I just assumed it was natural causes given her age, absolutely terrible news this.
Police stating there is "no information to believe that that is a politically motivated crime". That seems like a bit of a holding statement, I would be surprised if there is no connection.

It may well turn out to be the case that is it something along the lines you describe, perhaps even something along the lines of being a burglary because she was a "rich politician" without being politically motivated.
I`m not suggesting, nor indeed think you are suggesting "not politically motivated" makes this any less atrocious.

It’s far too early to tell what the motive is but Jesus it’s absolutely terrible.
I really feel for her family and friends. She didn’t deserve that.
I do think some of the responses to her death are despicable. Nonce adjacent (apparently) Tatchel wrote something he’s had to retract and apologise for and Adam Boulton looks like a pr*k after his appearance on Sky.

Despite her being a Tory, and then, even worse, Reform, I actually quite liked her. She always seemed like a fairly normal, likeable person. It`s a real tragic event. My first thought was it`s probably a robbery gone wrong as well. Probably some poor kid that`s been badly affected by years of Tory austerity.
There are some politicians though, that I think may have a reckoning coming soon, the UK is simmering, they have sown the seeds of hatred, along racial lines, if people get smart and work out who the true enemy is, then there may be a lot more to come

Despite disagreeing with nearly 90% of her views (fox hunting a very notable exception), she was without question a woman of conviction who truly believed in what she spoke.
There is nothing wrong with that and she was open for debate and not just handing out soundbites for popularity.
Whatever happened, it’s a nasty way to go.

Someone’s been arrested for hurty words about Ann Widdecombe and everyone’s still arguing about irrelevant stuff.
As much as what was said about Ann Widdecombe is absolutely reprehensible, arresting someone for saying something doesn’t sit right with me. They could well use it as an excuse to tighten hurty words laws.
We’re well on our way to blasphemy laws. Something Ann would have been dead against.

Ann Widdecombe wrote passionately about her desire to limit people`s freedom to mock the tenets of Christianity.
She seemed fine with mocking the institutions and practitioners of Christianity to be fair. And she didn`t seem to have a problem with people mocking the tenets of other religions, or at least I can`t find any articles where she mentions it.
To me, it sounds like she was in favour of blasphemy laws in some form. I think she was Shadow Minister for Home Affairs when Gordon Brown`s government repealed England`s last (hopefully) blasphemy laws in 2008, and looking at her voting record she voted against it.

The University employee has not been charged under any "hate speech" law, he has been charged under the Communications Act for "severe public offense", something quite separate.
It is the same law count Dankula was prosecuted under for training his girlfriend`s pug to do a Nazi salute. In Dank`s case the police sought out a Jewish scholar, showed him the video (that he had previously never seen and did not know of it`s existence) and asked if he was offended.
Due to a previous precedent in law judges must evaluate whether a message is an actual threat or just an obvious piece of satire before deciding if it is "grossly offensive", the judge in Dank`s case ruled that it was not satire.
We are where we are with these ridiculous laws and maybe now it is rebounding on the people who introduced them (he is a green party member) we might find that they are looked at again.

It is society`s role to decide on these things, and society can shun those whose speech it deems unacceptable. There`s no need for government involvement.

Farage revealed he was informed by Keir Starmer by phone when it became clear it was murder that the initial opinion of the investigating authorities was a "botched burglary".
Farage told him that he did not believe that to be the case and it was more than likely political.

I don`t believe for one second that the police told Starmer, unequivocally, that it was a burglary gone wrong, when everything that they were stating publicly was they were keeping an open mind to the motive. I also then don`t believe that Starmer told Farage, unequivocally, that the police told him it was a burglary gone wrong. If it is the guy who they’ve arrested, he’s made an almost 600mile round trip. Left his house before 8am to arrive at hers at a time when she’s likely to be home - I highly doubt it’s a burglary gone wrong.
He’s went out of his way to murder her and I actually think Farage is right to highlight that it’s probably politically motivated considering her profile and her being a Reform member.

I certainly hope not.
It`s maybe due to "unconscious bias" they probably jump to "burglary gone wrong" because it was their preferred outcome.
While I think a more neutral position would have been for Ann Widdicombe to be robbed, let alone killed and there be no possible political motive although possible, highly improbable.

Saying they were investigating and keeping an open mind seemed like far the most sensible approach. In the early stages of an investigation it`s ok not to understand the facts.
Of course, saying they thought it wasn`t political or terror related could simply have been an approach to get someone to communicate online and implicate themselves.
It`ll come out in due course. It seems like they have caught the current suspects quickly given the geography involved.

Oh come on, it`s two different guys, two different races.
Because it`s not real. Here is the real court drawing:
It appears to be being reported that there were two artists in the court that day (which sounds weird).
And the one named on the original AP article picture seems legit.
Any idea why the mix up?

The court impression is not taken in court. It’s done from memory and witness accounts, and they’re drawn outside of court, so the likeness is never going to be the same.
Also the photograph of the suspect is approximately 4 years old. It has already been established that when he appeared for the preliminary hearing his hair was much shorter than in the photograph.

Thanks Buffy. It seems a completely antiquated system. I guess things change at the point of sentencing. You would think if they could be so wrong that providing no pictures at all might be better!
