Another 90 minutes of almost complete silence at East End today.
I’m not having a go at anyone in particular because I’m as guilty as the next person, but the atmosphere just seems to have completely disappeared. Everything feels a bit flat and I’m not really sure why, especially when we’ve actually got a team on the park that’s giving us plenty to be excited about.
So, genuine question, what can we as supporters, or the club, actually do to bring a vibrant atmosphere back to East End?

The answer is simpler than you imagine.
We’re playing a team we’re expected to beat and went 2-0 up after half an hour and in full control of the game.
It’s often the case the atmosphere is better when the game is in the balance and there are late barrages on goal but today was not going to be one of them.
The lack of young fans, and the drum for the second home game in a row didn’t help either.
It might annoy people but a bit of noise and singing must get through to the players.

Is this the same young team who broke and bent the seats in the North West? If that’s what is attractive to these people at the big games, then I’d prefer they stayed away.
If they can’t support the team every week, then don’t bother turning up with the sole purpose of causing bother at the “big” games. Genuine supporters are there week in, week out and not just when it suits them.

It`s a bit bizarre grown men falling over themselves to claim they are `better fans` than the 14 year olds in the NW.
The OP stated the atmosphere has gone flat this season. It is pretty clear that is because we no longer have the 100 or so dafties that jumped about creating that atmosphere.
Whether that`s because we now have found a way to charge them properly, a result of what was becoming a bit heavy handed stewarding or simply because, as so many people on this thread are keen to point out, they aren`t `real fans` and only come along for the big games. Regardless, their absence is the reason the atmosphere has declined.
I mean, fair play to us all for `cheering the goals and clapping the team off at half time` 😳 Unfortunately, that doesn`t really go very far in creating much of an overall atmosphere.
Some clubs seem to be good at encouraging the younger fans to build the noisy support that creates a better atmosphere. Since Jason stopped being the figurehead of SNW, we seem to be doing the opposite.
Even on this thread it`s clear a few `real fans` would rather the youngsters stayed away. Which I find quite sad.

The atmosphere has been a little flat at a few games this season. Yesterdays game was lacking to. As good as the football was in the first half it wasn’t very competitive. QP didn’t bring much to game and would have been happy to go in at halftime nil nil. Obviously that didn’t happen and I’m sure all Pars fans were expressing their appreciation for some of the great play and our two goals. Atmosphere is created through what happens on the pitch and both teams add to it. Tackles flying in, shots on goal, officials making mistakes, great passes and saves. But it needs to from both sides. QP offered very little and I think I heard their supporters signing once. Hopefully we can get a few more victories and that will bring some more of the fans back that add to the atmosphere.

What other clubs are you referring to? Motherwell, Partick, Hibs? All of which have their “ultras” at games week in, week out. It’s all about supporting your team, and the Section North West only seem interested in the bigger games. If all they’re interested in is damaging the stadium and causing trouble, then do we really want that at EEP?

To answer your loaded question, I`d have to accept your opinion that all they are interested in is damaging the stadium and causing trouble.
I don`t accept that. Every group has @rseholes and I do accept that a minority of them take it too far.
But loads of the young lads are proper Pars fans and just want to create an atmosphere and have a day out with their pals.
Your characterisation of the whole group as trouble makers is problematic and clouding your judgement on the situation.

“Just want to create an atmosphere” with flares which they’ve been told continually are not allowed? How do you engage with some younger fans if they’re just going to ignore the official guidelines? The majority may agree but if the minority don’t then we find ourselves in situations like yesterday.

Been found out. Only attend big games and continually break the rules. Done the club for thousands of pounds in fraudulent ticket purchases and damage to seats. Bring in smoke bombs and flash bangs at every derby.
Wish the club would do more to get them at every game and cause more unwanted costs!

When you have a camera panning around the stadium for game footage for their social media channels it’s inevitable that fans doing something you’d not want to encourage or see will happen. Like fans sticking their middle fingers up at away fans, hearing certain chants and the flares. You make it sound as if the club focussed on the flares for social media likes which you already know is not true.

