Thanks GG. That`s quite an incredible read.
If the talk of bonuses for detaining people are true then the ICE officers will really be looking forward to the world cup!
If FIFA were truly representing their members then they`d be challenging this now.

I don`t know about officers getting bonuses for kidnapping victims but the private detention gulag owners are cashing in big style. I wonder how big a cut Trumpski is getting.

How reliable is the article?

The Guardian retractions column generally covers pretty trivial details. I`d consider it a positive that they publish any errors found, however trivial, and most of what`s there would never be mentioned by other news outlets making similar errors. To use the fact that this column exists to make it appear that their reporting is unreliable is a nonsense.
To illustrate, the list from Friday https://www.theguardian.com/news/2026/feb/20/corrections-and-clarificationsis:
The Co-op quiche we mentioned in a taste test (The filter, 14 February, Feast, p19) is not made with “caged-hen eggs” as we said. it is made with free-range eggs. The quiche’s rating has been upgraded to four stars, from our published three.
An article about Warhammer said the game’s models were made up of “hundreds of pieces”. while the largest may have more than a hundred pieces, many models are made from only a handful (New model army, 19 January, p21).
The University of Exeter’s student newspaper is Exeposé, rather than Exposé (Reform’s threat to Bangor Uni is a grim sign of things to come, 13 February, Journal, p1).

I hope I`m wrong with this, but I genuinely believe something big will happen during the WC. A player from perhaps Iran, Haiti, Columbia etc will be detained by ICE and deported/held in a detention centre due to a visa mixup.
Previously, at any other tournament, any discrepancy over visas would be handled quietly between the organisers and diplomats present. Now tho, there`s the real possibility of watching Iran v Egypt, and the game being interrupted by ICE agents storming the penalty box and detaining the goalie live on tv.
Like I say, I hope I`m wrong, but even the fact that there`s the slightest of possibilities it could happen is frightening

All players and supporting staff etc.will have been throughly vetted beforehand.
Ordinary punters need to pass the ESTA application - there will be much more scrutiny on official team squads.

I don’t think I’ve found a politician that hasn’t lied. I mind my dad used to say that the tories don’t care about you and never forget it.
Well now that I’ve looked into each of our political parties north and south of the border I’ve came to the conclusion that none of them care. Certainly none of the main people in each party. It’s all a drive for power, clicks, likes and ultimately votes. The SNP annoy me the most because they were the ones that had a real opportunity to make a difference and they’ve turned out as bad.
I really don’t know who I’m going to be voting for in the future. Who ever believes in a smaller government and greater individual freedoms but at the moment that’s none of them.
It probably should have been the Tories but they aren’t actually acting like the tories anymore. They’re closer to new Labour than a conservative political party.

I don’t know what the Guardian having to write apologies and corrections on a regular basis has to do with an observation about people thinking their own personal beliefs are greater than others so there’s no point in voting but at least you’ve got that out your system 🤷🏻♂️😂

Im not sure you can say the SNP don’t care entirely. They have more good policies (a slightly higher tax setting for more free products for all) than bad (pushing gender politics in policy).
You also need to remember that the Scottish party in charge, whoever it may be, is hamstrung by the Barnett Formula. If we had complete control of all of our own finances, we may just be ran better no matter who is in charge.
Corruption in politics is a completely new level these days though, but again the SNP corruption is nowhere near the levels of the other parties - and anyone that thinks Reform will be better with this is completely delusional.
Got to remember that corruption and incompetence are also different entities.

Are there any devolved issues where UK solutions would be preferable to Scottish ones? What`s wrong with `putting a tartan ribbon` on prescriptions, bus passes, tuition fees, the Scottish Child Payment, Scottish Water, Scotrail, etc? The problem is the UK government doesn`t want devolution to work because it might give Scots the idea that independence might work too. Look at the way they scuppered the Deposit Return Scheme. It may have been flawed but there were plenty similar schemes working elsewhere and it could have worked with a bit of cooperation. We`re still waiting on the UK-wide scheme of course.
And we're still waiting to hear what the democratic route out of this 'voluntary union' is.

I`m talking about systems and processes. Things like digitising council and NHS services and the NHS app. Scotland has wasted millions on its own version of an NHS app and it`s utter crap.
I`m not suggesting we don`t do our own thing where there is specific, local requirements, but why spend a fortune reinventing the wheel?

