Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay is to have a minor heart procedure after the discovery of "a mild benign arrhythmia", Napoli have announced.
The 29-year-old was subsituted after 56 minutes of Sunday`s 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como and will have corrective treatment "in the coming days".
Napoli expect him to return to playing after the international break in early October and McTominay himself posted on Instagram: "See you soon Napoli. I won`t take long."
However, it means he is likely to miss Sebastien Pocognoli`s first four games as Scotland head coach, against Slovenia (home and away), North Macedonia and Switzerland in the Nations League.
According to the NHS,, external an arrhythmia is when the heart beats too quickly or too slowly, or the heartbeat is not steady.
Napoli say McTominay will undergo cardiac arrhythmia ablation - which the British Heart Foundation explains, external is when heat or cold energy is used to create tiny scars in the heart to block faulty signals and restore a typical heartbeat.

So anyway good luck scott, you will be back soon.

That`s what Tony Blair had I think.
It must be quite hard to initially diagnose in healthy people....his heart rate would be below 60 I suspect anyway.
Strange as mine is below 60 too, but they have never suggested I need anything done.

It will be causing an irregular heartbeat and he will be breathing heavily when he shouldn’t. Often confused with being unfit or suffering from a virus.
He is likely to have had a procedure called cardio version, which is basically a huge electric shock to get the heartbeat back in synch. This is an external procedure.
He will then have had an ablation to prevent this condition from returning. It’s 95% effective. They send a laser in through your groin and up to your heart where they use heat to “ringfence” the faulty area which is causing rogue electrical signals.

Yes the problem is irregular heart beat, but if slow it`s not too bad, if its really fast and irregular it`s bad, but can usually be controlled by medication.

He’s only completed one game since the WC.
I wonder how long this has been affecting him? He was pretty poor in the WC, although he was far from being alone.

Napoli have said Scott McTominay`s heart surgery "was a complete success" and expect the Scotland midfielder to resume training this month.
The 29-year-old`s ablation procedure - a minimally invasive operation to correct irregular heart rhythms - took place at Spire Manchester Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Glad that’s cleared things up for me!
My grandson who works in Manchester texted me yesterday to say he had seen him shopping there yesterday lunchtime. I said it must be his doppelgänger as he was reported to be having surgery on Monday.
By the way, he was shopping for a Patek Philippe watch.
Some retail therapy no doubt!

Sounds like the exact same operation my son had a year ago, and he recovered very quickly - it sounds scary, but is actually very simple.
