From BBC News :-
Scotland`s only oil refinery is set to cease operations as soon as 2025 under plans announced by owners Petroineos.
The company said Grangemouth had been facing significant challenges because of global market pressures.
Petroineos said it aims to turn the site into a fuels import terminal. Work to transform the site is expected to take 18 months.
About 550 people are directly employed at Grangemouth.

So forecourts in an independent Scotland would be dependent on supplies from English refineries? Big advantage surely in any negotiations. All hypothetical of course.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

It`s almost as if they`ve been saying there`s a need to move towards green energy for good reason...
If left to the Tories all the eggs would be in one basket. So much for that union dividend.

Announced on the day of the Autumn statement, says it all really....an oil rich country without a refinery, at least we`ve got the NuSNP and the Greens fighting for us at the Westminster annexe, bet they were both scoffing the champagne yesterday proud of their progressive policies coming to fruition.
Waken up Scotland we`re on the road to nowhere.

Why do we vote in politicians ? Ask the nuSNP as they`ve been promising it for 10 yrs and not delivered yet ?
Pity they weren't as successful at independence as they are at jailing or attempting to jail innocent individuals ?
Hear there`s a big court case coming against the Scottish Executive, who says politics isn`t interesting......it's all about the timing..

No such thing as the Scottish Executive.
The Scottish *Government* have been involved in discussions with Petroineos for a while.
The suggestions of this being some political move are interesting. What I think we`re seeing here is a rich man throwing his toys out the pram because he knows the next party in Westminster will be Labour. The discussions with the Scottish Government have been about transition but the announcement feels like PI have pulled the rug put on the matter with a conveniently timed announcement. Note all the "could" in the statement.

He`s referring to Alex Salmond. He`s suing for a few million quid of "lost earnings" 😂
The hilarity if Alba were to in power in Scotland 2026 and he removes money from his own budget.

I`ve no idea why a rich Chinese company would throw their toys out their pram because of a change of government here
More to do with the huge losses that they keep having to subsidise, because the company try to fix big problems with band aids

For the exact reason you`ve just stated. The profits aren`t there because the tax is ridiculously high and Labour are suggesting raising it.
In fairly sure this is the same unit they proposed closing a decade ago, which is why the Greens (love em or hate em) have been pushing this transition away from oil and gas.
Tenruh, Alba can`t go into coalition with my party as I don`t have one. I`m hoping for a good independent to represent Dunfermline. Will it still be Hanvey down your way?

No it was both operations they had at the time that were threatened with closure but for totally different reasons.
It was mainly the Chemical plant that was shut because of a long running dispute over a union leader and revised terms that were offered to the workers

Yeah still Hanvey here. SNP struggling to get a credible candidate to stand against him. Would think the Tory light candidate will win the seat.
