Our bench doesn`t look up to much, whereas theirs has a fee that can make a difference; hopefully it doesn`t come to that. Good to see Hamilton back hopefully marshaling things, and now Jakubiak has the scoring monkey off his back let`s hope he can go on a run.

Yes and no. A goalie that commands his area doesn`t end up in that situation.

Terrible defending but when you aren`t confident in your keeper you tend to do that, then when the keeper can`t hold on to a basic ball into his midriff you`re always toiling. No point starting games brightly if you concede the first chance you can.

And now Fisher is gubbed. Comrie to RCH and O`Halloran to RWB presumably.

That is a pretty strange sub if you`re not going to go to a back four. Breen in the middle and Hamilton on the right of the back three is putting two players into positions they aren`t too comfortable with.

Was always going to need a bit of individual brilliance or a mistake to get us back into it, and it waa a superb run and hit from Summers. Dabrowski possibly a little slow getting down and clearly has a leg or knee injury so we should be trying to shoot from distance more often IMO. Still worry about the defensive side of things though. Breen looks well dodgy at the back.

Raith keeper went down in the last moments of the arbroath game, he`s not taking goal kicks so surely our squad must be aware of this,

No point having a goalkeeper if he can`t command his area and no point having centre halves who can`t track runners at set plays. We`ll concede almost every week if that carries on.

Poor in both boxes, can`t attack the ball in defence or attack. No cutting edge all season, plenty huff and puff but minimal end product.

Ridiculous all the injuries we are having.

Raith goalie chucking the ball into the Norrie at full-time, what`s that all about?

Ok , not the result we wanted but the players can`t be faulted for effort.
Our main midfielders having to play in defence. Both centre halfs injured and the only real threat from bench having to come on so early leaving us with VERY limited options.
Some very harsh criticism on here imo

100%. We DO need some signings though. We can`t rely on the young guys to come in. We also need to look at how we managed an entire season with few injuries to suddenly having injuries in every game. What`s changed?

We are a hard watch at the moment !
Same old story every week ,Teams do not even have to play good against, Week after week we cannot do the basics right ,
Most games we keep giving other teams a goal of a start and then it is uphill from there , another Home game lost , no use running about and putting the effort in if we do not have players that can put the ball in the net or at least do the basics and defenders that don`t give Goals away Effort alone does not win Games , Rant Over !! Disappointed again that is 3 Leagues games we have played Raith and lost every game
With what I am watching at present I don`t even fancy our chances on Friday night against Queens Park , at present we are dire , the teams above us are now pulling further away from us or Teams below now catching us up
We need to get the finger oot!
Anyway I live in Hope as Always !

We probably had enough chances to score more than one. Our defending is very questionable but we never expected the injuries to ace players at the back. Breen was sad today. And their 2nd goal was not about height - it was determination.

Sometimes it does come down to who wants to win it most and they did. The 2nd half they defended after their 2nd and gambled that we werent going to score.

Raith had a one-legged keeper that couldn’t kick the ball and couldn’t dive to his right. But we only hit the ball to his right once all game and didn’t put him under pressure at all. Terrible that none of the coaching staff or players were smart enough to try and exploit that really obvious vulnerability.

Poor performance. Lost two awful goals that were highly preventable, so only ourselves to blame.

Formation didn`t work and did nothing to change it.

Can`t see where our next win is coming from. Last 12 league games - 3 wins, 3 draws, 6 defeats. That`s verging on relegation form.

Injuries have hurt us, but we`re not the only ones in the league so we can`t use that excuse - and our starting lineup today should have performed better than they did.

Big game on Friday, lose or draw there and I`m worried. Win and we`ve at least got some breathing space.

Well, like it or not the wee team are top of the league.. They shouldnt have won today but they did, and have won every game against us but we are fourth. No reason to talk about relegation.

