You could not make this up :-
Climate Minister Graham Stuart flew back from the COP28 conference in Dubai to take part in a crunch Commons vote on the government`s Rwanda bill.
Mr Stuart is due to return to the Dubai summit after the vote - a round trip of 6,824 miles.
Chiara Liguori, Oxfam`s senior climate change policy advisor, said: "There can be no more tragic outcome for UK climate diplomacy than this - flying home from talks to avert a climate catastrophe at the most critical moment in an attempt to salvage a cruel and impractical policy."
Wonder who paid for that 1 vote ?

I’m giving hapless Humza a dose of whitabootery. He does it all the time, his go to response for every failure …

Which leads me to another question :-
Should MP`s be made to vote ?
37 Tory`s .. 8 Labour and a total of 13 others abstained last night on the Rwanda bill
The 37 Tory`s .. Braverman .. Jenrick .. et al did not vote as they were against the bill .. but they did not have the courage to vote against it
As for the 8 Labour .. goodness knows
They are well paid to do the job .. so they should be made to cast a vote and we should be informed as to who voted for what .. just saying

I think we are able to find out how individual MPs/MSPs voted, Bpp.
Parboiled, can you name a politician who doesn`t indulge in `whitabootery`? It was well in evidence at PMQs today but we know Westminster is exempt from criticism as far as you are concerned.

I thought that wee eck .. So perhaps explains why the misanthropes did not vote
I just find it strange that a paid MP can abstain on important life changing bills

Abstaining should only be allowed where certain criteria is met e.g. religious grounds, conflict of interest etc.

Surely in this day and age, a technological solution can be introduced so that it isn`t necessary for someone to have to actually be there in person to vote.
If someone is oversees on Government business surely it`s a waste of their time, and our money, to have them travel there and back when they could just make a call to instruct the house how they want to vote

They have a pairing system - couldn`t this have been used?
I think an abstention is a legitimate form of voting - just as in a parliamentary or council election. Even if you tried to make it compulsory there would be legitimate reasons why a vote could not be cast and people would end up missing their trains or being ill or whatever.
