 Dominic Raab

It's not that long ago that the PM pleaded with the British public not to travel abroad but to arrange a UK holiday and help our ailing tourist tourist industry - a perfectly reasonable, if surprising request, from a man not well known for being reasonable or logical in his approach.

So what about his Foreign Secretary? Hardly setting a good example by swanning off to Crete for a beach holiday. Practise what you preach, eh? I wonder how many other ministers stuck to fingers up to BJ, safe in the knowledge that the request was only for the plebs.......

From Aunty :-

Dominic Raab “refused to be contacted” about some government business while he was on holiday and handed over decisions to a junior minister in the days leading up to the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, the Guardian has been told.

The foreign secretary is facing mounting calls to quit, even from within his own party, after it was revealed he delegated a crucial call with his Afghan counterpart. Labour said it was a “catastrophic failure of judgment”.

A Whitehall source confirmed to the Guardian that a report in the Daily Mail was correct. The Mail said that while Raab was on holiday in Crete last week, Foreign Office officials advised him to speak by phone to his Afghan counterpart, Hanif Atmar, to request assistance on the removal of translators who had worked with the British military.

However, the officials were told Raab was not available and that a junior minister, Zac Goldsmith, a Tory peer, should make the call instead. Because Lord Goldsmith was not Atmar’s direct equivalent, there was a delay of a day in the call happening.

When asked on Thursday if he would resign, Raab simply said: “No.”

Raab on a holiday allegedly costing £40K, obviously not a B&B!

Meanwhile UK citizens bracing themselves for the £20 cut in Universal Credit. 😡

Every nation gets the political leaders it elects, which inevitably leads me to conclude that Scotland should be an independent country.

What's that, spending more than a third of his salary on a holiday? That sounds legit.

This would be difficult to implement, but there really should be a cap on how much wealth an MP has. They're supposed to be representing the average Joe. How can they do that with millions in the bank?

Another fine example today of a man totally out of his depth but remaining in a job .. refusing to answer pertinent questions and getting away with it ? What is the actual purpose of an MP`s Grilling when there is no further action ?

Just when you think that Raab is bad along comes Gavin Williamson!

Gove spaced out at the weekend!

Javid nowhere to be seen as 200+ die yesterday!

Johnson on holiday but working flat out!

Sunak wondering whether his swimming pool will get planning permission as his wife's businesses collapse with over half a million in tax due, despite 1.3 million Covid grants!

Just scraping the surface, missed Jenrick, Reece Mogg etc!

Controversy just follows this guy around.

`Senior civil servants at the Ministry of Justice were offered “respite or a route out” of the department when Dominic Raab was reappointed last month, amid concerns that some were still traumatised by his behaviour during a previous stint there, the Guardian has revealed.`

With so many changes in Ministers in the last wee while it must be very difficult for civil servants who don`t know how long their boss will remain in post and who will be their next one.

Former Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has said Dominic Raab had a "brusque" demeanour but his behaviour fell short of bullying in her interactions with him.

Speaking on TalkTV earlier, Dorries said Raab lacked "HR skills" because of his training as a lawyer, and because he is a "completely ambitious, dedicated and focused individual".

She added: "He`s not the kind of bloke that you’d invite round for dinner parties. You’re not going to make friends with him at work."

But she said the government would be worse off without him.

She said the civil servants she had worked with "were absolutely fantastic" but not all departments had such good staff.