It seems that we are just shy of the top few teams in the league. Yes we`ve been unfortunate with injuries ( but it happens we had 5 operations alone one season not too long ago) but that`s what you build a squad for. We`ve never had a settled team and genuinely don`t know who the first XI is.
There`s enough in this pars team when things settle down to be competitive in the play-off`s should we make it there.

I`m going to be magnanimous in defeat, I thought Scott Brown was excellent today. A proper captain`s display, an inspired signing of a 29 year old from a team relegated from League One.

Par 91 is Absolutely spot on.

It was an obvious ploy for us to take advantage of their keeper’s glaringly obvious vulnerabilities but we, inexplicably, didn’t seem to do it. The Rovers keeper looked like he should never have been playing today but we weren’t smart enough to take advantage.

Instead of playing the ball into Jak the ball should be in behind, turn the defence and force them to play it because they wouldn`t be using their keeper. Naive.

We’re really not far off rovers. Injuries are hampering us incredibly.

Must be incredibly frustrating for Mcpake when you have nothing to change a game, and I imagine it also impacts the ability to change shape etc.

Mehmet is an absolute $hit3bag and if we’re going to sign anyone I hope it’s a goalie

Surprised that Mehmet is getting the blame for the first. Point blank shot that hit off him, but let`s ignore the stupid foul by Chalmers in a dangerous place, our general inability to defend the middle of the box, our defenders letting the attackers get ahead of them and have zero anticipation of a rebound......again.

Thought we were a shambles from back to front today. Deniz cost us again but hardly surprising when you saw him in the warm up. Our smallest player on the pitch with a fractured cheek was the only player winning headers today really speaks for itself.

Their goalie was injured and our goal came from hitting it low and hard then we decided that the tactic wasn`t useful and attempted to cross the ball in when we hadn`t won a header all afternoon and the crossing was atrocious.

I thought Sutherland looked okay when he came on but I think it`s too soon for him which leaves us with strikers who don`t take enough chances. Whether that be due to the style of play crossing from Edwards and Comrie or just the overall lack of quality.

Really poor stuff although Raith didn`t look streets ahead which shows the poor standard of this league.

What keeps the Rovers ahead of us is the organisation of their team and the fact that they have depth. We make far too many stupid mistakes that cost us dearly and if we could eliminate that we could be competitive.

We equalised completely against the run of play and were on top until the beginning of the second half. After Rovers scored, we had more of the ball but we just don’t look dangerous enough with it. Far too many wasteful crossed balls and the ones that looked dangerous, no one takes a gamble in the box! Jakubiak was unlucky with one today but the infuriating thing was that we refrained from testing a keeper that was clearly struggling whereas they knew to put in the middle of the box because Mehmet cannot come out for crosses

OK, here’s a contrary view. How is it that so many of our “supporters” have nothing positive whatsoever to say about the team? Firstly, the collective effort shown today was, IMHO, absolutely outstanding. Players gave 100% commitment right up until the final whistle. We are where we are with the horrendous injury situation - and Fisher is the icing on the cake - but although we’ve got players having to switch roles right, left and centre, we still seem able not only to compete but to seriously give better teams a hard game; and in the current set of circumstances that’s as much as you could expect. This is a team in transition; a team that is in the process of building. I agree (believe it or not) that there are some players who are probably not performing to the level we require, but we know that the board have a long term vision to create something special, and when you’re working on a tight budget - yes, even a MASSIVE club like Dunfermline Athletic has to make the pennies count - you cannot just splash out on replacing personnel willy-nilly, even if you can find them. Personally I think the Jakubiak / Wighton partnership shows great promise. Jakubiak was unlucky today with his shot off the bar, just as he was unlucky last game with another couple of missed opportunities - on another day these could easily have gone in. Wighton’s not a showy player but you can only watch and admire his many clever touches in build-ups outside the box: I believe more goals will come from him once (if ever) we have a settled team. Summers looked good today though faded second half. Joe Chalmers impressed with some of his long crossfield balls, even if some of his shorter passing was dodgy. Otoo is a brilliant prospect - much to learn but what a powerhouse. Hamilton epitomised the diehard spirit: despite the handicap of his mask he certainly didn’t shirk his contribution. And so on ………
As you can see I’m currently a glass half full man. This hasn’t always been the case in the past. I didn’t expect us to make the playoffs this season so if we do that, in my book, will be a bonus. I’m not saying, write this season off by any manner, but my honest expectation is that good things will come in the next few years.

