 Another year before Aussie-UK flights

Australians are unlikely to fly to the United States or UK on Qantas for another year, with its chief executive outlining that this could "potentially" happen "by the end of 2021".

"For some of our big destination like the United States and the UK, it.s going to need a vaccine given the high prevalence of the virus in both of those locations," Qantas Group boss Alan Joyce said at the company.s AGM in Sydney on Friday.

He said it was "going to take some time to recover international travel back".

Mr Joyce had previously said he did not expect that international flights, except for New Zealand, would resume before July 2021.

Grim news Oz. We should have flown to Brisbane last week for our annual break on the Gold Coast. Rescheduled with Korean Air for next March but all but given up hope of that happening.
Interesting to note the different approach from here in UK. The Melbourne/Victoria situation has been widely reported over here, accounting for
817 of the 905 deaths. Queensland has a population of 5.1million and has had 6 deaths. Gold Coast, the 5th largest city in Oz has had 1 death. The public health issue seems to have taken total precedence over the economy. Speaking to the likes of our accommodation manager and airport transfer driver it is carnage.
Will the upcoming state elections make any difference in putting pressure on Scott Morrison for a change of tactic?