Dave_1885 I actually agree with some of your points however, I think the excuses they use are well past their sell by date. It feels like pantomime to me. As much as I absolutely love pumping England, England isn’t to blame for all of Scotlands problems.
And as much as I’m happy to pay a bit extra tax so we can all benefit, I’m not seeing enough positive change or benefits. At the moment it looks like more tax = a bigger government. To me that’s not really a positive thing. They can’t even build a ferry. The at-least £200,000,000 Glen Saxon is again out of commission until March 6th. There’s the ongoing SNP financial scandal, public service failures and warnings the NHS in Scotland “cannot be sustained in its current form”, the widening poverty related attainment gap, we are building fewer homes than we should be, Angela Constance misrepresenting expert advice and being accused of misleading parliament regarding the grooming gangs scandal etc etc it just goes on and on.
But according to Big JS it’s alright because rich kids get free university education (that costs the tax payer nearly £1billion a year), my daughter got taught how gay guys do the boogy woogy and my son was taught it’s okay to think he’s a girl when he was 4. Thankfully he told them he wants to be a fire engine when he grows up eh! We once had a world leading education system. It’s been absolutely torn to shreds under SNP leadership.
I’m just going to vote for who I think will be most competent but I promise, it won’t be the SNP.

If anyone is interested you should look into tie.scot - that’s who tried the whole gender chat with the my wee man. Thankfully he was absolutely clueless about whatever it was they were saying.
But to quote their website “In primary schools, LGBT Inclusive Education will typically begin with discussions about diverse families, including storybooks that feature same-sex parents. Other important topics throughout primary are addressing prejudice and bullying, and challenging gender stereotypes”
An overview of LGBTQ teaching from the education.gov.scot website 👇🏻
1. Early primary (around age 4–7, P1–P3)
At this stage the focus is mainly on kindness, respect, and different types of families, not detailed discussions of gender identity.
Typical examples:
• Storybooks showing different family types (e.g., two mums or two dads).
• Lessons about treating everyone fairly and not bullying others.
• Discussions that boys and girls can like different things and stereotypes aren’t always true.
Some teaching materials also explain:
• Sex is assigned at birth.
• Gender relates to how someone feels about themselves.
I’ve only highlighted the stuff about what my son was taught at that age but he’s older than that now.

I for one am massively offended that the Scottish Government is telling LITTLE GIRLS that they don`t have to be typists or dressmakers. How very dare they. It weren`t like this back in my day! Girls knew their place. They`d be working in the shop or in the typing pool until one of us blokes offered to marry them, and they`d be grateful!
Honestly, all the Tie piece explains to Primary School kids is not to be homophobic little wankers and that it`s fine for girls to be "tom boys" or boys to play with dolls. This is very much needed and I can give an example - a girl in my son`s class has always been a "Tom boy". Plays for a girls football team and has always been more rough and tumble than the girls in the class. They`re at high school now and my son informed me some of the kids have been calling her a "tranny". The parents of the kids involved have been made aware so hopefully that`s the end of it, but why kids in 2026 are still using "tranny", "gay" and "paedo" as every day insults is concerning.

I can tell by your response, you’re either ignorant of who the government used for guidance on trans policy or worse-lying to feel like you’ve won an argument on a forum.
LGBT youth Scotland. Child S abuse cases. There’s a nice wee Google search for you to start.

I honestly don`t see what from the above you can disagree with without being an outright bigot, maybe you can explain in more detail but none of those bullet points are anything I`d have the slightest issue with, they seem quite positive and fairly soft
Who wants to explain sex and gender to 4 year olds? What is there motivation? Why do they use language like “sex is assigned at birth”? I could go on but if you can’t understand concerns in those questions, it’s not me with views that should be questioned.

Focus on kindness and respect- those evil monsters 😱
You missed out the gender stuff and sex assigned at birth stuff.
You also don’t mention who came up with the policy and why they’re questionable people to be advising on policies relating to primary school children - never mind primary school children’s sexual education.
Remember, we’re discussing 4 year olds.

You couldn`t pay me to go to Trumpnamistan.
Perfectly valid but why did you choose to merge Trump with Pakistan?

I`ve actually worked with LGBT Youth Scotland and they were really helpful and informative. Aware there have been scandals and that is inexcusable, but doesn`t relate to the guidance provided.
Now, can you provide details on which school(s) and what it is they`re teaching 4 year olds (allegedly)?

So, based on the example cited, you`re against explaining to children that some people are LGBT and some people may have two mum`s/dads and that they don`t need to confirm to gender?
What would the alternative be? Whispered conversations in the playground about how little Johnny has two dads and his sister is a weirdo because she wants to be a civil engineer?

Why are you so concerned about what children say in a playground you’ll make up wee stories that manage to tick all your made up boxes? I’ve used an example of something I didn’t agree with then gave you links to the resources showing it wasn’t made up or something I heard from someone else. I could even give you examples of criminal behaviour towards children from people within organisations like TIE and LGBT youth Scotland. I’m 100% certain you either know about it or could find out about it but you’ll still be here making up false pretences.
Up to you like

Why are you having such a reaction to this? I can understand the concern with serious issues within the organisations creating the materials, but those people aren`t the ones delivering the support materials to kids, nor are they likely to be the ones writing them.
I`m struggling to find what`s so problematic with letting kids know that some people have parents who are the same sex or that boys don`t have to be builders and girls cleaners.