Otoo again has shown that he is raw yet very capable at this level, a stick on for YPOTY and probably in the top 2 with Hamilton for our best player this season.

Very impressed with jakubiak probably one of the best at the club with the ball at his feet. Can see why mcpake was happy to sign him.

With this being a squad that`s getting built, our weakest area is GK, we do also need a striker.

You would think that our defense and midfield will improve naturally when the injuries subside.

Well that was something approximating a football match.

Thought we started quite well and had a few decent balls across the six yard box but Wighton - who I like as a player - wasn`t on his toes either time to get on the end of it. Then we let Robers back into it and with their first real attack they scored. It was a catalogue of errors really - poor by Chalmers in getting sucked into making a poor challenge, terrible by Breen I think for letting the initial header to come in and woeful from Mehmet spilling a regulation shot. For about 15 minutes after that we looked totally lost, it was like watching a schoolboy game where people don`t know where to run, where to stand, when to try and win the ball and when to jockey, etc. Raith wasted this period by shooting from distance when a better ball in would have seen them probably score a second.

Out of nothing, we get a goal and you thought maybe we`d get back into it. Sadly any momentum was lost by the morons in the crowd - pyrotechnics are part of the game now it would seem whether people like it or not, but throwing them onto the park is idiotic. To then wait until one was removed before throwing another one is is just plain moronic. The rest of the half was quite even despite having to change personnel with Fisher very unlucky to be taken out by a combination of Vaughan and Hamilton and the change of shape that went with it.

The second half started quite interestingly - they didn`t change their keeper which a few folk were maybe expecting and they were wasting time quite early on. We looked decent enough going forward but still looked dodgy at the back and when the winner came it was about the worst goal you could possibly concede. A decent enough ball in from a cheaply conceded corner, zero marking at the near post and the keeper rooted to his line. Basic stuff. It was only surprising that they didn`t do it again a few minutes later. Bizarrely they then sat back and allowed us to get back into it and were clearly worried as the time wasting became more and more ridiculous as time wore on. Sadly we don`t have any players with any footballing intelligence - with Dabrowski injured we should have been peppering his goal with low pot shots off the greasy surface and swimging in cross balls under the bar and putting some robust challenges in. Instead we got the usual slow painful side to side stuff, with the lack of movement at times laughable. Chalmers, Otoo or Hamilton would have the ball 30 yards from our goal and all our players were static. Occasionally Moffat or Summers would make a run but the ball wouldn`t come; sometimes Jakubiak showed for it but didn`t get a good ball to work with. We got a bit of joy down the flanks but Edwards` final ball was almost always terrible and the few decent balls from the right were dealt with without too much bother. Sutherland added a bit of movement late on but it`s a big job asking for a youth team player to try and make such a big difference. Jakub

Great post Yorkiepar. Some very harsh critics on here although probably still fresh from the game.

Our squad is getting hammered on an hourly basis with injuries and players are being asked to move position sometimes twice in a game. Subs are being used to plug gaps instead of them coming on to influence a game or change formation.

I`d be getting fired in about them if that was our first 11 and their was no effort or commitment but that`s just not the case. I`m as frustrated as the next Pars fan losing today but a bit realism is needed here.

We have to bring in 2 or 3 bodies in January. I get that we only wanted "quality over quantity" in the summer but things are way different now. We need numbers.

I think it would be incredibly harsh for any fan to criticise the work rate that would be my view anyway.

However they had a goalie clearly injured and we didn`t test him nearly enough and that`s the disappointment for me.

