Some ither benefits:

Playing hide and seek wi` specs and car keys etc. You have to look in really clever (or some might say, really stuuuuuuuuuupid places, e.g. specs underneath a book on the floor, or IN the bread bin, but only once.)

When you get to the checkout withoot yer effin` wallet, ye get lots o` attention fae the nice checkout lady and a` the nice folk in the queue that are thinkin`, `Pair aul` bloke, take yer time noo, we`re in nae hurry.`

Oh, and walking away from the cashpoint without the cash! (Luckily it was on CCTV and I got it back. Technically it`s theft, so I was asked if I wanted to bring charges. No, I said. I felt sorry for the guy who took it: that was probably just too much temptation for any mere mortal.)

Needed some cash so grabbed card from wallet and made that trek to the cash point my morning exercise. Wifie even older than me was beating me to it, so I accelerated, smoothly overlook, and with a flourish produced my busspass.

I have also boarded a bus and produced my bank card.

I have also been asked by Missus to get something when I was out, forgot what it was, didnae have my phone so went to call home from phone box and couldnā€™t remember the numberā€¦.

Funny you said that. I forgot something this morning but I can`t remember what it was.

When I was in primary three I must have had a really bad morning one day because I put my chair on my desk at the start of lunch break and toddled off home, fully convinced that it was home time.

Got all the way home and my mum sent me right back.

Nowhere near 60 but I`d forgotten the whole putting your chair up at the end of the day. Never really thought about it at the time but imagine it was for the cleaners.

Do you actually get anything at 60 beyond your bus pass? Do you get considered an OAP or does that not happen until 65/67/68?

It actually depends on which year you were born.I was born in1957,but can`t get pension, and benefits, until I reach 66.
What shocked me was, someone, who has never worked a day in their life, gets the same pension as me.Unbelievable !

How does that pan out ?

You need a minimum of X years (10 ?) of National Insurance contributions to qualify for any level of state pension.

There are some exceptions - such as people who are unable to work due to disabilities or medical conditions.

If you didn`t give someone who had never worked a pension then they`d just claim benefits surely? Pensions are considered a benefit.

Fair enough, for disabled and other people with illnesses. When I got made redundant a number years ago,I was told at dole office, that a genuine lazy sod,and I mean skivers, gets the same pension as me.Unless that`s changed.

The state pension is based on contributions, so somebody who has never worked wonā€™t qualify same as those who have clocked up the ceiling 35 years Nat. Ins. payments. However as suggested they may be eligible for other benefits.

Anybody can work past state pension age if they have the opportunity, regardless of it being deferred, or not.
