..... now has over 1 million signatures.

Are the Remainers wasting their time, or could the unthinkable become reality?

Eta. Here it is for anyone interested.

Over a million signatures? Does that mean the forty-odd million voters who haven't signed it are quite happy with Brexit going ahead, GGR?

Aye, guid wan, eck. :-)

I don't know how long the petition's been up and running, but a million signatures is quite impressive all the same and I daresay this total will swell considerably as the petition is circulated.

None of us know how life after Brexit will turn out, anymore than how an independent Scotland would fare. I think it's probably fair to say that there will be quite a bit of transitional pain before things settle down.

As a European, I would have preferred us to stay in the EU, although I readily concede that this organisation has become far too large and bureaucratic and is riddled with corruption. I think it would have been better for us to have stayed and fought to fix these problems from inside the EU, but we are where we are.

Personally, I don't think anything will come of the petition. More than likely, we'll discover that some of the signatures are bogus or have come from people who are ineligible to vote. My main beef with Brexit is that David Cameron should never have promised or called a referendum. Our MPs are elected to serve their citizen's best interests and let's face it, the average voter doesn't have enough knowledge about the EU to make an informed choice as to whether we would be better off in or out. Voters were then duped by a few politicians with their own agenda and the 500+ Remain MPs failed to convince enough voters with their Project Fear argument.

No matter which side of the coin you voted for, you'd have to agree that our MPs are currently presiding over an utter shambles and voters on both sides are completely disillusioned and hacked off at their inability to reach an agreement among themselves. This petition is probably the fruit of the frustration many of us feel at this moment.

It's meaningless. If there was a petition saying that we should leave the EU as per the referendum result then it would also quickly rack up a high number of signatures.
I voted to remain and I worry about the immediate future if we leave, especially without a deal, however we had a vote and the majority voted to leave. If democracy means anything to us we have to respect that and one way or another we now need to leave the EU.

A laughable and meaningless exercise.

Still 15 million short of the number of individuals (we all know how easy it is to sign a petition more than once) who voted to leave the EU.

What does it actually tell us anyway, other than 2.3 million people feel the very same as they did 3 years ago. By my maths too there are still at least 14 million remainers who haven't even bothered to sign.

Regardless, we all know Brexit isn't really going to happen. May has turned us into an International laughing stock and she must go immediately.

The whole exercise was just the Tory party indulging itself at the expense of the UK.

"The Conservative Party is finished. Jeremy Corbyn can't believe his luck."

He's finished too. Despite all their internal troubles there is still isn't a snowballs chance in hell Labour will be elected with him as leader.

They're about to alienate the bulk of their core vote in the North of England if, as I suspect, Brexit doesn't go ahead.

Petition is over 3 million now - I know that's still dwarfed by the 17 million who voted Leave, but at what point does it become significant?

I said right at the start we wouldn't leave and was laughed at...it could still happen.
Either way our parasitic politicians will make a fortune.

It doesn't become significant at all.

It's still 13 million people who voted remain and not signed it. Plus already there are leavers on the wind up signing it ten at a time because it's that easy to do.

Leavers like Julia Hartley-Brewer who says it's easy because you can use the same email address multiple times. She's spent a while registering votes this afternoon unaware that only one vote counts per email address. Her stupidity knows no bounds.

You could buy a domain name for a couple of dollars and you then have unlimited email addresses

It also weeds out dodgy signatures and multiple registrations from the same ip address. A lot of time wasted this afternoon for some folks me thinks 😂

"Only if you happen to have 10 email addresses."

Not exactly difficult to set up. Anyway, doesn't have to be ten. Can be any number. The point still stands that the petition is utterly irrelevant.

As for Julia, have a listen to her show in the morning. She's more often bang on the money than not. And she's certainly right about Brexit.

So if two students try to vote from uni then they can't as they'll be using the same external IP?

Not necessarily. From what I've read this afternoon it's not as simple as one vote per ip address. It's designed to recognise ip addresses that normally have heavy traffic and ones that don't. If your sending multiples from your phone or home then it'll likely recognise it's dodgy.

What sort of sad git would set up 10 email addresses just to vote?

The petition means nothing. What does mean something is the sovereign power of the UK parliament and the parliament is giving a resounding no to a no deal brexit.

Don’t believe that is true. May’s problem is that the bad deal she is pushing is uniting both sides of the debate and she can’t see it.

If Parliament gives in to the remain side . I reckon the 18 million folk who voted leave will find a home in Nigel Farage's party .
I for one could never vote for either of those 2 "main" parties .

If Parliament did bottle it and just revoke A50, cancel brexit then I'd be delighted but a lot of folk wouldn't be. 2nd referendum this nonsense or there will be utter anarchy (Got my popcorn at the ready either way)
