You know when you get something on your mind, but you can`t recall the exact details? And it refuses to go away?
I am driving myself mad trying to remember the name of the little old lady who used to sell tens of thousands of LPs of her playing the piano—nothing special, just plinky-plonk, tinky-tonk tunes everyone could sing along to.
In Scotland in the 1960s, you would have to go past rows of records by her and Semprini and Mantovani and the James Last Orchestra, then climb over a mountain of Alexander Brothers and Andy Stewart and Moira Anderson albums before a final obstacle course taking you through a valley full of Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, and Tammy Wynette LPs. If you survived that, you were emotionally exhausted when you finally got to the pop and rock sections hidden at the back of the store.
So help me guys... who was the wee specie-eyed wumin who sat on the piano stool with a glaikit smile, always inviting me to join her party??? It`s driving me crazy!
:)

In my mind`s eye, she wore glasses, but clearly she didn`t.
Thanks, Buffy!

OMG, I remember her. She was always known as Mrs Mills. We also had Winifred Atwell. That was what passed for entertainment then!

Winifred Atwell`s black and white rag was the Pot Black snooker programme theme tune if my memory serves. My daughter is learning piano and was gobsmacked when I showed her it on YouTube.

I`ve often wondered how `popular` musicians compare with `classical` musicians in terms of virtuosity, technique, etc? Could Clayderman, say, perform a Mozart piano concerto as well as Ashkenazy or could Ashkenazy perform at a pub `knees-up` as well as Mrs Mills?

"Jings vee .. It will be Russ Conway next !!"
I`m more of a Jerry Lee Lewis honky tonkin` merchant.
Mind you - I`m still trying to figure out what made Milwaukee famous ?

RC can play anything from popular to classical to the highest of standards.
I`m sure Ashkenazy likewise.

There ye go vee
The song`s title is a reference to beer, specifically Schlitz beer, which for many years was advertised with the slogan, "The beer that made Milwaukee famous."

Ooops - apologies - I was being naughty there.
I heard of Milwaukee`s brewing fame years ago - Pabst Blue Ribbon, for example.
Strong German connections in that part of the world.

How old are some of the posters????"
Well, Stanza, I doubt any of us here were 59 in 1978...

Imagine getting to work in a brewery like Laverne and Shirley !!!
Been there x 3 .......as far as I know, nobody else has been employed by Maclays (of blessed memory), Ind Coopes (as it was then named) and Williams Brothers.
It`s a dirty job................etc.

As a laddie I was more into the Regent petrol fake bullet holes transfer/slides that could be put on rear windscreens etc. Looked realistic until inspected close up - nearly got faither into a wee drama with a local Guardia Civil police officer on Costa Brava !!!