So we have "ultras" that don`t want to watch the team every week or contribute towards it financially in order to do so?
For a club our size that`s pretty surprising. It`s a shame to see it fall apart like this, having engaged young supporters is good for atmosphere and for the future of the club`s supporter base

The young boys generally bring more of an atmosphere. They also generally misbehave more - no being funny but kind of par for the course with young boys.
Without them it’s quieter, with them there’s more trouble. We are trying to strike a balance. I’m less worried about yesterday but I’d much prefer them there for big games. It makes the overall experience more enjoyable.

They’re drawn to the noise and all that. I would be too so I don’t see a problem with it.
If I scored I’d rather run to the corner with everyone going mental rather at ground level rather than an empty corner cos the main stand is 4m up and it’s old men standing clapping.

That`s not fair or true. The applause from the Norrie or South will be massive. Because there are many true fans in those stands who enjoy their team scoring just as much as the more excitable fans in the North West. Passion is not just about shouting loud.

I’d say it’s a focus point and not just for Dunfermline but the opposition as well.
NW has always been so going back to the terracing days and let’s face it, it’s where most of the singing comes from.

This isn`t just a Dunfermline issue. Its all over the country, trouble caused by mid to late teens most weeks at games.
When they are there, it undoubtedly adds to the atmosphere. To be fair, is any Pars fan leaving the house yesterday absolutely buzzing like they would be a Falkirk game, for Queens at home who we should and did run over the top of?
For what it`s worth, absolutely not condoning the idiots within that section of the support at Dunfermline or other clubs but it`s easier to get up for a bigger game.

Verily, a North-West stand that be full unto the rafters and roaring like the very bowels of the earth is a different kettle of fish entirely from the hot wind that doth bloweth forth from the Main Stand.
Think not that I question the passion of any soul that doth bleed for this noble club; nay, their devotion is not mine to dispute.
I speak only thus: when the North-West be filled to bursting, and its multitude doth thunder forth as one mighty host, the players upon the field shall surely hear it. Such a roar doth seize the blood, stir the heart, and command the attention of those who wage battle upon the pitch.
Let the Main Stand bloweth its hot air as it may; give me a North-West that is full, furious, and ****** bouncing — for therein lieth the sound that shall reach the players.

Apart from the fans who have asthma. Guess they should just move from their usual seats when the disallowed flares are thrown. The smoke and the smell is all around the ground when they’re set off. You’ve obviously never seen the results of a flare in someone’s eyes and face either. It’s utterly devastating (and it HAS happened at the club (and at Starks too by Rovers fans).
The flares and smoke bombs provide zero atmosphere. All it does is show the fans, who bring them in, to be folk who don’t give a damn about the match or the club.

The thing is the SNW branded t-shirts, their songs, banter, the drum and the banners are all great, and have been for a long time now. The players instinctively run to that section because of the enthusiasm and noise. I’ve typed a description of the atmosphere there many a time.
If we could just stop the flares and the seat destruction (I’d imagine that’s usually just after a loss [not that that’s an excuse]) and an organised display in conjunction with the club it could be better for everyone who sits there?
And I’m with twin par. The main stand is just like every other stand. We might be a wee bit farther from the pitch but we are just as noisy, with sweary words and singing emanating from most sections.

Stood for many years on the half way line jousting with the opposition supporters, even causing havoc when they tried to change ends at half time.
Unfortunately the club then erected the cage to try and restore some peace, thus reducing some of the atmosphere.
We were only moved when the OF came to visit due to being heavily outnumbered.
One week we would sing the "sash" the next time we would sing " we`re off to Dublin in the green " we really couldn`t care less.
Now after supporting the Pars for 66yrs I am in the Norrie, watching the "Ultras" trying to create some atmosphere, they`ve got it easy due to segregation, I`ve just got great memories!🤔🏁🏁🏁

I`ve been to the Ayr, Raith and Queens Park game. Atmosphere non-existent for Ayr and QP, the Ayr game was a tight, tense affair the type of game that should create a bit of an atmosphere.
I think it`s the beginning of the end for these groups, if they can`t police themselves, then clubs will have to start clamping down as they can`t afford the punishments or compo to other clubs. Motherwell put out a statement before their last Euro game, telling the fans to pack it in, they had already cost them 6 figures in fines and compensation to repair damage. The "Bois" ignored it.

