I realise things are bought wholesale so it takes time for price drops to reach the forecourts, but isn`t it weird how the prices go up quickly but come down so slowly. Is this them trying to make back the revenues lost in 2020?

Now, around $125 a barrel; petrol price nearly £2 a litre.

Exchange rates worked into costing.
Extraordinary stat via #WATO: in 2008, when oil prices peaked at $144/barrel, no one in Britain paid more than 120p per litre of petrol. Today, oil price is $113 but pump prices 186p litre. Difference is collapse in sterling from $2 to $1.20. Welcome to the Brexit.

Aye, but to be fair, the collapse of the pound mostly happened in 2008-2009 before Brexit was even thought about.
The prices in the USA are also out of whack with crude prices. I’m not sure what’s happening, but there’s definitely something else going on with refinery capacity and supply chains.

I was down near London and in the midlands last week. Our prices are higher than theirs.
Garage in Newton, across the water was £2.03 for diesel. That’s the first one up here I’ve seen, over that threshold.

Don`t use Tesco. They`re taking the urine.
If you use normal unleaded then ASDA is probably cheapest. For premium unleaded Shell, BP and Murco (Cairneyhill) are all cheaper than Tesco in Dunfermline who are robbing hoors.
Dollar/GBP hasn`t changed as significantly as prices. You`re talking a 10-15% decrease. Whereas fuel has gone up almost 50% compared to last year.
This is all a con so they can drop it down to £1.50p/l in a few months and act like they`re doing us a favour.

How come here I can fill up at bp dalgety bay for less than Tesco when historically here`s been a huge difference in favour of Tesco? They`re at it.

Shell is 182.9. Tesco is 189.9. I`m not sure if Shell Fuel Saver is any better than the Tesco standard stuff. I got good mileage on Fuel Saver but was doing longer trips than normal.
Tesco are 100% at it. The only thing they have going for them is they`re not ASDA.

Folk should be complaining about how terrible public transport is rather than how expensive petrol is.
We all knew that oil resources were under pressure: we have been hearing about peak oil and rising populations for decades and we knew that this was coming. That`s just the unavoidable outcomes. We also have the wee problem of climate change which means that even if we can keep using fossil fuels we probably shouldn`t. Private cars are not the future of transport.
Cars are ridiculously inefficient. They sit doing nothing for 90% of the time (most of them still taking up space on public roads) and when they do get used they pollute our air and maim our children.
You can get an annual ticket covering the entire Swiss rail network for less than the cost of an annual ticket between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and the Swiss trains will actually get you to your destination as timetabled, rather than a few hours later by bus.

I put a similar comment in the politics forum.
If you want to get people out of cars, the solution isn`t to put fuel prices up. The solution is to make public transport better. Pre-covid there were a whole bunch of us in Dunfermline and surrounding areas driving to our office in Edinburgh. Why drive? Well, it wasn`t because we enjoyed Edinburgh potholed roads, queues and idiots who slow down approaching the Queensferry Crossing! It was because the Scotrail service was regularly cancelled, dangerously overcrowded and expensive. I wrote to the transport minister after having numerous cancellations in the same week. All I got was a response from his assistant advising that my feedback had been noted.
We have a large public sector in Scotland. We have offices dotted all around the country in different towns and cities. Covid has shown us that we don`t all need to be in an office together, but sometimes people need an office as they don`t have a suitable space at home. Why don`t we look at local working in the public sector? Invest in shared spaces so you don`t have someone in Glenrothes driving to Edinburgh when there`s a spare desk along the road.

Tesco are notorious for price matching based on the local prices. It used to be cheaper filling up in S.Queensferry in comparison to Duloch. As already said, Tesco are "at it".

Asda are just as bad. When I stopped off in Carlisle mid July, unleaded was 177.9 yet it was 189.9 at Asda Dunfermline. Everywhere has been robbing blind for months. On the petrol price app as of today, Stewart and smart in Kinross are selling unleaded for 161.9. Handy for anyone up that area

I drove down through Wales to the brecon beacons on Sunday. Petrol in some of the small villages was as low as £1.62/litre. Back on the M5 it was nearly £2

I`ve noticed a wider disparity between the prices for petrol and diesel at some filling stations compared with what it used to be and can`t understand why that should be the case.
ETA - It would appear that diesel prices in the UK are more sensitive to what`s happening in Ukraine/Russia than petrol prices are and demand for diesel has risen as winter approaches as, unlike petrol, it is also used as heating fuel.

Admiralty road has always been more expensive for diesel due to the road it sits on. It`s currently joint third cheapest in the town for unleaded though.
The cheapest in the town, or more specifically, near Dunfermline is now almost always the Gulf in Camdean, which is currently 159.7 and 185.7 for Diesel.
Gocompare do a comparison site for cheapest fuel near you. You just select petrol or diesel and put in your postcode and it gives you a list of the top 5 or 6 places, cheapest first.
Nobody has come near Camdean prices in months.
