 Every Lidl helps...

Except in Rosyth. Reported in the Courier that Lidl have pulled out of the deal to bill on the old Rosyth FC pitches. Shame as I hate driving through to Kirkcaldy or Cowdenbeath for Lidl.

Very similar Oz .. some things better in Lidl and Vice Verca

Aldi wines much better than Lidl

But you can sometimes get a cement mixer in Lidl .. not in Aldi

Lidl is better for tools and random crap, Aldi is better for booze and I`d say their fruit and veg is better too. Lidl bakery is also decent. The Aldis in Dunfermline don`t have bakeries but I think some other ones might now have them.

The entrance to Lidl in Cowdenbeath also doubles as the local skatepark as the car park has sunk so the entrance is a good few inches lower than the actual shop meaning there`s a nice quarter pipe on the way in!

Yes LA, there is a sizeable catchment area for a store there if you take into account the wealthy drivers just a few minutes along the road in Limekilns and Charlestown, the mix of locals who would walk/drive, get the bus up from the Dockyard, etc.
The choice is so limited just now.

Lidl replaced their existing store here with a new bigger one adjacent to Alloa`s ground a few years ago - we also have an Aldi.

Only missing a Sainsburys here !!!

On the contrary, when I last lived in Scotland I thought Sainsburies offered better value than Asda and especially Tesco.

Sainsbury`s isn`t fancy. I don`t get how ASDA is still considered cheap. I think it`s perhaps cheaper for branded goods but their own stuff is expensive in comparison to many other major supermarkets. I don`t know how anyone can use ASDA Halbeath. All the trolleys are knackered and the clientele dump them all over the car park. The pavement outside is all uneven and the canopy is absolutely manky. It`s a miserable shop filled with equally miserable shoppers!

I`d welcome a Morrison`s in Dunfermline. They almost came but then it all got canned.

Lidl is/was supposed to be going in by the Halbeath bypass but that work seems to have stalled. Probably a good thing for the town centre.

That was my poor attempt at having a wee jolly jape at vee and Alloa`s expense EET

Sainsbury is a good Supermarket .. my Favourite is Morrisons .. Also in Alloa next to a big B&M

The majority of Alloa must be employed by either ASDA, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons or Co-op! If you manage to work in them all you get the keys to the town.

Yes jake that is very true they are now probably the biggest employers in the area

But think back to when Alloa had Inde Coope brewery .. Carsbridge distillery .. (the biggest grain distiller in Europe) .. Robert Cunningham and sons Alva printer and bookbinder (where I served my apprenticeship) .. Paton and Baldwin .. Jaeger .. The Harlands .. Weir Pumps .. Alloa Glassworks .. and 5 mile up the road Kilbagie paper mill .. Kincardine power station and Longannet power station to name but a few .. I`m sure vee will remember more than me

Still disappointed the Talgo factory didn`t happen at Longannet. They keep pushing it for other uses but no-one seems interested.

You wouldn’t want Morrisons with their prices Jake 😂 I do agree that Asda is no longer cheap though - we could do a full shop in Asda and Aldi and be £40 better off with the latter…Morrisons, though, is no cheaper - can go in and buy 6 basic things and still cost you £20

Morrisons kept the Safeway idea…

Have a nicer ‘upmarket’ reputation and you can charge more for the same tat.

Worked when Argyll group first bought Safeway - changed all the big Presto stores into Safeway and profits went up.
When Morrisons bought them, the same idea continued.

We`ve got 2 Morrison mini markets in Lochgelly and a big Morrisons in Cowdenbeath.

They changed over when RS McColl sold them on.

Asda has gone the way we all fully expected after the brothers got hold of it.

Price gouging specialists and tesco have cottoned on that due to this they don’t need to reduce their prices.

Just look at petrol, Tesco and Asda have upped the profit margin they take bang in the middle of a cost of living crisis and both at exactly the same time.

Back to being drenched in my own negativity….

I don`t think it`s new that ASDA isn`t that cheap. It`s cheaper in branded goods whilst it`s normal stuff is expensive. I`m going to get pelters for this, but ASDA tends to attract a particular demographic who are particular that they get Coca Cola rather than own brand so the technique works.

Aldi have whacked their prices right up so I`m surprised they`re still cheapest.

Aldi are nowhere near the cheapest and their product selection is rubbish. Lidl are even worse. Our biggest Lidl and Aldi have about 5 lanes of food and 3 of rubbish goods nobody wants .
Tesco is poor with cheating club card prices which are the same as normal Asda prices.

I beg to differ Moviescot on the lack of choice at Aldi’s.

I’ve just finished my Christmas food shop with the most amazing choice from their store on Halbeath Road. Things I’d never had thought of for Christmas. Three bags of shopping just under £50.

"Asda has gone the way we all fully expected after the brothers got hold of it."

asda is truly terrible now. Loads of empty shelves, not able to get some of the basics of a weekly shop and very expensive.

Tesco. £87.42
Sainsbury`s. £87.79
Morrisons. £89.54
Ocado. £93.40

Excludes loyalty discounts.

For our larger analysis, including a mix of 134 branded and own-brand items, Asda was the cheapest once again this month (£328.15), followed by Morrisons which was £10.01 more expensive.

Supermarket Average trolley price

Asda. £328.15
Morrisons. £338.16
Tesco. £354.53
Ocado. £356.78
Sainsbury`s £360.26
Waitrose £369.80

Asda have consistently been cheapest on this list.
