 Book you are reading
Topic Originator: desparado
Date:   Wed 23 Jan 09:11

In the winter months I tend to read a lot.

Just finished How not to be a boy by Robert Webb. Apparently is was the number one best seller in the Sunday times. Described as “Laugh out loud Funny “ and “ Simply Brilliant “ amongst other things. Can’t agree. It was funny in parts and poignant in other parts, a good read, but nothing special.

Currently reading AA Gill. Pour me a Life.

Interested in what others have read recently/are reading just now.

Just finished Tattooer of Auschwitz and now reading
- The life changing magic of not giving a F??? and
- Vietnam a history between 1945-1975.
Auschwitz book was humanity through horror. A new perspective as any books I read on the final solution were concentrating on the facts rather than from someone who lived through the horror.

If anyone is interested in reading books from astronauts, strongly recommend Riding Rockets. Funny, sad and enlightening from a space shuttle crew member and how these guys minds are shaped differently to the rest of us mere mortals.

Just finished "The Warriors" by Sol Yurick. The film was only very loosely based on the book, they're a lot less likeable here but probably more realistic.

Now onto the second of Stuart Cosgrove's Soul trilogy, "1968 Memphis: The Pars Win The Cup Again".

<<Started reading Isaac Asimov's 'Foundation'. Can totally understand why its a bit of essential sci-fi reading>>

That was probably the first sci-fi book I ever read. Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke and Aldiss made their fortunes from the book-lovers of my generation. Good to know that they are still being read.

<<I tried a brief history of time a few years back....

Same with me. In fact, I don't think I know anyone who has completed the book. Most folks seem to have abandoned it about a third of the way through.

I am currently reading 'Chronicles Volume One' by Bob Dylan. A beautifully written piece of work. Oh, to have this man's talent with words!

Yeah I was in over my head straight from the first page.
I think I just wanted to challenge myself and was sure I could at least understand a bit of it....
Ach well there's always old issues of viz to fall back on.... It was way funnier back then too 😂

BHoT by Hawking is pretty...tough to get through. Really enjoyed how he was able to describe physics in a way that Was able to improve my limited knowledge on Black holes etc. Definitely not for everyone though

There are videos from alleged ex "handlers" who say he was deliberately debilitated. Not sure of the validity...but can anyone determine the validity that what he said was his own words?

Let's face it more elaborate ruses than that have been pulled off.

I tend to usually have a few books on the go at any one time. Currently almost finished Misbehaving - the Making of Behavioural Economics by Richard Thaler and over half way through Bounce - The myth of talent and the power of practice by Matthew Syed, Nicholas Taleb’s Skin in the Game and David Sumpter’s (Liverpool fan with lifelong affection for the Pars) Soccermatics - Mathematical Adventures in the Beautiful Game. Finished first three chapters of Stephen Hawking’s Brief Answers to the Big Questions and just started Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
