Another apparent suicide by hanging,earlier this week the fashion designer Kate Spade killed herself in the same manner.

I was more than sad about this one.
I don't know what it was, but I always felt some sort of 'connection' to his approach to experiences, travel, food:
"Your body is not a temple, it's an amusement park. Enjoy the ride."
Was in New York a couple of years ago and made a point of eating at Brasserie Les Halles, just for the connection to him.

Very much agree with your observations, GG. Rare for someone in his sixties, but he absolutely exuded COOL. He did connect with the viewer in a very tangible way. I caught up with my daughter in Hong Kong three years ago and we made a point of eating at a dumpling joint that Bourdain had featured on his show. It was (as he had promised) cheap, it was friendly and it was delicious.
To me, he seemed to be living the dream lifestyle. But of course, we don't know what is going on behind the facade. To be honest, I don't know if I will be able to watch his shows again. It might just be too sad.
