I`ve just been reading that. It`s just another example of the lack of judgement shown by someone in a position of authority who would be expected to know when to keep his thoughts to himself rather than cause offence. Can he be trusted to exercise discretion over matters of State?

The first comment isn`t great, but also not particularly professional. Mentioning a date rape drug though...these guys need to remember we elect them and they work for us. Approx 50% if those people will be women and a small (thankfully) percentage will be the victims, friends and families of a date rape case. How out of touch can you be?

The galling part is jake it was female guests he was talking to :-
On the same day, Mr Cleverly had promoted a raft of new government measures to tackle spiking and described it as a "perverse crime".
According to reports first published by the Sunday Mirror newspaper, Mr Cleverly told some female guests there that "a little bit of Rohypnol in her drink every night" was "not really illegal if it`s only a little bit".
It also says he laughed that the secret to a long marriage was ensuring your spouse was "someone who is always mildly sedated so she can never realise there are better men out there".

Thinking back to office Xmas parties of yore, the sensible boss would be the one who had a drink or two then shoved off.
The ones who stayed were often the ones who made a fool of themselves.

100% but particularly in terms of civil service where the most senior person in attendance is responsible should anything happen. If you`re senior you have a drink to be sociable then make your excuses.

I tend to avoid the sort of parties where men joke about drugging and gaslighting women. Those sound like the sort of parties where everyone`s on edge and nobody gets laid.

From Aunty :-
The UK is not passing on enough information about small boats crossing the Channel, a French report has said.
The Court of Accounts, which audits spending in France, said intelligence provided to French police was often "first level" and "very general".
It said France needed more details about the boats and engines being used by criminal gangs.
The UK`s National Crime Agency said it had a close relationship with French law enforcement and border agencies.
But the Court of Accounts report on the battle against illegal migration concludes that the relationship between France and the UK is "unequal in terms of the exchange of information and intelligence".
Britain has set aside nearly £500m for France to spend on strengthening its policing of the dunes and beaches along the Calais coast in northern France.
This is where smugglers usher migrants into boats in the early hours, to begin the perilous crossing.
The report says this funding has contributed to the nightly deployment of 54 police officers backed up by 135 reservists.

Looks like we are giving asylum to Rwandans :-
Accepting Rwandan asylum seekers in the UK threatens to deal a fatal blow for elements of the Government’s Rwanda bill, experts have claimed.
i has revealed that six people from Rwanda have been granted asylum since ministers signed a deportation deal with the country in April 2022.
The Home Office did not disclose the reasons for granting asylum to each individual, however Government data show at least one decision was based on sexual orientation.
The fact that Rwandans are being granted asylum in the UK, based on their sexual orientation and other factors, could pave the way for appeals against deportation there, according to experts

What a surprise :-
MPs have rejected the Labour amendment to the Rwanda Bill to require the government to publish a full impact assessment of the costs involved in removals to Rwanda in advance of the Bill coming into force, including per person removal and the confidential financial memorandum signed between the two countries
