The public have a pretty low opinion of politicians in general but some of the worst specimens are on show at the Tory party conference. I`ve just watched a clip of a Sky interview with the net zero secretary, Claire Coutinho, where she was challenged about a speech she made in which she claimed Labour favoured taxing meat. When it was pointed out to her that they had no such policy her defence was that it was the sort of proposal that would be in keeping with some of their other `green` policies. Now the Farming Minister, Mark Spencer, has defended her, saying it was the sort of thing they `might do` because `lefties love regulation`!

Aye and just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water along comes Cruella :-
During her speech, Home Secretary Suella Braverman said she was surprised the Human Rights Act - which sets minimum standards of how everyone should be treated by public bodies - was not called the "Criminal Rights Act".
The Human Rights Act was passed by a Labour government back in 1998, and it includes basic rights to a fair trial, life and freedom from ill treatment - and protections against discrimination or unfair interference in private and family life, among others.

Another couple of gems from the Tory conference :-
1) Alex Chalk, the justice secretary, has announced the government is considering plans to rent prison spaces from foreign countries as a solution to overcrowding in prisons in England and Wales.
Rwanda perhaps?
2) Lobbyists from TikTok, Amazon and gambling and crypto companies paid £3,000 a head to sit with ministers as part of the Conservative party’s business day, where Rishi Sunak set out his pitch to stop big corporates being wooed by Labour.

We need leaders here in Scotland to step up to the plate. NI Can be free of this corruption in 7 years if they want and all we do is just whine and let our politicians off the hook.
They`ve even managed to split the Independence support.
They`ve forgotten one thing, voters eventually get sick of the false promises and deal with them, they`re probably not even aware no party gets beyond 20 years in power.

It would be great if someone firstly fact-checked all these nonsense claims and then noted down all their promises. I`m intrigued to know how they`re going to get 20 trains an hour running between Sheffield and Leeds. No rolling stock, no capacity on the line and also absolutely unnecessary. Hilarious.

Funny how they never started the infrastructure in the North working towards London.

Some interesting and amusing comments on the Tory conference in letters to the Guardian today :-
How can they propose an Advanced British Standard educational qualification when education is devolved?
Does the proposal to spend some of the savings on HS2 on filling in potholes tell us what was really meant by `levelling-up`?
How are the Tories going to come up with future policies when there are no fag packets to write them on?

I see Rachel Reeves pinched the `fag packet` reference for her speech to the Labour conference today.

There`s nothing original about the managers of BLiS Eck.
Still scratching ma heed trying to figure out how they`ve made a recovery from Jim Murphy`s 2015 disaster. Thought they were dead and buried up here.

Jim Kelly? Do you mean Jim Murphy? Whatever happened to him? Will he be applying for nomination as a Labour MP now that they`re going to wipe out the SNP?
