Ask any expat what they miss most about the UK, and the answer that you will often get is the good old British chippy.
And if, like all of us here, you have ever been to Fife, the chances are you will be familiar with the magnificent fish and chip shops that are to be found over in the East Neuk. The Anstruther Fish Bar is among most folk`s favourites and is undoubtedly mine.
This little video came up on my YouTube feed this morning, and I couldn`t resist. The guy checks out the Anstruther Fish Bar and the neighbouring Wee Chippy. His pronunciation could be a lot better, but to his credit, he gives them both rave reviews.

Don’t know when you were last there but its reputation has gone down in recent years. The Wee Chippy has a better rep these days when you ask people about getting one up that way. Their prices also don’t reflect the quality anymore - the fish has always been good, but they have terrible chips in comparison to most chippys.

Was at the Wee Chippy 3 weeks ago with Irish relatives, sit in fish tea, mushy peas, bread & butter with a pot of tea & homemade tartar sauce.
The fish was like a whale with crispy batter, chips cooked to perfection all for £14.50 per person.
We had to take some of the fish home with us as everyone was stuffed, our relatives said it was the best they had ever tasted! 5*****

Absolutely amazing chippy. Sometimes the queues on a warm sunny day can stretch around the bend but it is well worth the wait.

I know folk like to say it’s not as good as it used to be etc etc but it’s absolutely cracking. Easily in top 3 in UK

Most folk who say that have probably never been there, but just repeating what a pals grannies budgie said.
Apparently, the reason for the fish being so good is the prawns they feed on. More noticeable at certain times of the year when prawns are horny.
That`s according to one of my budgie pal`s grannies.

The Anstruther Fish Bar used to always be the best. Got to admit, their Chippy Brown Sauce is superb. Last time I was up there I tried The Wee Chippy for a takeaway, it was okay, although the kid behind the counter didn`t seem interested, playing on his phone, asked for the order, played on his phone a bit more, 10 minutes later forgot the order and had to ask again. It took ages to come, then asked what I wanted on it, then forgot to put the brown sauce on as requested, didn`t realise till I was back at the car, so had to go back. The fish was good, a decent crisp batter, but the chips were a bit soggy. It was not bad, but not as good as The Anstruther Fish Bar.
The one at Pittenweem was always the best up that way, but it burnt down.
We are quite well served for chippies in Fife, even the likes of Gennaros or Armando`s are streets ahead of anything Edinburgh has to offer

Yet to have a good chippy in Glasgow either but I’ve told there are good ones there 🤷🏻♂️
Last time I was in Aberdeen, a chippy was hard to get. Loads of good curry houses, 5 guys etc etc but never seen a chippy that was open.

"Yet to have a good chippy in Glasgow "
blue lagoon is known to be very good. One outside central was cracking on a previous visit (albeit i had haggis rather than fish)
Place up Victoria Road as well opposite the viky bar also a noteable mention.Served a single sauage to eat whilst waited on the rest of the order being made up .)
