Here is a remarkable report on how China is keeping a very close eye on its citizens and giving them a score for their behaviour. As time goes on, it becomes so clear that George Orwell was such a visionary!
We in the West may think that this dystopian world will never become a reality where we are, but quite honestly, I wouldn’t discount it happening sooner rather than later everywhere. Please check this out; it is from a highly reliable source.

Bit like that black mirror episode (albeit that was thinking about social scores through 'likes' - but this is even more sinister)

In the Shenzhen region it dramatically cut crime. I was amazed at the difference where eating out and walking around was no problem at all where previously it was not so clever to be a westerner in certain areas.
The report is correct that you get a call from the “sources” if you are stepping outside the bounds of the useful internet as a warning.

We were in Beijing airport a few years back and the only way for visitors to access the internet in the arrival and departure areas airside was to scan your passport at a wall mounted reader.
Even then access to many sites were restricted or prohibited.