Our home form is yet again simply not good enough.

It feels like we are likely to try and scrape by until the end of the season and hopefully pick up enough points to stay up.

Wighton was like playing with a man down. No movement and no attempt to get involved at any point, and for his pathetic dive on the halfway line. Jakuibak is expected to beat 3 boys on his own and do something, needed support today. Back pass after back pass today absolutely pathetic to watch. Rovers first to every 2nd ball and they actually have a midfield that can move the ball quickly. Wonder what that feels like

Not a lack of effort from the team but we cannot continue to carry passengers like Wighton and Mehmet on a weekly basis if we want to progress, they are simply not good enough and contribute next to hee haw. We create next to nothing almost weekly, totally toothless and struggle to break teams down at east end who frequently get a goal.

Both goals avoidable.
Hard to defend free kicks inside your own six yard box when facing your own goal. Goalie needs to come and take these. The starting line needs to be on the penalty spot from the position the free kick was. The goalie’s starting position should be on the six yard line.
He can then come and claim it

Second goal is about desire to get to the ball first, but again, starting position should be goal side. Ie. The attacker should be ion your right shoulder from a corner on the left

Otto was brutal today and his crap pass caused the injury to our player…
Chalmers just slows the play down when we attack but he did work hard at defending… maybe put him at CB in the next game😅
Wighton and Jabijuke or however you spell can’t play together up top as on many occasions there was no movement…. Plus Wighton came of with a hamstring problem.
The team and I appreciate the injuries is just disjointed at the moment that 3 or 4 players even on short term deal are needed so we can get boys back fit.

Possession 45 - 55
Goal attempts 13-12
On target 5-5
Off target 8-7

Aside from Otto getting caught in painfully slow possession that directly resulted in Breen being injured trying to make up for it. His athleticism flatters to deceive sometimes and his decision making is questionable.

I agree, hence the phrase very raw. And he doesn`t win the amount if 50/50 his size would suggest.

These things will be coached into him. He is a future premier league player (scotland) English championship.

When he carries the ball forward from Cb it makes us look threatening, then he either picks the wrong pass or the next pass after his breaks down play.

But the potential is there and its plentiful.

Left sided Cb/CM he will be attracting attention,

Stats can be used to show any angle you want. We scored with a shot from outside the box and then reverted back to a tactic that hadn`t worked all game. Edwards hit about 4 or 5 crosses half way up the Norrie. The only stat the counts is the final score and we were guff.

I`d love nothing more to come on here praising a win or a good performance but the fact far too many struggled to control passes or make simple passescin general is a recurring issue over the course of the season so far.

Mcpake won the league at a canter with players who we were all told by everyone at the club a group good enough to win the league above. He had a chance to get rid of the deadwood at the start of the seaso. And unfortunately it looks like he has kept to much of them giving them new deals.

The injuries we have had are unpredictable and seem to be recurring far too often. BUT we still have players we were told were good enough to win this league before and again players like wighton and Mehmet have proved they aren`t.

It would be really churlish to criticise the collective team effort or desire. We gave it everything but everything isn’t enough without a bit of know how in the key areas back to front.
Deniz can’t be faulted today. He was never going to hold onto the ball at the first goal from close range.
Rovers can feel they just scraped it today but were by no means streets ahead of us.

That somewhat reminded me of that Raith team under McGlynn the year we won the league in that they looked relatively average on the evidence i`ve seen yet somehow keep grinding out big results week after week so must be doing something right.

Thought Brown for them was immense with his closing down, pressuring our boys and thundering into challenges even off the back of a yellow card - he must have racked up some mileage for amount of ground he covered today.

As for us was next to no width. Edwards and Comrie are steady eddies defensively but offer very little going forward, i appreciate that if Edwards did more going forward then he wouldn`t be playing in the Scottish Championship as the rest of his game is spot on.

