Ash Regan, a minister in Scottish govt, has quit her post over the Gender recognition self Identification bill.
Surely not the last over a proposal I presume is opposed by the majority of women.
Anyway good for her standing up for her principles, which will cost cost her a considerable hit financially and also being ostracised for her pains..
Sturgeon’s acceptance letter is about as icy and ungracious as you would expect from yon control freak.

You presume wrong. Polls show huge support among both women and men for the GRA.

There are literally dozens of polls that have been done.

You can search for them all yourself.

Here`s the first one on a Google search.

I support it.

The GRA is allowing trans people to get married, and die, with respect, and dignity. It also allows Article 8 of the ECHR re privacy.

I must say I`d never heard of this lady until today. I`ve always thought that matters like this should be subject to a free vote rather than debated along party lines. I think this is the Tory view so, for once, I agree with them.

Why would women in particular vote against it? It doesn`t effect women anymore than anyone else.

Trans women already have the right to use women`s toilets and changing rooms under equalities act. And have been doing so. The legislation just removes the need to get a medical diagnosis of dysmorphia.
The specialist doctors and Trans people have all been asking for this.
The people against the GRA actually want to remove rights trans people already have.
It was introduced in Ireland 5 years ago and none of the issues raised by those against it have happened.

Is this the issue that has led to the fuss with J K Rowling?

I haven`t really been following it, but is there a fear that men with evil intent will use "self-identification" to gain access to women only areas to cause trouble?

This seems to be one of those policy areas where the subject is the most important thing in the world to a very few people, and of minimal interest to everyone else, yet somehow becomes an enormous battlefield. (And one where misunderstandings abound).

It is unusual for elected SNP members to rebel. It will be interesting to see how NS reacts.

Does it have any implications for amateur sport?

Finance Sec Kate Forbes is on maternity leave, but as a devout “Wee Free” this issue would have been a tricky one for her.
SNP are renowned for tight discipline so this mini revolt is a jolt for the leadership.
Anyway good to see those defying their leaders and voting in accordance with their conscience, including the two Tory members who supported the bill. More free thinkers the better.

Not if their "free thinking" is based on religious beliefs. Then it`s not really free thinking.

Effects less than 1% of the population apparently. Wonder why it wasn't in the nuSNP manafesto?

Any update on the gold standard s30 Indy vote ?

Less than a year away and everyone is buzzing (not)

Tell me you have no clue about the Gender Recognition Act without telling me you have no clue about the Gender Recognition Act...

The right you are referring to has been in place for a number of years.

Can tell it`s been a while since you`ve been in a leisure centre. They also moved to unisex changing "villages" some time ago.
