 Pars Fan Loan Fund
Topic Originator: parforthecourse
Date:   Sun 31 Jan 16:40

Over on the Payday Loan thread, a pars fan was loaned £100 for a while, interest free, by another pars fan.

It seems to me that if 15 or 20 of us got together and put up £50 or £100 each, we could give small short-term interest-free loans to other pars fans.

These are remarkably difficult times for some people, and a small loan could help a fellow par over a difficult period.

2 or 3 of us could run it. Doesn't have to be very complex, if it's small scale.

If you feel you'd like to be a fund giver, or want to help run the fund, then post here, and we'll see how it goes.

Cheers,

PFTC.

It`s a lovely idea. Might be helpful if anyone knows about the regulatory implications, if there are any, of setting something like this up.

Count me in for a donation, if this excellent initiative takes off. Obviously we want to help any Pars fan in temporary financial difficulty, but we wouldn't want to exacerbate their situation, so it would make sense to put a limit on how much they can borrow. i.e. further loans could only be given once the initial loan has been repaid.

Indeed. I have ideas about how this could work, and the points you've made are in my thinking.

I want to keep it very simple though, for both the people donating funds, and the people taking loans.

Let's see what other thoughts people have.

Cheers, PFTC.

I hate to be a spoilsport but I think DA-go`s post at 12.00 is good advice, especially if the Pars` name is being used.

You both have a point. It really depends how formal we want to be.

We don't have to use the club name, indeed you are correct, it would be better not to.

I personally see this working on a trust basis, with no contractual terms. No more detail required than can be stored on a spreadsheet.

All we need is an email asking for a loan from the borrower. A decision would then be made by myself (doesn't have to involve me in fact! I am happy to hand this idea to anyone who feels they have the time and energy to make it happen!) and a couple of others.

Money transferred to the borrower. Money paid back, shortly thereafter in full. Not in installments, not to take longer than a month. These are short term small interest free loans. We are not a bank, and we don't want to be.

I'm not going to set up a credit union. I can only imagine that would turn into a job, and I already have one. Maybe that means this is doomed to failure.

I am prepared, with the help of couple of others better known around here than me, to keep a record of applications for loans, to run it by the other couple of people "in office", to transfer the money to the borrower, and to receive it back.

Those of us prepared to put money up have to be prepared to lose it if people don't pay us back. That's why I'm suggesting 15 or so donors, putting up small amounts. If it doesn't work, we'd lose £100 max. Borrowers will repay though, because they are pars fans borrowing from other pars fans.

Keep it simple, and it'll possibly work. Tie it up in legal structure, and it'll never get off the ground.

Just my opinion.

Cheers,

PFTC.

This is a praiseworthy idea, and I would be open to the idea of putting in some funds, however what happens if someone borrows and fails to be able to pay it back? Do you just shrug it off as a loss, name and shame them on here, or send Adam Warlock round. And what would be the criteria for being accepted, would we be looking for references or guarantors?
We actually have a great wealth of experience and skills on here, perhaps what would be just as valuable would be the benefit of guidance, mentoring and advice on financial matters

Hi RSP.

In my opinion, shrug it off as a loss. No naming, shaming, or warlocks. No references or guarantors.

You make a good point about financial mentoring.

Cheers,

PFTC.

parforthecourse .... This is only my opinion and yes happy to donate if going ahead

But .... if the borrower needs £100 this month then the chances that he or she having a spare £100 to pay it back next month could still be a problem for them

I think the installment option would be more help and less worry for the borrower

£100 = 5 x £20 .... as an example

This is taking nothing away from your caring initiative and I hope you don`t regard it as such

I'm so full up with home schooling and work and whatnot that I'm not sure I can offer any form of help in terms of running the thing but count me in for contributing £50-£100 or so. Magnificent idea.

Actually my only constructive input would be there someone acts as a treasurer with their own bank account and try and avoid a PayPal middlemen so the fund doesn't get death by a thousand cuts in terms of pissy little fees.

Hi All,

To those who expressed an interest in putting up some cash for this idea, could you please email me at keith at projectbrown dot org, replacing at with @ and dot with .

This is just to try to get things moving along. If you include a mobile number, so I can set up a WhatsApp group, and your .net username, so I know who you are on here, that would be great.

Cheers,

Keith.
