So they have Brian, what a pity we still have that cringe of an anthem.

England have The beautiful Jerusalem, NI the wistful Londonderry air and Wales the stirring Land of My Fathers. Why did we dump the jaunty Scotland the Brave for that doleful dirge?

From what I`ve read on social media a lot of folk love our anthem, and not just Scots. Some seem to think it being played on the bagpipes makes all the difference. Each to his own though.

Hate it with a passion. Defeatest shoulder chip dirgy pihs should never have replaced Scotland the Brave.

Its all Braveheart loving types that love it. Surely time to move on.
I think the thing I will enjoy most about indi is binning that dirge
In fact thats a good reason to vote indi.

Great performance form her and very emotional watching her crying as our National Anthem was playing. Our Anthem is loved worldwide but we do have those infected with the cringe factor alive and kicking at home who would be quite happy to listen to GSTQ instead.......

Superb performance. I was surprised by the timing of her announcement about running London in Oct given she was going to Oregon to complete at 5000/10000 and then same at Birmingham.

She spoke about injury after her heat in Oregon but really did bounce back with last nights performance. Unreal to dig as deep as she did.

I`ll think you`ll find that it is far from just `Braveheart loving types` that love it

Absolutely idiotic comment made by someone with only his opinion to go by..

`Danny Boy` aka `Londonderry Air` is the anthem of N. Ireland.

That’s the one for NI, also known as the Londonderry air.

Our one sounds like air being emitted from a coo’s erse

I think the Irish rugby team, which represents the entire island, has `Danny Boy` as its anthem too but I don`t know what the situation is with the two national football sides.

I`ve just listened to `Ireland`s Call` and don`t recognise it at all. After a bit of research it seems it`s played at Ireland matches away from home but at matches in Ireland two anthems are played - `Ireland`s Call` and `Soldier`s Song` (`Soldiers are we etc`). I could have sworn I`d heard `Danny Boy` played at 6 Nations matches but obviously not.

Who said they`d prefer if Scotland weren`t there?

On another matter, I see the Scotland team`s kit this time is in azure blue, which is the proper shade of blue of the Saltire, rather than the darker blue which the football and rugby teams traditionally wear.

England’s control?

Oh dear., nobody could be that dumb. There are plenty of statues around of Scots who were enthusiastic participants in building and administering the British empire. Try reading a history book even...

Clue is “British” ken?

Very few decent anthems tbh. Scotland`s sounds great through the pipes. There`s something quite powerful about them.

We tend to be quite harsh on ourselves. `Scotland the Brave` was often referred to as `a music hall ditty`. It`s always interesting to hear what outsiders think and `Flower of Scotland` seems to be generally well-received. The tempo it`s played at is all-important I think.

There was an enormous clamour in the late Seventies for "Flower of Scotland" to become the national anthem. It was a very popular choice at the time and certainly, when compared to the funereal "God Save the Queen", it was seen as a real breath of fresh air.

I remember going to see The Corries in concert at the Perth City Hall at that time. When Roy Williamson, who wrote the song, announced that they were going to play it, the audience erupted with huge applause. Everyone in the audience stood and loudly sang along with the duo. It was quite an enervating experience.

I wonder why it has lost its popularity in recent years?

I like Flower of Scotland, personally I would prefer Caledonia as National Anthem.
I could never, ever, consider singing God save the queen. Even as a child I hated that song. I was always getting in bother at Scouts for not singing it or saluting the Butchers Apron when it was raised.
Any one that can sing that nonsense deserves to be treated with the same contempt I have for the queen and her ilk. It`s an anthem for forlock tuggers.
England would be far better using Jerusalem or some Morris Dancing ditty

`Jerusalem` is a rousing tune but it does seem odd having an anthem that bears the name of a city in another country.

Some time she can run at that distance and also the speed she turned it up to at the end. That`s almost as quick as a half decent short distance sprinter!
