 Amazon closures (not Dunfermline)

There was a story last week about Amazon cutting its global workforce. Now reported that they`re likely to close older fulfilment centres with Gourock likely to go.

Quite surprised by this given how busy the Dunfermline depot is already. Surely this will put a fair bit of pressure on the site and there`s only so many lorries and packages one building can deal with. Any people with experience of working there have any insights?

The problem probably is that many of these fulfilment centres are not big enough anymore. The new distribution centres are getting bigger and bigger all the time.

1300 jobs across 3 sites being reported as the impact.

Moves then from 22 fulfilment centres to 19 I think.

Disappointing when a company that has used the now PMs tax freedom to avoid paying some taxes on the back of infrastructure build ends up closing places.

Edited to correct jobs at risk. Don't know where the 18k came from!

300 going at Gourock. I’d imagine many of those live in Greenock, a town already on its knees ?
Where will they find alternative work ?

Calls for SG to intervene. I feel for people in terms of jobs but the idea of giving Amazon more public money doesn`t sit right with me.

Surely they need more than one big base in Scotland though?

I thought they were all being offered alternative roles?

The 18k figure was the worldwide figure-at least that`s what I thought I read?

Yes, think I got caught by an intentionally misleading eye catching title.
