 Potential last signing
Topic Originator: 13en

Lennon saying potentially 1 more signing which would be a striker. Don’t know what others think but I don’t think we need another we need someone to create for them. Kane and Shaw have both proven they can score goals at this level. Rudden will always work hard and Adam’s looks like he’s the energy to run about when he’s brought on

No doubt GJS93 will explain why we can’t sign that type of player without signing three or four more…

Strange.

I`ve always found GJS93 to be a factual well informed poster. Usually bang on the the money.

No idea why someone would have a pop at them.

Bizarre.

Creating chances has been the least of our problems this season.
It’s finishing them.
Shaw is just not good enough right now.
Morrison is a headless chicken who has so few assists nevermind goals,
Rudden can’t score to save himself.
All have an abundance of effort but no end product.

The stats sum up the problem for me. We`ve had 23 shots in our first three league games but scored just once, giving us a conversion rate of only 4.3%.

It`s not as if we`re creating absolutely nothing. 23 attempts isn`t brilliant, but it`s certainly enough to be scoring more than one goal. Raith have had 39 shots and scored 5, while Livingston and Partick have 31 and scored 4.

We`re averaging just 0.33 goals a game and have failed to score in two of the three league matches. That`s the issue for me is converting chances. We`re getting into positions and creating opportunities, but the finishing and end product simply isn`t good enough so far.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

We are averaging the 2nd most shots on target in the league, albeit a small sample. That suggests it’s a striker issue as opposed to a creative one.

Shots On Target Averages - after 3 games.

Partick ~ 6
Dunfermline ~ 4.67
Inverness ~ 4.67
Raith ~ 4.33
Livingston ~ 4
Arbroath ~ 3.67
Stenhousemuir ~ 3.33
Queens Park ~ 2.33
Ayr ~ 2
Morton ~ 1.67

Instead of signing misfiring strikers why don’t we invest a decent striker coach. Must be a few around that knew how to finish … John Robertson , Steve Crawford , Craig Brewster spring to mind.

Kdy par stats could be misleading tho anyone that has watched our games can tell that we’re not creating enough good chances anyone could hit a shot from the half way line and if it goes on target it’s a shot on target XG and XSoT are the 2 stats you’d need to look at to see the type of chances were actually creating

I’d agree that three games is too small a sample to draw big conclusions about where we’ll finish, but I don’t think that means we should ignore what the data is telling us.

What it doesn’t support is the argument that we simply aren’t creating enough. We’ve had 23 shots across the three league games and scored once. That points much more towards a finishing problem than an inability to create chances.

It’s early days and things can obviously change, but if the argument is that we aren’t creating enough opportunities, I’m not sure the numbers back that up. We’re getting chances, we’re just not putting enough of them away.

That’s a different problem, and one Lennon clearly needs to find a solution to before we find ourselves separate from the pack.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

The way we set up means we’re not really able to have a poacher who just hangs around the box waiting and doesn’t really get too involved in the rest of the game. We’re currently trying to play with 2 of them on the pitch which isn’t working.

We need a 6 ft plus battering ram! As Lenny has said we’re just too nice.

Arsenal appear to be willing to listening to offers for Gyokeres, but Berkey would probably describe him as limited :D

Its alwaus going to be a balance between financial.investment in players to win promotion and developing talent. At tgat includes getting the right management structure in place. Last year was the first full season under the new owners and NL and his team. To some extent we have been the victim of our success with 3 players moving on, whom realistically we can say NL and his team developed. There is going to be a backward step to take a bit of a leap forward so, personally I`m a long way frpm panicking yet. I just think the forward line needs to work better up front.

which is exactly my point.

If a £60m Premiership winning striker, who`s attracting interest from Barcelona, is `limited` then what chance do we have a signing a 6ft+ striker who isn`t `limited`.

We have some crazy expectations around what players even EXIST let alone players that would consider signing for us.

I wonder if another MLS player such as Stas Korzeniowski would be an option.
He`s 23, not 18. He`s scored 20 goals in 32 MLS NEXT Pro appearances across 2025-26, including eight in seven this year, yet has accumulated only 136 MLS minutes. At that age he needs first-team football.

Compare that with Falkirk`s Fodrey deal. Fodrey is 22 and had only three goals and two assists across 58 Austin first-team appearances; Austin nevertheless concluded that a season in Scotland was appropriate for his development

Innes Cameron looked murder against us while on loan at Raith last season but he seemed to do well against others. He would be a physical option.
