 U-16 SM Ban in Oz.

Australia`s school holidays start today, as does the social media ban on children under 16.

While the aims of this drastic step are laudable, how is the Australian government going to enforce it? Would SM regulation not be a better way to protect vulnerable children?

I have no idea if it will work, but it will definitely be robustly undermined; you have to be careful when dealing with rhetoric around legislation which negatively impacts the bottom line of billionaires.

Ofcom put out some interesting stats last week about VPN usage increasing and then reducing following its changes.

Be interesting if it has a long term impact on porn usage.

Suspect I might need another plan for retirement income if my Only Fans channel won`t now take off.

It`s quite right to ban it. As ridiculous as it sounds, social media can be incredibly harmful, particularly for younger people.

As ridiculous as it sounds? I think everyone knows of the negative effects of social media on young minds. Although well intentioned I can`t see it being a success. Bolting stable doors and all that.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Lots of people don`t realise just how bad it is. I took myself off Facebook well over a decade ago as it was just unhealthy. People see a distorted view of other peoples` lives. It`s not all bad, of course. It`s great for keeping in touch with family and friends who are maybe far away. But for your average kid, it doesn`t help seeing that you missed an invite to a party or that some idiot in your class has shared an embarrassing photo of you.

I saw it with my eldest in the summer where one boy in his class kept kicking him and a couple of his mates out a WhatsApp group. He couldn`t care less, but other kids might have felt upset.

Even recently, my wife asked why someone I`d not seen in years has unfriended her. We haven`t seen him in a decade and she was fretting thinking she`d offended him 😂

I will say again - social media apps should be the same as gambling sites - to open an account, you provide ID and have 1 account in your name. If you are found to have more than one or fake profiles, you get banned.

How one has more strict rules on this than the other, when one is categorically more damaging on the social aspects in the world, is mind bogging.
