Maybe it's just me but I can't be bothered with TV on auld years night.
Do they still roll oot Jackie Bird & Ally Bain?
Runrig, Texas, proclaimers etc...?

Ah well happy new year all even if entertainment was crap compared to years before.
Mind you New Year itself has been hijacked anyway and nothing like it was in the good old days.No visit neighbors and houses in darkness now.A few fireworks going off which our mutt totally ignores, thank god.

Forget Only an Excuse, I never thought I'd hear Gary Tank Commander chatting to Karen Gillan in LA about Lourenzos.

Karen Gillan, did she stay down St Andrews Street way?
If it's the same Karen what is she doing in LA?

Dunfermline High Street compared to Sunset Boulevard? Must be on drugs.
Dalgety Bay also gets a mention.

I agree with that but they overdid it by effectively repeating the same sketch umpteen times. I can't believe he's still doing Frank McAvennie.

They are simply too old for some of the people they are trying to carry off.
Like him or not Steven Gerrard isn't a wee old man with a spongy face.
Utter pi5h.

I thought the sketch with the Celtic fan in the pub talking about his show wrapping the same old pysh up year after year was ironic. I think people watch it just to see how worse it can get. It’s abysmal.

I wouldn't go as far to say it was funny but it was a bit better than last year's one which was beyond bad.
TBH I wouldn't watch it now but my girlfriend almost treats it like a bit of a tradition and we have to.

It was really poor. His impressions of souness, law, mcavennie, Tommy burns, Walter Smith etc were pretty good when he first started doing it but the longer it's gone on it's as if he doesn't try any more. Brendan Rodgers, Gerrard and Steven Thomson were terrible.

Thought it was ok this year, few laugh out loud moments
It certainly wasn't as bad as that Gary abomination that was on before it. Quite possibly the worst and most cringe hour of telly it's ever been my misfortune to watch.

BBC Scotland and STV getting panned for their Hogmanay efforts.
I watched Jules Holland show which was quite good, only thing that annoys me is that it's recorded mid November.

Folk like tradition at New year. Probably why folk continue to watch it. It was probably the highlight of many folks new year regime back in the day. Unfortunately while I admit to finding it funny 20 years ago... Now it just isn't. (to me anyway)

agree its about 20 years out of date and given its events form last 2-3 weeks that's covered its like they forget about it and its only the temp/apprentice in office between xmas and new year that's left to come up with the material.

The 'Macca' one has been a dead duck for years.
He hasn't been relevant for a long time in the sense of being in the public eye and that he isn't on TV as pundit or similar (as far as i know). A lot of the younger generation have no idea who he is.
Now on the flipside of that you have the likes of Allan McInally who i personally think is one of Watson's best pieces of work (Tommy Burns was his best IMO) from both the voice down to the wee quirky mannerisms he has.
He is relevant in terms of current exposure as he is active on SKY Sports news, Soccer Saturday etc so people would make the connection yet he hasn't done him for a good few years unless i'm mistaken.

Indeed TAFKA, based on viewing i took to watching the older ones on youtube and many of the "faces" that were on the show were guys like Charlie Nicholas, Jim White, McInally and Davie Provan who are now all on sky. Few older faces not around much these days such as Dougie Donnelly.
Watching back you see how much other influences had on the show such as tony Roper, Alastair McGowan etc.

Part of the problem is that it panders to the Old Firm and Tartan Army.
Whilst I understand the need to focus on the Scotland team, it needs a new injection of comedy outwith Rangers and Celtic. Trouble is that wouldn't pander to the masses.
Surely the SFA/Doncaster, Craig Levein and the Scotland ladies football team should have merited more? Perhaps some left field jokes using Trump and his Scottish connection? Instead of regugitating old jokes about Frank Macca, why not get some other comedians/impressionists to freshen it up?

Good shout. If memory serves me right they did that by introducing Alistair McGowan in the late 1990s and some of his impressions were spot on.
