudden means we won’t be so reliant on Andy tod having the season he had last season, we’ll be able to alternate and freshen it up when his form dips.

It’s really hard to tell where we are, I think we’re looking like a top 5 team just now for sure, I just don’t know if we’re a top 2 team and prob need that bit more to be near livi and Partick.

We need another centre back for sure, agree on John tod, fast tracked into the team and had a good start but form dropped off and struggled to get on the park after that. For me we still need someone with that quality in the wide areas, Morrison was okay but too lightweight in games against the better team.

The signings appear to be solid enough and we need another 4 or 5 in, I’d say.
In an ideal world, the new signings would be in prior to pre-season, but it’s the way it is now with agents pulling the strings.

"John tod, fast tracked into the team and had a good start but form dropped off and struggled to get on the park after that"

he was out injured for 3 months but still managed to start over half the games once fit at the end of the season, if we need another centre half its with Benedictus "retiring" and needing an extra option.

still 2 months of the transfer window to go, 3 if you include the added domestic loan window so the idea that the squad would be close to completion is wishful thinking but nearly every club is in the same position. plenty of work is still to be done, hopefully some of it is done before the league starts but dont be surprised if it isnt.

Jon Tod had a serious injury that he tried to play through and, like many players, has taken time to get back up to speed. With a full pre season behind him, I have every confidence in the lad and now he has experience of the toughness of the Championship, then he will stand on his own two feet this season.

Yer man Berkey is just a very, very strange character. I actually feel really sorry for him as a person. Just seems such a miserablist. If The Pars are on a winning streak and playing well he`s nowhere to be seen. The moment we get beat he`s all over it, gleefully picking over our shortcomings, and indulging himself in an online bullying campaign against whichever one of our young players he has decided to pick on next. There is also a very strange wee handful of his fanboys ready to rush to back him up and defend him. I`m pretty sure they are actually him, logging in with a different account.

The whole thing is rather sad

1 pretty tame comment and the usual crew has a meltdown. Wrecks what was looking like a pretty interesting conversation.

Makes you lot seem mental.

“They” seem irked by any criticism and will play devils advocate to counter it even if it contradicts something they’ve posted before.

Totally agree. It`s like being back at school. Some people on here just can`t help themselves when it comes to wrecking threads with petty point scoring and playground vendettas.

If you don`t like a certain poster`s views, it`s perfectly possible to just scroll past. I get that everyone can post on whatever they want, but other posters also have the right to discuss topics they enjoy without them being ruined by sheer pettiness.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Absolutely correct IMO. It’s not the difference of opinions (that’s what makes a thread interesting) it’s the cheap digs and then the usual parrots getting their wee neb in.

I’m hoping by calling it out that it slowly dies off but I’m not certain it will.

I called him out for it last year and got shot down by the majority, including the likes of wee eck……..surprise surprise they are here slagging him off now 🙄
