Reading the Metallica gig prices on post here. Got me thinking, remember a when of bands at the Cuinzie Nuek, Marillion for one, Fish all 7ft9 of him going to punch my lights out for stating they were a crap Genesis and I hated Genesis. But talked up the Hibs and everything was good. Payed £3 to see Bowie, Rush, Rainbow and the mighty Quo at different venues back in the day.The bands make their dosh now touring and not through record sales now I think.I would say get out and watch live music at local gaffs. Luck down here two good rock/live music pubs near by. Seen Graham Bonnet few weeks back for a fiver in a 100 or so capacity boozer. Brilliant show.

philltwo..

Think The Who at the Ballroom was about 60p in the 60's., Elton John not much dearer 1971.
Forgot about Bowie 1969, even though he wasn't very good!

The Hollies and Marianne Faithfull both at the KB in 1965. Think it was 10 bob or 50p in new money.

Stiff Little Fingers.

My friend booked tickets for a Saturday show only for Ticketmaster to say that close to the gig they sold out and miscalculated.

I wrote about my disappointment in the SLF forum and received a lovely Email from Jake Burns himself.
Knowing I was in Germany he put me and my two pals on the guest list.
We saw them two nights in a row as a result as , thinking I'd missed out, we went to Aberdeen to watch them on the Friday.

He's a top guy.

Bit of cheat... I got a full weekend camping ticket at Leeds 2000 for 30 quid as a pal couldn't go a short notice. One of the best lineups ever if like me, you were a massive indie through to nu-metal fan.

Bands I seen that weekend were (in no particular order)

Rage Against the Machine
Muse
Queens of the Stone age
Stereophonics
Slipknot
Blink 182
Limp Bizkit
Foo Fighters
Deftones
Oasis
Idlewild
Aereogramme
Oasis
JJ72
Bluetones and personal favourite,
At the Drive In.
Missed out on a lot aswell
Sublime lineup

In the early seventies, the place to go for live music was a rundown joint called the Green's Playhouse in Glasgow. It later became the Apollo.

Concerts then weren't like they are today with a big name on the bill and maybe a support band to warm things up. They sometimes had three or four bands doing short 30-minute sets followed by the main act doing about an hour. I think the cost was about a pound.

Because of the time it took to reorganise things between acts, occasionally you would miss the headline band so as to catch the last train home.

I was into progressive rock at the time and thinking back, some nights the line-ups were chock-a-block with what we would regard today as rock legends.

My fist real gig was Iron Maiden at the Playhouse in 1983, for £4.50

Years later I was living in LA and they announced a show at the relatively nearby Long Beach Arena. Cost? $250 a whack...

Methinks not... Absolutely crazy money to pay for a single act, even one as good as Iron Maiden...
