The Police were invited into the Ecuadorian Embassy to make the arrest. A short video of the event shows a heavily bearded figure shouting "Resist" as he was taken to a Police van.

Oh my, this is turning very nasty very quickly. It is now revealed that the UK is responding to a US extradition request... could he be on a trans-Atlantic flight tonight?
Scotland Yard has confirmed that Assange was arrested on behalf of the US after receiving a request for his extradition.
In a statement it said:
Julian Assange, 47, (03.07.71) has today, Thursday 11 April, been further arrested on behalf of the United States authorities, at 10:53hrs after his arrival at a central London police station. This is an extradition warrant under Section 73 of the Extradition Act. He will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court as soon as possible.

Some of the Swedish charges against him for sexual assault have lapsed because of the length of time since the alleged rape took place.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

About time. Holed up in the Equadorian Embassy rather than facing justice. Get him out of the UK soon as.

"The only British crime was breach of bail for what he was arrested for after reported becoming violent in the embassy the reason they requested his removal by the police at 10am this morning in a pre arranged meeting"
Apparently the Ecuadorian authorities gave Assange a list of house rules to be followed if he wished to benefit from their continued diplomatic protection - this ranged from cleaning his accommodation to refraining from activities of a political nature.
It seems he failed to do so and they ended his tenancy agreement, so to speak.

I guess their change of stance will be nothing at all to do with the 4.2 billion dollars handed out to the Ecuadorian government in January

Yeah it's disgusting that they only stopped harbouring an alleged sexual molester when they were handed a few billion dollars.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

The IMF agreed to a $4.2 billion bailout so the British police could collar Assange ?
That would be the biggest ransom in history - not sure the IMF is into that sort of "generosity" at all.

Other way round mate. Ecuador agreed to be a bit more compliant with their foreign and economic policy. Austerity, privatisation and oh look who we can hand over too..

He's not out of the poo on one of the rape allegations either, the Swedish authorities are reported to be considering re-opening the case.
It wasn't taken forward after he took sanctuary because that prevented the investigation proceeding - reports that it had been (permanently) dropped are misleading.
The other similar allegations by a second woman had to be abandoned in 2015 after their statute of limitations kicked in.

Seems like a change of President , his general behaviour and lack of personal hygiene were too much for them in the end.
Odious individual but the Corbynistas are out in force.

Sad day when we accuse a journalist for exposing the hideous truth
If he is indeed accusable of the Swedish charges of course he must face them, but not for showing the blatant disregard of human life by the American war machine

He is not a journalist, calpar. He is a publisher. There is a significant difference between the two roles.
