I totally agree. Especially the really strong skunky stuff you get nowadays.
Ive lost a few friends and seen a fair few lives ruined due to the abuse of cannabis.

So is this proof?
No. The researchers were unable to prove cannabis use was definitively causing depression.
Quote above from the article. I'm not rubbishing the claims, but I doubt they will ever be able to conclusively link the two. I would argue that a sizable proportion of kids smoking cannabis, are doing so due to a difficult background, and may well already have underlying mental health issues.

They are reporting the findings of academic researchers - how does that make the story inaccurate ?

This is not a frivolous matter.
If you have anyone close to you hooked on cannabis you can see first hand some of the distressing psychotic behaviour it creates and the impact this has on others.

2 of my friends commited suicide and 1 is currently a psychotic mess. Cannabis was the primary cause. The narks continue to increase the levels of THC to make it more potent....and more damaging.
Oddly enough the medicinal cannabis needs THC to work. There is a legal limit on the strength though.

To digress, a lot of same-sex couples have a 'husband' and a 'wife' although I'm not clear what the distinction is. For example, I think Ruth Davidson is the husband in her relationship, yet it was she who carried their child. Life is confusing.

My mistake, Tory drug minister wants to keep her hubby's profits up.
The mainstream media covered it too for the gullible.

Victoria Atkins has NO political office on health matters and never has - she is certainly not the Health Minister, that would be Matt Hancock ?
The dubious reason she is described as "Drugs Minister" is because that area (in terms of criminality) comes within her remit as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Crime, Safeguarding and Vulnerability.
The Home Office licence to British Sugar to grow cannabis was granted before she took office and she declared her "interest" when a backbench MP.
As she is opposed to the legalisation of the drug it's unclear (to me a least) how that meets the "the health minister wants to keep her cannabis profits up and maintain her husband's monopoly" suggestion.

The issue is since she was appointed her recommendations have certainly enhanced her husband's business standing.
She has since turned down other similar ventures as cannabis "has no medicinal benefit" whilst her husband trades cannabis....for medical benefit.
But hey, the two proles I expected to stick up for her duly obliged🤣

Isn't she speaking about 2 different types of cannabis. Hey I don't know as I have no involvement with the drug in either form.

It's also extremely unattractive. Would never date a lassie who smokes weed, as it's just disgusting.
It should stay illegal

"She is an influence on drugs policy, yes?"
The government of the day makes such policies. There will be many senior figures in the Tories (and other parties) who have far more influence on the issue.
"She has influenced husband's business,yes?"
Only if an individual newly elected back bench MP, who has declared an interest, can manipulate contracts at Home Office ministerial level.
I expect legalised drug manufacture is but a very small area of British Sugar's enterprises.
"Conflict of interest, yes?"
What compromise ?
It doesn't seem to have raised any ongoing significant objections in Parliament ? Happy to be educated on that aspect.
The only objectors would appear to be the pro drug legislation faction - and that would be par for the course.
"But yeah, you get hung up I used the wrong title for her."
Not knowing basic facts is a touch more of a substantive error than getting a wrong title - she has no role in health matters.
Nice try at deflection, but no cigar.

Is "drugs" medicinal or otherwise not a health issue?

"She has the power to refuse licenses."
I would have thought that came under the Home Secretary, Sajid Javid ?
If she took action that was contrary to government policy she would lose office in double quick time, as would any other MP.
"Is "drugs" medicinal or otherwise not a health issue?"
Drugs in the medicinal field is obviously a health issue - and would come within the responsibility of the Health Minister, Matt Hancock, not Victoria Atkins who has a totally separate and different remit.

To be fair, the same applies to cigarettes.
I smoked between the age of 15 and 25 and it was only when I stopped did I appreciate the smell that came off fags and the rank reek that lingered on clothes and around the house etc.

Victoria Atkins was appointed to her Junior Ministerial post in November 2017, a year AFTER the Home Office awarded the licence to General Sugar to produce legalised cannabis.
Carry on ignoring the facts.
