Sadly closing. That's another shop gone from the High Street.

It is a shame as they used to do great shoe fittings for my kids in the annual pilgrimage to get new school shoes.
Where do parents go now for well fitting shoes for school?

Not sure there's anywhere in Kirkcaldy. Dunfermline still has Clarks and there's also Tiger Feet.

I think it's well and truly the end of retail in Kirkcaldy now. Still question why Fife Council (and others) have been so slow to acknowledge the decline of retail in the High Street.

15 years ago, i used to go to Kirkcaldy shopping al the time. Easy to park for free if you walked 5 mins, good selection of nice shops, quite nice to walk around, miss mauds for a bite to eat and drink.etc

Haven't been for years and years now as
just slowly lost its appeal. Feels like a slow decline for me and to be honest, going to Kirkcaldy for shops hasn't even entered my thought process for about 10 years now.

Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Perth. These sort of places have been torpedoed by the likes of Dundee and Livingston.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Way, way, waaaaay back, my Mum took me to Clarks to buy a pair of Commandos.

They were what the smart kids wore... well, at least that was according to a full-page cartoon advert called Clarks Commandos in one of my comics (probably The Valiant).

They were the best school shoes I ever had...

:)

Clinkards at the West end of Kirkcaldy High Street; far better than Clarks.
We tried them as we couldn't find anything for our daughter a couple of years ago and they were fantastic.
Bought her shoes in the Metro-Centre branch the year after and they were also brilliant and as English schools were back it was a relaxed experience!

It's weird how badly Kirkcaldy has been affected though. It's slap bang in the middle of Dundee and Edinburgh. Dunfermline is half an hour from Livi or Edinburgh so you'd think it would be more affected. I suppose it doesn't help when you stick a retail park at the top of the town with a big Next in it.

Same thing happened in Galashiels they built some big hitters on the outskirts and nearly every second shop in the high street had a for sale or to let sign

Yep it’s a pity about Gala, the High Street is really struggling. Lots of bigger shops/store’s out with. Better than Dunfermline I’d say.