There is always the nuclear option. Persuade the owners to buy 5,000 vuvuzelas and distribute to fans at the next home game.

Anyone got that Vuvuzela from the Raith away game years ago. Was very memorable that afternoon for the Vuvuzela. Couldn’t tell what the result was.

The ironic thing is… three pages in and very, very, very little, if anything at all, has actually been said about my original post!

It’s possible to create an atmosphere without setting off pyro, damaging your own stadium at your club’s expense, or throwing things at a player who celebrates in front of you after you’ve constantly been calling him a paedo.
We can’t fall into the trap of accepting antisocial behaviour just because it’s accompanied by a few songs and a drum. You can create a great atmosphere without behaving like a wee ned.
And the fact they only seem to turn up for the big games and cause bother makes me question whether they even support the Pars.

To be fair it`s not cheap for young supporters to attend if they have to pay full price. What bugs me prior to the crackdown was the players celebrating in front of the North West as if these were the only real fans in the stadium.
They’re drawn to the noise and all that. I would be too so I don’t see a problem with it.
If I scored I’d rather run to the corner with everyone going mental rather at ground level rather than an empty corner cos the main stand is 4m up and it’s old men standing clapping.
At what age should you transition from the NW to the main stand, where you’ll be welcomed with a tartan rug and a packet of Werther’s Originals?
NW 12 to 21
NM 21 to 67
Main stand 67 until R.I.P
Just a rough outline. Feel free to sit where you want.

Safe terracing is the answer at least in the SNW area.
No seats so no damage (not that I’ve seen much)
They stand anyway.

Why don’t you suggest something? You’re the one who started the whole conversation about the young ones being allegedly chased away. Yet you’ve offered nothing in response to your own statement, except to have a pop at posters and their thoughts on a particular section of the stadium which you referred to.

Some clubs have chants that go on for many minutes - I like to hear them. Have we got any like that - the ones that have a steady beat and go on and on - they make for a party atmosphere.
Somebody posted that other sections of EEP besides the NW sing and chant.
What are the most popular ones these days - and are there no real good new ones?
What does a chant or song need to make fans sing it?
I`ve been googling - and for oldies who remember the song, `I love to go a-wandering to see the Pars at play...` the suggestion is that it came about from folk having a sing-song on a supporters` bus, and was an adaptation of `The Happy Wanderer` that came about possibly during our cup run in 1961.
You can see how that would work, with an existing culture of singing on supporters`buses.
So come on you singers on our supporters buses - lets have some new yins!

I don`t damage our own stadium and run the risk of fines by throwing things onto the pitch at players or officials.
The club gave youngsters discounted season tickets, and how was that repaid? By continuing to set off pyro and throw items onto the pitch.
If they continue to cause problems, why should the club bend over backwards for them? For what it`s worth, there are plenty of young fans in the stands who don`t act like wee fuds.

My thoughts on the matter.
I am an oldie.
I missed them at the weekend.
To improve the situation, safe standing is the option. If Bayern can do it so can we.
What I have is a question about those seats. Are they not purchased as season tickets? If so why would they not turn up?
If not season tickets then there might be a difference between what the lads can pay and what the club are quoting?
Are the club engaging with those fans as the well behaved lads are always welcome. The not so well behaved lads should have been identified by now. Not all wear masks.
A reduced price for that section on the account of face masks cannot be worn. If worn, immediate ejection and season ticket ripped up.
Just some suggestions without much thought.

