Vets in Dunfermline / Pet Insurance
Topic Originator: preston par

Looking for recommendations for a vet in Dunfermline for a puppy my daughter will be getting in the next few weeks. She'll come with her first two vaccinations but she's looking to get her registered as soon as she gets her.

Cheers in advance.

inglis in cowdenbeath. little cheaper than most and takes a bit longer as they are students who then have checks validated by a vet. Great with our old dog who recently got put down and also amazing with our new puppy.

Best vet in the whole of Fife is Billy McNeil in Aberdour!

But only go if you can handle truth and honesty.

Depends what kind of cover you want.

Compare the market for options and costs

My wife is part of a Scottish Dog Rescue. There was one in Dunfermline that they had to take to Ingils on Hospital Hill, they were hellish by all accounts. Very unprofessional.

I think the one in hospital hill is just a rehabilitation place
doesn't mean they shouldn't be helpful though make sure you get liftime cover and check the small print as to how much will be payed out operations can run into thousands

Definitely definitely get pet insurance but the policies vary so much I think it will be hard to recommend someone. As noted above you have to shop around for what's best for you.

It's extremely boring and a bit of an obvious statement but read the small print so you know about any excesses or exclusions. My girlfriend had to put her cat in over night at her vets and the bill was pretty big for a couple of nights and although the insurance covered it, on top of the excess that she knew about, there was an additional excess because the cat was older that she didn't know about. Small clauses like that are easy to miss.

Might also be worth doing some research on the dog breed your going for. Some breeds are susceptible to specific health issues and it can sometimes be worth paying a bit more if the dogs got a higher risk of an ailment that's expensive to treat.

Not going to go go into finer details with Inglis as to why I stopped using them, but they are victim of their own success.
Fleeced me for weeks on situation which was terminal on diagnosis, but I paid for the experimental drugs and dog had the additional suffering and operations.

I've 3 dogs on the go at the same time for the best part of 30 years.

Also my dogs get their initial jags but never boosters. Always apart from unrelated deaths have lived past 12.

Never had insurance as it would be invalid due to point above, as nowadays so many other points are used to invalidate.

Always read the small print. In most cases you would be better putting the £25+ a month into a box under the bed, at the end of the dogs life I'd bet my bottom dollar you would have a tidy pile left, especially after they increase the cost at 4, 7, 10 then cancel the policy at 12 when you actually might need it!

I'm late to this thread Preston par but have a look at "Bought By Many" It is an interesting concept.

I have been with them since July 2017 and my premium is unchanged.

Bertiesback, mentioned this to her over the weekend and I'm nearly certain she is going to go with your recommendation so hats off to you sir! No idea which option she is going for but she said they've got a few lifetime cover options for a very reasonable prices compared to PetPlan etc
