Given it only costs £50 to apply to be a Reform candidate, what`s to stop someone applying, getting elected in a seat predicted to be Reform and then defecting to another party?

It might be nice to see some go the other way, Jenrick is a bit of a prize for Reform, I`ve heard there will be at least one Labour defection within a couple of weeks.

Farage has said he will announce it next Tuesday.

Karl Turner had been vocal over the past few days and I suspect Hull will be pro reform, having an elected Reform mayor.

I assumed it was a pre-requisite?

Yeah, just heard the press conference.

He is correct to set that deadline for defection, so if any are thinking of jumping ship it will probably happen sooner than later.

Not sure how many more MPs they need for more PMQs questions.

They need to be the 3rd biggest party so they`ll need to eclipse Lib Dems 72, as well as beating the SNP along the way.

Of course, more MPs will increase the chance of the random ballot but they will need quite a few defections to make much of a dent.

Miles off then.

Would be nice to have them and the Greens have a bit more to critique.

Jenrick, Zahawi, Dorries, Ross Thomson and Lee Anderson, all a bunch of utter c#4ts without exception. They all played their role in a Tory Party that helped the UK into the absolute state it`s in today, and why any party would want the likes of them should be enough to set alarm bells ringing. Mugs will vote for them though, hell mend then

Because people don`t care. They want soundbites. They want muppets like 50p Lee saying he`ll tackle asylum seekers when he couldn`t tackle a fish supper.

Reform now only one behind the SNP. With surely more Tories to come.

Nice to see Farage pushing for by-elections in each of the affected constituencies....

He seems to have lost interest in proportional representation too!

Never going to happen, as theres a chance these MPs will lose their seats.

Reform really is just the Tories mk2. Cant wait for many more years of austerity brought on by these clowns.

Oh, I know that Dave.

But this makes him look like the lying, snivelling tit that he is.

I remember during the global financial crisis of 2008 or whenever there was talk of setting up a special bank to which the major retail banks could offload their toxic assets. (I’m not sure how this would have worked in practice– presumably the idea was to allow the banks to get on with normal banking and specialists could try to unwind all the dodgy stuff).

Anyway, it seems Reform is providing a similar role. Toxic politicians? Buy them a membership of Reform.

I saw Farage at the Jenrick press conference.

He said three things that were interesting.

One, was that his party lacked experience. He’s continued this line with the Braverman defection. This seems a shift from “we’re new, we’re different” to “we’re getting the old gang back together again”. Of course, a track record of incompetence and stupidity does not seem a bar to electoral success.

Two, he said that Reform voters don’t “think much”. Quite. Populism laid bare.

Three, both he and Jenrick pronounced Kemi’s name as “Badd- enoch”, when she insists it’s “Baid-enoch”. Did they deliberately get it wrong as an insult, or does detail not matter to them?

To answer the original question, Reform’s candidate screening process has been notoriously poor (did they not pay someone else to do it at GE2024?). but I think even they would spot Andy Burnham pitching up looking to be a candidate.

I wonder if anyone`s thinking about standing as a Reform candidate then immediately deflecting to the Monster Raving Loony Party after the election?

Seems like nobody at Reform would bother checking and it`s a sideways step, so similar to going from Tories to Reform.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