I would be very happy for the NW to be there every game but they need to pay to get in just like everyone else. Everybody is paying to their hard earned to attend. I get these kids may not have much income. M TT main point is that everyone who turns up at EEP is a true supporter and there isn`t any hierarchy.

I agree Safe standing is the way to go, with a reduced ticket price. Not sure how much it would cost to convert the current arrangement but I do think it would encourage people back and may even bring more people in.

Im sure there was a seperate post years ago about safe standing , the club said the current terracing is not fit for implamentation of safe standing seating , railing, and would cost a relative fortune .

Offt asthma, lung conditions, liver failure and heart problems…move them all away to a separate part of the ground…..get a grip ffs! It’s 90 minutes at a football game and not life threatening! God almighty….anyone remember the cage back in the day?
I’m sure some fans willl have an inhaler?? Wet wipes at the best from you absolute bellends!
You’re an absolute idiot and you clearly don’t give a crap about anyone. There’s no point conversing with you on any topic.
Well that’s not very nice Buffy…and I demand you are called to the .net court for a yellow upon investigation. BUT it’s a wee flair/smoke bomb and tbh no harm will really be done….nobody has been affected in 20 years so I’m sure all the soft lefts will be ok and breath😆
Calling me an idiot and putting me down like that is not on..I’m feeling a wee bit upset with that now…yellow card Buffy!!!

Was it someone called Jason who was heavily involved/spokesperson for SNW ?
If he can’t be persuaded to return then someone else needs to take up the reigns and step forward and meet with club liaison officer and discuss ways to improve the atmosphere in SNW initially and that will help to create a better atmosphere in the whole ground generally. It’s pretty sad for a club our size to have an atmosphere like a morgue at most games.
Thing is it’s basically the same at away games too.
Pars had a great support ( still do ) particularly during the Leishman/Paton era. We were noisy home and away and had a good repertoire of songs/chants.
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

I`d go further. They should make Jason the liaison officer. He already has some bear related match day duties. They need someone who understands the young lads and can help harness them a bit and encourage the SNW without the drama.
Just ignoring the nonsense from Buffy and Sacktheref, as there is no positive input at all. They`ll be on Fife Jammers just now demanding all young people lose their bus passes because of the behavior of a few. 😏
As for the guy who keeps talking about heirarchy? You just sound like your nose is out of joint cause the players go over to the NW to celebrate? Players are attracted to the noise and atmosphere. Not sweetie paper rustling.

Well as we already have a liaison officer in place that’s unlikely. But someone needs to reach out and come up with ideas to get the singing section/SNW vibrant again..

Jasons as bad as SNW - only turns up for the big games 😂 pretty sure he was in the Sammy outfit at the Ayr game 🤔
He done well at engaging the young team, but also during his time “in charge” seen a spate of incidents that happened at every big match. Has also fundraised for the TIFOs at Hampden.

So Hibs have just banned thier ultras for 1 game , with 3 games suspended unless they cause further bother, meanwhile the Pars should pander to the young ultras by giving them cheaper tickets than those others in the same stand , also spend millions to give them safe standing , turn a blind eye to pyro and other stuff that the club will get fined for ?

In terms of safe standing, I’ve suggested before that it is self financed (or partly) by the fans who want it to happen.
Many clubs are moving towards it even St Johnstone.
As for fans being boisterous, this has always been the case going back 50 years or more and you will never fully eradicate it but you can minimise it.

I know it would take legislation changes but pyro etc is going to be used in stadiums. It definitely can bring something to the atmosphere, I think safe standing and a Pyro area would be the best steps forward.

There is no appetite for pyro at venues from the Scottish government, police, the football authorities and clubs..... nor the vast majority of fans.

I totally agree. It’s a result of everyone having a mobile phone these days with cameras.
Legislation should be passed that it’s illegal to enter a ground with masks of any kind on and the same goes for protesters too.
