Is it time the festival came to an end?

I used to enjoy lining up at the bookies and putting a raft of each way bets on but in years gone by I've lost interest, predominantly because over the years a number of horses have died, all in the interests of sport and viewers. Three died during this years festival.

I now can't watch it, doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Think it's time it was put to bed.

Still enjoy watching it and these days it's really the only time I bet on the horses.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Ban horse racing and what happens to all the race horses?

They die doing what they love not what they are forced to do, horses that unseated their riders were still jumping fences yesterday!

I don't think dying doing what they love to do justifies anything to be honest.

I'm not suggesting either banning horse racing in its entirety, but some of the races and the height of those fences with the amount of riders, isn't right to me.

Every year at Grand National, first question is who won and the second is nearly always how many died, it quite frankly shouldn't be like that.

Would you be comfortable putting a crocked footballer down?

I had never considered this as a better deterrent than a yellow card for simulation but it might have some legs!

....or those pretending to be injured for a few weeks.....

The strange thing is that the people who care most about the horses are those involved with their care and well being and the sport as a whole.

...ken?

I take it a curtain was pulled around the girl as she writhed in agony and a doctor put her out of her misery?

RM I agree that there is a massive difference between a horse and a girl but I didn't compare gymnastics to horse racing.

Jump racing has been banned in all but two states in Australia for quite a number of years.

I read somewhere that veterinary study found horses were 19 times more likely to die in jump racing than on the flat.

The comparisons made are quite honestly baffling...nevermind.

At least the Ozzies have got it right.

It’s pretty barbaric. I stopped betting on it years ago. Not any different from bullfighting imo.

Oh no, bullfighting is far more barbaric.

Will never quite understand using animals for sport.

All sport is tribal and primitive. It appeals to our base instincts.
