 Washing Machine problems

Got a bit of a strange one and wondered if anyone had any suggestions please.

When we choose the dark wash pre-set option to do a washing load, the clothes have started coming out slightly fusty smelling like they've been left in the washing machine for a day even if we take them straight out. The strange thing is that if we choose any other settings they come out fine and smell like either the washing powder or fabric softner.

The washing machine is only 6 months old and no other preset wash has the same issue. Any ideas and any advice appreciated!

Cue lots of jokes about not washing etc..

Cheers mate I'll follow the advice in that. Might be it as most of the washes have been low temps.

Never put washing on low temperature. It doesn't kill bacteria or cleans machine.

Is there a drum clean setting? Had a similar problem with our Samsung now and again. Watch with the drainage though. Forces water out at higher rate I think and can sometimes result in exit pipe overflowing.

Had this problem once and I felt it was a combination of the outfeed and using the soft tablets that we were using. Switched to powder instead and problem immediately disappeared. Even at low temperature.

Vinegar and baking soda on the hottest wash, no clothes let it do its full thing, spin and all. Then load up machine with normal powder/softner and try that. It worked for me.

Video clips on you tube for this problem if your stuck LPF.

Thanks again everyone.

Ipswich - had a look and it doesn't appear to have one if those which is disappointing.

Alfonso - interesting it's almost always my polo shirts that are most effected by this.

Stevie - just noticed the default is higher than I thought at 40 and I don't change it so I think that should be ok?

Parsmad - we use tablets as well so I might give that a go but every other was comes out fine so we didn't think it was the tablets (unless they're no good at 40 but I think some of the other preset we use are 40 too).

GG4 thanks I think I'll give that a go too. No harm in trying just need some baking soda!

Thanks again everyone it is really appreciated.

Chuck a dishwasher tablet in and run on hottest wash.

I was going to suggest the same as twin par. Alternatively, if this doesn't work, you could try placing a dishwasher cleaner like Finish in the tub. Getting it on the hottest wash is the key, I think.

Of course, there are specific washing machine cleaners. Here's two that are available here in Oz. You can check if they or similar are available in UK.

1. Washing Machine Magic 4 in 1 Cleaner

2. Dr. Beckmann Washing Machine Cleaner

Yeah. The smell is because temp not hot enough to kill bacteria.Dishwasher tablets have chlorine in them.I have always used them, works every time and cheaper.

We stick Dettol Laundry Cleanser in with our stuff, worked wonders with my work shirts and also build up of white marks from anti-perspirant.

A big bugbear of mine - white deodorant marks. Sure and black polo shirts don't mix.

Again Bicarb soda and vinegar removes most of this too unbelievably.

Bicarb of soda and vinegar is good for freeing up slow drains in the sink and shower too! Chuck those down, let it fizz for a wee while, then rinse away with a couple of freshly-boiled kettle's worth of water. Much cheaper than the commercial stuff you buy.

This is my signature
