Are you suggesting we`re next, Wetherby? 🤔

I hope James McPake and Dave Mackay will be at EEP for a good few years yet. We consolidate our Championship place this season and build a squad capable of promotion next.

no , just observing that teams usually get a bounce with a new manager, I wonder if we will see one at Ayr ? I do think Queens Park made a very smart appointment.

I think stats have been collected on the so-called "new manager bounce" and it`s not as common as we tend to imagine. Our brains are trained to remember things that happen rather than those that don`t. The exception is when it`s our own club. Do you remember the bounce when John Hughes replaced Peter Grant?

Neither do I. 😞

Up at Inverness? He wasn`t even officially the manager yet. He just sat in the stand. 😂🤣

Pretty sure Greg Shields picked the team that day and was in the dugout.

That`s really harsh. It was 2 games. We thumped Ayr the next week and i was firmly on the Yogi bus. I witnessed it crashing and burning the next league game at Hamilton. Kinda knew we were Donald Ducked that day.

Confirmed by BBC Sport:-

Ayr United have condemned "abuse both online and in stadiums over recent weeks" directed at Lee Bullen as they parted company with their head coach. They and Arbroath occupy the bottom two places after Saturday`s 0-0 draw at Gayfield Park and Queen`s Park`s surprise win over leaders Raith Rovers. Former Sheffield Wednesday caretaker Bullen took charge in January 2022.

Ayr chairman David Smith said the decision to part with the 52-year-old came "with real regret". Pointing to the behaviour of some fans, he told his club website: "Nobody deserves any form of abuse, it is never justifiable and we urge supporters to challenge this type of behaviour whenever they see or hear it."

The Ayr chairman added that "it is undeniable that the club is unrecognisable from the one Lee walked in to over two years ago and this is testament to his work throughout his time as head coach". Smith said Bullen had consistently met the club targets - including "generating a significant player sale for the first time in many years" - while the relationship with the club`s academy "has never been stronger".

I`m not sure Lee will take much comfort from these parting words.

So he condemns the abuse but has absolutely buckled to it.

All to often you see managers getting abuse and remaining in a job, the moment the supporters ire turns on those on the board though, the manager is axed

What about if we finish bottom or second bottom? Surely that wouldn’t be good enough either?

The panic has set in from Ayr and you can’t blame them. I would like to think we’d be assessing things in the coming weeks if we’re sitting bottom or second bottom too.

I think that purely depends on how much backing McPake gets with new additions in January, especially with all the injuries. It would be cruel to want him sacked if we cannot strengthen, even if we’re struggling near the bottom. Hopefully that situation never comes. It would be extremely disappointing to see us near the bottom, especially when we’ve been in the playoffs for the majority of the season without even playing that well.

Saturday is a big game for us and we badly need 3 points from it. Hopefully the extra week off will see another signing and players with injuries/niggles returning a bit fresher.

We need players in & back from injury. We`ve already got a good management team.

I`d be very disappointed in the board if they were to panic and get rid of the management team. It shouldn`t really be up for discussion at all this season. They have done well so far, and have had an awful time trying to navigate a way through this unprecedented injury crisis.
I think McPake is a good, young, hungry manager. We have him on a decent term contract and I would hope he is part of the long term plan.
Chopping and changing management teams isn`t always the answer, we need to look at the bigger picture

I we finish bottom or 2nd bottom and end up relegated then mcpake has failed his objectives and his skills should come into question.

The objectives this year is to survive and compete.

We are on course for both of them despite our issues.

Next year the objectives will change.

What level are Ayr expecting to attract a manager?

Would have had him in a heartbeat after Grant and Hughes!

I`m going to stick my neck out and say we won`t finish in the bottom 2. I`m basing this on the belief that we`ll get at least some of our injured players back in the coming weeks and that will bring about an upturn in results. If we did finish in the bottom 2 that would almost certainly be due to our injury woes continuing and us not having brought in some decent replacements in the Jan window. The blame would not be entirely down to McPake, so he should not be an automatic sacking.

Only if McPake does so well that he establishes the Pars in the Premiership and a bigger club makes him an offer we can`t match.