Without natural wingers then more onus on stuff coming through three in the middle which was lacking apart from Summers. Moffat i don`t think is a centre mid and that neat wee trick he has taking the ball spinning on the half turn with his first touch seems to have been snuffed out / identified by opponents now. Badly miss Todd in that respect so hopefully he gets back in soon and back to full fitness.

Otoo a strange one too, said before for such a physical unit he isnt`t the best in the air, fortunate he is so versatile as big bonus but still see him long term as a left back.

Should have been coming off his line, puching it at worst and cleaning out anyone or anything in his road. Glued to his line as usual.

To me it had a feeling that we just came to the end of the road as regards picking up points despite all the injuries and changes to the team. They`ve generally done well as a team to keep going and be competitive given the circumstances, but against one of the better teams it just felt like a step too far today.

We were on top in the first 5 mins with 3 half chances but that quickly changed. We do struggle for height defending set pieces (and worse without Lewis McCann) so the ball in was probably a good one. Would have to see again to see if Mehmet should have been taking the cross, but I don`t fault him for not holding the initial shot which must have been from about a yard away from him.

We were really struggling between 1-0 and 1-1 with our goal coming from nowhere. Nice ball through, a good run and a good finish. From then til half-time it was quite even, but the Rovers probably looked slightly more likely to score as they caught us with quick breaks.

After it went to 2-1, we didn`t really look like scoring again. The closest was Comrie`s header then the shot off the bar shortly after, but as we`ve seen often enough recently, mistakes just stopped us from getting a spell of sustained pressure and the chance of forcing a mistake. Pretty similar to the first game in August, where they got a lead and managed to hold onto it. Had we equalised their fans would rightly have been unhappy at how their team became so passive and sat so deep, but we just didn`t quite have enough.

One thing that did annoy me was that we didn`t leave a forward up when they were taking their goal kicks. Craig Wighton was always looking to stay level with the third last defender rather than just staying on the edge of the box. The main problem with a player other than the keeper taking goal kicks is that you play a forward onside if you lose the first header but we didn`t use this at all.

And if the utter fanny who chucked the second smoke bomb on the park, just as the game was about to restart, could either p*** off or stick their next smoke bomb up their erse instead, that would be appreciated.

Cammy, I was taking issue with your description of us being a shambles from back to front. Trust me, I’ve witnessed far, far worse performances than today.
I thought we deserved a point

If you can`t defend your box you don`t deserve anything from the game. Our tactics considering our poor record with balls above shoulder height to lump balls into the box (when they were still in play) was crazy.

I don`t agree that there`s not much between the teams. We`ve played them five times now, drawn one and lost four including all three at home. They are much more resilient than we are under pressure and they move the ball more quickly and purposefully when in possession. There is a hardness to their play that we lack. To give them a game I think we`d have to have Bene, Todd and KRH available and on form. Bene would give us the resilience and organisation, Todd the dynamism and touch of the unexpected and KRH would get behind their defence which we sadly lack playing with wing backs.

Our defending for both goals was not good. Blame the keeper but basic defending requires you to be in front of the striker and ball.
Midfield don’t scan and look for space to receive the ball then open up the body to attack with the ball.
Up top we are a nightmare as Wighton drops in but there is no attacking from the wingers.
It’s just basic methods in football and need coached all the time imo.

A shambles from back to front ? Really ?
I’m going to suggest you were watching another game

I don`t know who paid you on the commentary to say we defended well today.

It was our inept defending that cost us at least a point. 2 set pieces that were a shambles.

100% effort yes but school boy defending from the whole team even McPake in his post match highlights this.

You may have got the wrong end of the stick, Nick ?

My post from earlier :-

Both goals avoidable.
Hard to defend free kicks inside your own six yard box when facing your own goal. Goalie needs to come and take these. The starting line needs to be on the penalty spot from the position the free kick was. The goalie’s starting position should be on the six yard line.
He can then come and claim it

Second goal is about desire to get to the ball first, but again, starting position should be goal side. Ie. The attacker should be ion your right shoulder from a corner on the left

Raymie,
He nails it as there is no basic defending the ball the of course the keeper is to blame.

