He can`t. He can only pardon Federal crimes. This was a State crime.

Whatever the sentence ... it`ll be appealed for probably more than a year.

Much better that he doesn`t go to jail. That would just martyr him further. Big fine and a stint of probation will do nicely. This after all was the least serious of the many criminal cases he faces.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

He`ll be going into the other cases as a convicted felon, so that`ll play into sentencing decisions in future cases if he is found guilty.
He`s been convinced of a non violent crime and it`s his first offence, so unlikely to be custodial for this one I would imagine?

No. Biden gave them back when asked.
Trump did not, and tried to keep them until the FBI had to go to get them.

Custodial up to the judge at the sentencing. He may be made an example of with a year inside but it’s more likely he’ll receive a fine and community service.

Most presidents had some at home for various reasons.
No other presidents lied about having them, hid them so they could keep them, or showed them to friends.
He still has some, and there is a good chance so has Putin.
Biden probably should have been sanctioned for not having them stored securely.

Does anyone else think that these charges will if anything strengthen his route to the whitehouse ?
Heard two guys in the supermarket talking about it earlier today.
Their opinion , (both of them), was that trump is claiming that the whole thing is a witch hunt and "the man" (which i think means the Biden camp) is hell bent on destroying him but it could backfire as "mericans" (their words) dont like that kind of thing and like the "anyone can be president" according to their constitutional thingymabob .
I`ve had a wee think about what they were saying and I don`t know whether to laugh or agree.
I can see both sides ,from their perspective at least.
I don`t normally take the slightest interest in over the pond politics but I`m intrigued to see how this is going to play out.

I just had a look there just now and Trump is odds on to win the election.Make of that what you will. I didn`t see the odds before yesterday, unfortunately, to see what the impact was if any.

Only on a Trump vs Biden basis. Trump is expected to be the only candidate for his party. If you add up all the Democrats I think they are still ahead (although it is frighteningly close).

Republicans 4/5
Democrats 11/10 or
Trump 4/5
Biden 5/4
That`s only the bookies though and will be based on bets taken rather than any opinion polls, I imagine.

You’re right Parathletic. He is still leading in his supporters eyes.
From my understanding of it - and I’ve only just dipped my tootsies into criminal law - it’s the overhyped social media which made a meal out of a possible prison sentence for DT when in actual fact he’s unlikely to face jail time. A hefty fine (to run alongside his already high fine list from the EJCarroll case) and CPO (if they have those in the US) will be the order of the day.
It is entirely up to the sentencing sheriff to impose prison time - to make an example of him - on 11th July.
But this won’t make a blind bit of difference to his fanbase.

Think the other cases might have more impact if he`s found guilty Buffy.....seems crazy to have done this one first.
Was a little bit worrying to see a 1st generation immigrant from the USSR on Newsnight last night.....apparently her parents went to the US so she could be born there....makes you (or me at least!) wonder....

You should take an interest in this saga Widtink.
If Trump gets elected, he will withdraw support from Ukraine, and we will very likely need to go in. This is very likely to escalate this conflict.
He will tear America apart if he hasn`t already done that. They will be weakened. Europe will be at war, China will take Taiwan, and N Korea will invade S Korea.
Oh, and Israel will get it full scale, too.
Whether he wins it or not isn`t the only worry. He controls the GOP and, therefore, the House.
He will continue to disrupt and destroy regardless of the outcome.

Correct.
They are also poised to take a lot of Russian land if they crumble too.
