I’ve had to buy a return for the bus the morn. ScotRail has suspended all of its train services from 19:00 on Sunday until after Monday rush hour as Storm Isha hits the UK.
If the trains aren’t running how on earth can the buses be?

A bus will be able to see an obstacle on the road and more importantly be able to stop

Yeah, so many rail tracks are tree-lined - high probability of trees on the track somewhere this evening.

What about high winds battering buses?
Transport Scotland advising people not to drive unless absolutely necessary

What defines “absolutely necessary” in these circumstances ?
A very open ended advice scenario.

I’d assume there are “safe limits” for buses - singles and doubles will be different. No idea what they are though!

I once saw a train at the bend where the train can be seen from the road at Dunkeld that had stopped within feet of a downed tree. I thought of the poor driver who must have had to stay in that cabin careering towards a tree across his window. Scary stuff.

Scotrail will be cognisant of that tragic fatal derailment up north a couple of winters ago due to heavy rain and wind etc.

A question from Down Under... do you think the weather has worsened in Scotland in recent years, or have the forecasting and reporting systems improved?

I wouldnt say its worsened, per say, but the seasons have completely gone. Yes its still cold in the winter and warm in the summer, but its currently late Jan and its like autumn today - above 10 degrees, wet and windy - last week it was -6 and frosted.
