Very sad news. One of the great generation of commentators who are no longer with us - Bill McLaren, Peter O’Sullivan, Harry Carpenter and others. RIP Peter.

I saw him up close at Marbella Airport back in the `80s. He was immediately in front of me in the queue at check-in. He was dressed like the gentleman that he was. Suntanned, stylish and not a hair out of place. A smile for everyone.
I remember thinking that here was a very contented man with the best job in the world.
RIP Peter Alliss.

True gent , he had a knack of making you feel like you were part of the tournament, especially the Open.
RIP Peter

Was particularly brilliant with the late Alex Hay alongside him but that seems a long time ago now.
SKY's golf coverage has been miles ahead of BBC for a long while now but PA was one gem i guess they could never claim - not that they neccesarily would have wanted in fairness as Ewan Murray is just as good in his own way - however most folks memories will be growing up with his commentary of the Masters and Open each year when they were on the beeb.
RIP