Yes socks, thars another example of the lack of game intelligence I was ranting about last night. Same when he had the ball in hand - he was throwing it to about half way but most of our players were lining up as if he was going to kick it into our defensive third. We should have been 10 yards further forward to either win the initial contest or put immediate pressure on the second ball if they won the duel. Its all really basic stuff. The Cowdenbeath fan who was with us last night and saw us for the first time in ages was picking up on loads of stuff withinf about 20 minutes yet nobody in our team or on our bench seemed to see what everyone else could see.

Rovers took their corners, free kicks etc very quickly too. They knew what had to be done and their players were ready each time. No faffing about.

2 or 3 times they took short corners and we never had a single player out to mark the man. Incredibly basic stuff. I think there is a psychological thing with them and us now, at half time I had absolutely no doubt they would win the game despite us being on top for the last 10 mins of the first half.

We never do cover short corners and take an age to get out to them - also we barely leave anyone up front at corners no matter what the score is! Its very frustrating

It’s annoying to lose a derby, but in the cold light of day, I shouldn’t get too upset. At least not about events on the park. It is disappointing of course.

Raith are a better team, but with a little luck I thought we could have drawn that (or even won it). But football can be a game of fine margins.

Again we made defensive errors, again we didn’t capitalise on our chances. And again we had disruptive injuries.

I keep changing my mind on Mehmet’s culpability for the first goal. Initially I thought he was at fault, then I thought it was a very dangerous ball in (did the ref allow them two goes at it?) and that staying on his line was the correct decision as any touch would take it beyond him. To an extent that was justified as he stopped the first effort, but again the opposition reacted better. But then I think he could perhaps have come for it. VAR might describe it as not a clear and obvious error. Maybe this betrays a lack of confidence?

The second goal was annoying for several reasons. First, we were caught a bit flat footed at a throw-in – the Raith player was already making his run before the shy was taken so he knew they were going to take a quick one. We defended the first one, then gave away a corner which we didn’t defend. Edwards lost his man and was Wighton meant to be on the post? Incidentally we often defend with all 11 back at a corner – I think the theory is that we are a small team, so crowding the area with extra players makes it hard for the attacking players to get a run and jump.

Our goal looked very simple – almost like a testimonial goal – back off, back off, let him shoot, then make a half-hearted attempt to stop the shot. But Summers did generate a surprising amount of pace. If only Joe Chalmers had done that in the first minute.

We created some decent chances – Wighton miscued a header in the first half, Comrie was very unlucky this week with a flying header – I remember he got booked for mistiming a similar opportunity at Killie when he was later red-carded and given he was already on a yellow, that was a brave attempt. Jakubiak did very well with his effort that slammed off the goal-frame and you can tell Sutherland (T) has an eye for a goal – he managed one header on target and was close to getting on the end of a near-post cross from Edwards.

At one stage I counted 8 Pars in the opposition box, so we were certainly putting them under pressure – I would like them to spread out a bit more – maybe one hanging beyond the back post (see the comment on defending corners).

Of course, all these enforced absences mean it’s difficult to pick a balanced team or play the way you want to. Maybe we will be forced to play more attack minded players and it will become fun to watch?

And I think the Fisher injury is a consequence of other injuries – with a settled back line you are less likely to have two players going for the same ball, and you wouldn’t ha

...and I think the Fisher injury is a consequence of other injuries – with a settled back line you are less likely to have two players going for the same ball, and you wouldn’t have Hamilton losing his balance and falling on Fisher as he wouldn’t be having to win the header in the first place. Otoo made an error and Breen dived in to compensate, and hurt himself. Hopefully Otoo will make fewer errors as he matures, but again I’m not sure it helps when the defence has to be changed every 30 minutes.

Didn`t seem to put anyone on near post for corners at Ayr. Just Chalmers on back post. So maybe it`s deliberate?
