 Scottish Afairs Commitee.

If anyone thinks we live in a democracy….think again.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Genuine question but why is there an English MP sitting on the Scottish affairs committee? Regardless who is in power, surely it should be Scottish MPs? And why more Tories than Labour?!

There are 6 Labour MPs on the committee and 2 Tories. 6 > 2.

And if you can have male MPs on the Women’s Select Committee, then I think we can have English MPs on the Scottish Affairs Committee.

And yes Desparado, we do indeed live in a democracy. The reason the SNP don’t have much influence is because they lost most of their MPs in an election in July.

I had a chuckle at this, but then realised that you think that this is a serious post. Satire wouldn`t do it justice.

And why shouldn`t English MPs be on this select committee? Have already forgotten what John Donne said 400 years ago?
"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of they friends`s or of thine own were. Any man`s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind"
Shame on all of you whom have neglected his wise words.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

What exactly does the SAC cover? Purely reserved matters presumably if it`s at Westminster?

Listening to Kemi Badenoch`s interview with Martin Geissler at the weekend, where he asked her if the Union was `voluntary`, she seemed to be saying Scotland`s place in the Union wasn`t just a matter for Scotland. Labour probably feel the same way. I suspect if we were ever granted another independence referendum it would have to include voters from all over the UK. I love these altruistic non-Scots so determined to protect us from ourselves!

What about Scots living in England? Surely they should’ve got to vote in the referendum. Or are they ‘non-Scots’?

They don`t live in Scotland so I`m not sure how relevant independence would be to them. It would also be extremely difficult to administer such a vote. How do you define a Scot in that context?

Let’s not apply the ‘must be currently residing in Scotland’ qualifying criteria to our national football team.

Unionist arguments get ever more desperate. Why not just tell us why it doesn`t make sense for people who live in Scotland to be able to vote for one government that runs their affairs and nobody else`s.

Well Ted, let`s not apply that argument to England either as they would be missing out on Kane and Bellingham. Actually France and Portugal would be missing most of their top players as well.

Honest to God the level of debate on this forum has hit an all time low.

Why was Badenoch being interviewed about Scottish independence? Her party isn`t in power in the UK and is an almost irrelevance in Scotland.

Strange question, Jake. Maybe she was asked the question because she is the potential leader of the only other party likely to form a UK government.

Really? Worse than the time you and Red Star thought the Trump assassination attempt was staged? 😂😂😂

So the opinion of someone who *might* lead a party that *might* be in power in 5 years?! She then fluffed the answer massively by making the Union sound like the Hotel California.

And yet the validity of the attempt continues to be questioned. Maybe Stephen King will write a book about it like he did with Kennedy?
