The first time around it was mass hysteria, fear, isolation. This time around despite the variant being describe rather colourfully as "mega-spreadable" and other such doom suggesting headlines, I`m seeing the comment sections saying things like "not falling for that again" and "fool me once"
So what changed?
I don`t wanna go down like disco.

It`s no surprise that science given a bit of time gives a bit more understanding.
And it was a well discussed concept first time round that the more spreadable variants were generally less impacting.....same is seen with most diseases. If it kills people too quickly it`s quite hard to spread!

From vaccines and/or infection from other variants almost all of us will now have some COVID fighting anti bodies in our systems. Won`t stop you feeling lousy but will take the edge of it and of course if you have other health conditions it`ll have a bigger impact.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Quite simply what changed - we had a global pandemic and we reviewed how it was handled to make sure we`re now better prepared for any future pandemic.

I`ve had all vaccines offered to me as I have a compromised immune system, last one I got was number 11. I struggled the last twice and it took a few days to feel better.

Theres preventions in place now, unlike in 2019/20. Wont work for everyone but help relieve the pressure.
Also, the government lost all credibility during the pandemic that they now don’t have a leg to stand on with lockdowns - people will just ignore them now.

Sing happy birthday when washing your hands, only allowed out for 30mins a day, 2mtrs apart while shopping, all parks closed BUT Bojo and his mp’s were having a party…then you had nippy Niki still putting Scotland on lockdown weeks after Borris said all ok for England to open up??
Mon the Pars!

My favourite was standing 8ft apart from someone in the airport just to sit next to them on the plane.
Or when the nurses found time to choreograph and film dance routines whilst being on the front line.
Safe and effective was a hoot too.

My favourite was being furloughed for months, worrying if I still had a job to go back to, taking all the precautions & vaccinations then catching it months later after finally returning to the office cause some idiot at work didn`t wear his mask!
Wasn`t all bad tho - furloughed during a warm sunny summer meant being paid (80%) to sit out back with a book & a beer!
COME ON YE PARS!

One belter was the church/football debate - you could have 500 people sat indoors, together, praying and singing hymns bout you couldn’t have 500 at an outdoor venue that can hold 12,000 people…..
The work front was terrible for me - had gone self employe in December 2019 - no help from the government at first, then work slashed our shifts to 2 a week from 5/6 meaning a huge dip in income but still with the same bills.
We are one of the “covid babies” parents though 😂

One way in the supermarkets was brutal….especially if you forgot something then it’s all the way back round.
I had one bellend shout in the que at me “can you please stand back” I was about 3mtrs away from him with a mask on.
Then nippy Niki had her rules to wear masks near the end so drove from Scotland having rules to England to pick a dog up and they were all roaming about free….to coming back up here to wear a mask…

None of those "rules" were law, people simply don`t understand English, people followed like sheep without questioning.
Sad episode all round.

Imagine front line staff who had been absolutely battered into the ground trying to enjoy themselves in some ways.

During the pandemic NHS workers were national heroes and we constantly saw pictures of the public and government ministers applauding them for their efforts. As soon as the emergency was over and they were threatening industrial action to get a decent pay deal they were nasty trade unionists and enemies of the state!

Imagine having that sort of time, go, get a bunch of people and choreograph them.
That was and will remain utter bullsh*t.

Some NHS staff had a lot of downtime. A and E had to be staffed for example, but there were fewer sports injuries, drunk folk roaming the streets or construction workers falling off stuff so they were often quiet.
Porters tended to have less to do because folk needed to moved around less. But they had to be there, just in case.
Routine operations were stopped, but theatre staff had to be on-site in case there were emergencies.
Really, it was the folk in Intensive Care, and in the morgue, who were seeing the traumatic stuff whilst the others "merely" kept the hospital running whenever they had to deal with an emergency.

Hundreds of back office people were also working evenings and weekends to make sure plans were in place for all the immunisations and public health information. They went out their way but it was never seen as a competition. People did what needed done.
Just my opinion, but the various pay increases over the past few years have given most NHS staff in Scotland decent pay levels. Some will still be doing incredibly hard roles for little money but for me the people being forgotten about are carers. You get better pay working in Lidl but they`re working all hours making sure people are kept going in life. It`s a cliche, but we have too many chiefs and not enough Indians!
