Robbie Robertson, lead guitarist of Bob Dylan`s backing group, The Band, has died aged 80. He was one of the most influential musicians of his generation and a very fine guitarist.

Robbie wrote the Band`s brilliant tunes, grew up on an Indian reserve, can`t be many rock musicians who have had a similar upbringing.
Will have a watch of Scorsese`s "The last Walt" tonight, one of the great Rockumentaries.
Local band Nazareth was named after "The Weight`s" opening line. Robbie had a remarkable resemblance to Duncan Ferguson imo.
A life well lived and a great legacy left.

The Band - one of my all time favourites. Robbie’s songs will endure - I was so sad to hear of his passing. The Last Waltz is one of the very best music films ever made. Thank you Robbie.

There are certain things I try not to watch too often so I can always find something new or remember something I had forgotten, The Last Waltz is one of them.
I always seem to forget just how good a guitarist Robbie was, he had an onstage duel with Clapton and you could see the look on Eric`s face that he knew he was up against someone special.
Levon`s sweet drumming and vocals, Rick Danko`s understated yet perfect bass playing, Richard Manuel`s piano, singing and stand-in drums, Garth Hudson`s extraordinary keyboards that even today sound futuristic.
The great cutscenes to monologues, the stories they tell and the clear camaraderie that only being in a band can bring.
Then the guests...
Muddy Watters, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan and Ringo and Ronnie Wood turning up at the last knockings all incredible performances beautifully crafted together by Martin Scorsese.
Watched it last night and I am fighting the urge to watch it all over again, incredible stuff.

Going to dig out The Last Waltz and give it a watch
I like his solo track "Somewhere down the Crazy River". Some great lyrics and imagery in that track

The Band one of the greatest bands of all time, defined Americana music. A Musical History by the Band 4 1/2 hours of fantastic music on Amazon Prime is a fantastic listen, not a bad song on it.
Robbie left a fantastic legacy RIP
