The Ashes
Topic Originator: Berry

England start off by winning the World Cup where there was an error with the amount of runs Stokes should've got which could have totally changed the outcome.

They've now just levelled the Ashes series where Stokes had a fantastic innings however when down to single numbers left, was out, umpire made the wrong call and the Aussies only shortly wasted their last review so couldn't challenge it. Nevermind some poor fielding from Lyons.

Theres a lot of events in cricket that can change games obviously but crikey luck is with them at the moment. Momentum could carry them to winning the series.

A year where they could be World Cup and Ashes winners when they so could easily have been the nearly men.

Either way been some 'entertaining cricket', two words I've never used in a sentence before..

There's a school of thought that English batsmen can no longer play a traditional Test innings, playing themselves in and taking few chances, because of the prevalence of limited over cricket. Ironically, out of necessity, the third Test ended up being won by a batsman playing a traditional limited over innings, attacking the bowling and going for boundaries. Amazing entertainment!

Good point Eck, Geoff Boycott has been going on about opening batsmen in particular waving the bat at balls they should be leaving well alone, lack of concentration and patience etc. It’s their job to dig in and build a decent platform.
Even that grumpy old git must have been happy though, and great credit to Stokes, talk about coolness when the heat is on!

The building itself was due replacement but you cant replace the personal items that have been lost.

What I have noticed most of all is how little running is being done between the wickets to get 1s and 2s and 3s. They are all looking for the one-day shots.

Different Ashes I think.

I only caught the highlights but the atmosphere looked off the scale.

An amazing performance from Stokes, not least the way he suddenly changed tactics and executed when it was clear when he was running out of partners. Leach was excellent too in the part he played.

Bet the Aussies are regretting that completely wasted review.

they will but that doesnt excuse Wilson from yet another howler, he should have been removed from the rota after the 1st test performance.

an utterly crazy last hour in all aspects of the game, normally id say England will win the series now quite comfortably with the momentum shift but im not so sure, they can improve but so can Australia with Smith to come back in the side. the weather will be a big factor also with 2 games in September, still all to play for.

All that effort from Stokes in the last Test is looking like it's going to have been in vain.

Australia currently 356/5 with Steve Smith 168 not out. England have passed up plenty of chances to take wickets.

Steve Smith is an absolute machine. Other than all of his fidgety habits, which make him fun to watch anyway, he doesn't seem to misjudge a ball. Shame his reputation will always be tarnished because of some DIY supplies, but his dominance over this England bowling lineup is unbelievable.

Even in light of such extra curricular activities, he has to go down as one of, if not the very best batsmen of all time.

201 not out now..

Would imagine the English team spent much of the night doing a rain dance.
