Hate them.

**** on your car. **** on tour windows. **** on you when they have chicks running around and wake you up early in the morning.
Running amok in towns all over the country.
Protected species, as well.

I think what you`ve already said speaks for itself. One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the gulls will soon be here. And I, for one, welcome our new avian overlords. I`d like to remind them as a trusted dot.net nobody, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground chip shop caves.

Jeezo, seagulls :(

Seems to be a lot of chicks about just now. The parents make sure you know, swooping to protect their young. Feels extremely close when it happens to you.

Gulls can live up to 20 years.

I’m not a fan, especially at 5am when they wake me with their squawking :(

Mallaig pier, it`s the summer of 1966. I watch a fisherman sitting in the bow of his boat. By his side, he has a ball of string and the remnants of a loaf of Mother`s Pride.

He ties a large knot on the end of the string and kneads a piece of bread into a soft dough on top of the knot. Eventually, it is the size of a large marble...

The fisherman swings the string above his head and flings it high into the sky. A flock of seagulls give chase. The biggest and the baddest of them all wins the pursuit and instantly the ball of bread is down its gullet, reaching far into its stomach.

The fisherman laughs loudly and looks up at me...

"Would you like a kite, son?"

My first memories of Kirkcaldy - going to see the Pars at Starks Park in the late sixties - is of the seagulls flying everywhere. You knew you were at the seaside the moment you got off the bus.

Having lived in Aberdeen for 5 years I can vouch for that. Minding my own business outside Union Square eating a Sausage Roll one day when one of the buggers ripped it clean out my hand. Was an absolute whale of a size as well.

So make sure it's a clean kill and you can dispose of the body.

Did the kestrels (or whatever) not got the memo that seagulls were protected ?

Just curious to know why/how it`s legal to use captive birds of prey to eliminate them, but householders can`t shoot them ?

This explains it -

A popular method to get rid of seagulls can be to use falconry. These highly trained birds work to deter and disrupt seagulls from carrying out their normal behaviour. The constant fear of a predator in the area can scare gulls from the impacted location.

A flock of seagulls has staked a claim to the skies of Fife. And they are going to continue to feed here as long as there is food in the area. What we are dealing with here is perfect engines, eating machines. It`s really a miracle of evolution. All this machine does is fly and eat and make little seagulls. And that`s all.

You guys know there isn't a bird called a "seagull" , right?
The reason these birds are white is because when feeding at sea ,where food is more scarce, they are easy to spot and attract others to a food source. Hence where there is one there's a load
Ballingry for years was overrun with black headed gulls, but in recent years you don't see as much of them as they have been driven out the much larger Herring Gulls and Lesser Black Backed Gulls, both of which are very aggressive when protecting their eggs and young.

No problem with them. Yes. They defend their bairns as all animals do but I find in your house, they sit politely on your bin or shed and hope you feed them.
When you do, they will not bother you so much and get to know you each year they return.
I can't stand animal cruelty and some posters on here really get up my goat by advocating shooting them and other animals.
