Some horrendous images are coming through from Nepal, where flash flooding and mudslides are destroying large swathes of land and property. Many hundreds, likely thousands, will have died in these incidents. The videos show how difficult, indeed hopeless, it would have been for people to try to escape.
The floods are thought to have been triggered by an ice-rock avalanche from a glacier that caused a downstream surge.
One video shows the border post between Nepal and China—a large, solid construction—being completely overwhelmed by the scale and force of the flood surge.
