 Another Union Benefit
Topic Originator: desparado

U.K. Gov distributes available funding for the fishing industry based on population.

Englands fishers get £300 million while Scotlands get £28 million, despite the fact that Scotlands fishing industry lands more than 50% of the UK’s total catch.

Yip sounds about right. Better Together, The Family of Nations, Equal Partner, Scotland should lead the U.K….bla bla bla.

What a pathetic nation we really are for continually accepting second best……….

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Anyone that still thinks we are “Better Together” is delusional at best. Sh*t on once again from WM.

And will only get worse next year when Reform take seats at Holyrood.

Plaid Cymru win the Caerphilly by-election for the Welsh Parliament with Reform second and Labour a distant third.

Saying it now - Reform will return 10-15 seats minimum next year at Holyrood.

Reform seem to be disappointed by the Caerphilly result. It seems there was a lot of tactical voting to keep them out.

Why should the UK government subsidise the fishing industry at all?

Well that`s a separate argument and I`m not entirely sure this money is a subsidy but let`s go with that. Once the decision has been made to subsidise it surely the money should go where the industry is?

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

So why was the EU subsidising fishing pre-Brexit?

Why not just leave the fish in the sea, saving money and the environment?

It`s not subsidies. It`s the extra paperwork and hassle UK fishers are experiencing. Reported to have cost £300m, which just so happens to be what the UK Government are contributing.

How Farage can sit in Westminster knowing his lot screwed immigration, screwed farmers and screwed fishers is beyond me. He`s got a brass neck! Sold his own country out in the US too.

Farage wont give a hoot. He knows he will be PM in 3 years time. They will return a decent number of seats next year too. Already know of a few that are voting for him because of his soundbites despite ignoring all of the things you stated above.

Aye The Tories are corrupt @rseholes and Labour are incompetent to say the least - But Reform will be both of these combined in to one…..

Farage doesn`t want to be a PM. None of the potential Reform party reps want elected as it means they`ll have to do some work! We`ve seen it in England already where they`ve pulled the classic "Councils are filled with lazy pen pushers" line only to get elected and find out there`s no fat left to trim as budgets have already been cut to the bone. Farage and his nonsense about introducing DOGE would surely start by sacking him immediately as he`s a lazy, greedy grifter.

If Reform gets elected down south then it`s a massive shot in the arm for Scottish independence.

How can Reform getting elected down south create a massive shot in the arm for Scottish Independence?

I think there`s a far greater chance of the Scottish Parliament getting shut down within the short term.

Because they will make a right royal bottom of things. If they even considered closing down Holyrood there would be revolt. They have no desire to get elected. Much easier to apply pressure from the sidelines and then walk away/deny having said anything when the policy change blows up in their face. We ended up with Brexit because the Tories felt pressured by UKIP and now Labour seem to be doing the same with Reform.

Well they better buckled up and prepare because after the next GE they will most likely be in charge of the country. And why would there be a revolt if Holyrood was closed by them? Will be a split Indy/Union Scottish Parliament by then, and we clearly don’t have the balls to run it ourselves anyway!

Holyrood election is next March/April. It`s expected to be pro indy minority again unless Labour get into bed with the Libs.

It might be good to get fresh blood in after years of the SNP but the alternatives don`t offer much in the way of confidence!

If reform win the next GE, I suppose it will be yet another example of the voting disparity in the uk where for every potential single in Scotland, there are 11 in England.

So basically we get whatever England wants, and the only time we get what we want is if we happen to agree with England

When it’s the two party system we’ve all grown up with it may not be as obvious to people not looking at that disparity, but when you looked at the brexit results it suddenly became obvious that there were clear differences between the two nations, and if Scotland doesn’t vote reform, but gets someone like reform forced on them, then hopefully everyone will start to wake up to the fact that by sheer conurbation alone, we are not a Union of equals

Billions squandered on accommodating asylum seekers apparently with no accountability by the Home Office. Labour blames the Tories and vice versa. Nothing changes.

BBC wetting themselves about Ferguson employees travelling to Turkey to check out the ferries being built there.

The costings were wholly based on figures supplied by the Tories, who misread the information supplied by an FOI.

An apology is still awaiting!🤔

In better news Kay Adams has been suspended from her £155,000 a year Radio Scotland job!👍🤣

It seems that the bulk of these `additional costs` were wages and salaries which would have been paid regardless of where the staff were working. Somebody doesn`t understand the difference between a fixed cost and a variable cost!

The important bit of policy today from Reform is that there needs to be more white people in tv adverts…..to show British culture……

Why would there be more white people when Reform also complain that white people are a minority in England? Surely they want equal representation?

To be fair to them, the amount of ethnic minorities in adverts has long been something joked about in Comms teams as you always ended up with a token ethnic minority person. Does anywhere outside of Europe or North America chuck in the token minority group?

Correct.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.
