Apricot without a doubt. Make sure you get the Lamb Choila starter. Kushi's, The Viceroy, Everest Inn and Royal Bengal are all good too (we're blessed with good Indian restaurants) but Apricot is superb. Opposite the old fire station.

I don't think there is a bad Indian restaurant in town. They are all good so I you won't be disappointed wherever you go.
Everest Kushis and Apricot usually get most votes. I like the Royal Bengal too and they are in the Pars 1885 club I think.
Personally I think Apricot is a class and a half above the rest but that is not a criticism of the others.

would second Everest, never had a bad one from there yet.

Playup wasn't Shimla turning into a world buffet type place? was good when just curries but if that offering is reduced to make way for other stuff its prob not worth it.

"Playup wasn't Shimla turning into a world buffet type place? was good when just curries but if that offering is reduced to make way for other stuff its prob not worth it"

was in about 6 weeks ago for first time in months and refit completed but still just curries in the buffet. Well not just curries but the usual spread of options. More than doubled the size of the food area so may well introduce other foods but the indian curry area certainly not reduced.

Was in Basil in Carnegie Drive last week and I can also recommend giving it a go but as previously said I don't think we have a bad one locally.
Everest isn't the best looking restaurant but the food is good.
Bengal give you a discount if you have a Centenary Club membership.

I fell out with Apricot when they wouldn't give me pre theatre because I hadn't booked.

Blessed with Indians in the toon, also tried basil recently for a takeaway, had the curried lamb shank and it was fantastic.

Apricot is one of only 3 restaurants in town that I would class as, "Fine Dining".
The other two are The Garvock Hotel and Incontri.

I would add that Lucas Kitchen ( ex Mill & Grill ) is also excellent. Cosimo has really turned that place round.

I haven't been to all the places in town though. But these three are a class above anything else I have tried.

I hate to say Parrot Garvock House on the 2 occasions I have tried is the worst attempt of fine dining I have come across. Worst service, poor food, no ambiance and a cheeky manager on both occasions, like eating in a morgue!

Buffet weddings is the best it has to offer!

Incontri yes really enjoyed the food, ambiance and service.

Apricot I haven't been but I need to try.

I'm surprised you don't list Khushi's as the dining experience is very good with good service and they will accommodate most requests.

Lucas's kitchen the reviews I've had have been varied and Saturday night they seem to struggle and mid week the food is up and down with the service!

Sightly away from town the best restaurants in my book are The wee Restaurant North Queensferry. Orroco Pier South Queensferry and Scran and Scallie in Stockbridge and the Stockbridge Restaurant.

Further afield we dined last night at The Newport owned by Masterchef Professional winner 2016 Jamie Scott. The food was truly divine and worthy of a Michelin Star on all levels. Still at a reasonable price but will change when the inevitable star arrives.

I do rate Kushis very highly but not fine dining. Disappointed to hear your experience at the Garvock. Always been excellent in my book.
Never tried the Wee Restaurant but heard a few folk raving about it so must go sometime.

On that basis I'm very keen to find out what put Apricot in your top 3 of fine dining if Khushi's is not in that bracket.Especially as the chefs in Apricot are from Khushi's.

I have been to Kushis several times and had takeaways. Never disappointed.
There is more to Apricot. They dont do takeaway because they focus all the effort on the restaurant and dont want a distraction.
You eat out a lot more than me so you have a bigger knowledge base to draw from. Try Apricot and let me know what you think.

Point of order sir but Apricot do do takeaways. They don't highly publicise the fact and they aren't on your Just Eat or Scoffable etc but they do (and they will also deliver).

The difference between Apricot and Kushi's for me is twofold - firstly they have more than your standard curryhouse options (like the aforementioned lamb choila - never seen it anywhere else and it is about the finest thing I've ever tasted) and secondly the food there is always clearly made fresh - not only are there subtle changes every time you go in as the chef is adding spices to taste, but there is no trouble at all with any changes unlike in some places where they clearly make a big batch of sauce and just chuck the meat in at the end. I like Kushi's but found the meat quality (especially the lamb) not as good as Apricot and on occasion the sauce was a little watery. It's still a good Indian and the service whenever we've been has been very good. As I said previously I think we're well off for Indians in the town. If only we could get a decent sitdown Chinese!

My biggest problem is the wife will no longer eat Halal meat so Indians are off as a family or couples meal along with a few other options.

Surprised about the reviews of Kushis. Didn't that place take out half the toon at one point ? Could be mistaken of course.

Lol, what a pair of drama queens.

That was indeed an unfortunate incident. 11 people suffered symptoms of e-coli linked to Kushis.

They shut the shop, fixed whatever the problem was and ill bet its the safest place to eat in town after their experience.

Kushis are a respectable, reputable company. This wasn't due to a history of poor procedures, it was an unfortunate incident.

It was also 4 years ago. No problems before or since.

Got to be honest I never got the love in for Kushis either and that was without knowing they'd had an ecoli outbreak.

Not terrible but certainly a lot of better curry houses in Dunfermline.

Khushis is the worst Indian in town and surrounding areas. Menus also garbage. Hottest thing they do is a jalfrezi (unless you get poisoned by them again and have a burning ring) Get a pataks sauce jar out asda for similar dining experience.

Says more about you than it does about Kushis.

Alaris has been closed for a while now.

Anyone asking for "the hottest thing you have" is one for the watching though. Chefs will chuck in any old crap since the heat covers any other flavour and in the same way asking for a steak very well done can mask poor quality meat, you'll get the mankiest bits of meat in your super hot curry too. Medium spice is the way to go - a little on the mild or hot side to taste clearly - since the spices will all compliment each other and when done well you can taste each individual flavour and understand what the chef is trying to do. Quite why folk seem to want to show of their manliness by going for the hottest thing going is baffling.

half agree with H2C, found kushi's to be pretty much all taste very similar on the bland side and a very limited menu.

If you have a choice of sit in indian, surely kushi's wouldn't be in anyone top 3?

Staff have generally been nice though, and it's a good building.

A fatwa in Turkey in 2015 decreed that Muslims could use toilet paper, although they are really meant to clean themselves with water after. This might explain why I see some of the muslims at work taking a bottle of water into the toilets with them. They do fill it up at the water tap next the the hot drinks in the kitchen area, so that now worries me a bit. I would imagine pretty soon all work places will need to provide suitable facilities for muslims to use

From your own link, number 11:

it is permissible to use toilet paper because toilet paper is produced to be used after answering the call of nature.

You hear scare stories about McDonald's, about Greggs, about local producers, about butchers, about chicken factories, about sausage manufacturers, about sandwich shops... indeed I've heard scare stories from friends of mine who have worked in said establishments. Guess what? I've eaten in/from those places and I'm still fine. I've very rarely had food poisoning and my immune system is in fine fettle.

Parrot, you admit you like Indian food and eat in Kushis, yet you feel halal food should be banned.
As far as I'm aware Kushis is one of many Indian restaurants that use halal meat?
If that's the case, then you're part of the problem sir.

Correct.
I make my own nowadays but I might occasionally go out. Must be honest I dont really think about it. I dare say I should. If it was banned I wouldn't need to.

Actually you got me thinking...I might just take a stand on the issue.

I know a guy that works in pest control , after a few beers I managed to get him to tell me the worst place he'd worked at for rats , he said that without a doubt it was shimla palace , said the place was manky and was moving with them , kinda put me off it after that , that was a few years ago now though so it might have changed
