Aberdeen through to the semi final of the Scottish Cup after beating Kilmarnock 3-1

And their manager Neil Warnock has just parted company with them. Utterly bizarre

Absolutely pathetic from the GK. Puts it right back into the danger then is stuck in mud for the header. Horrendous goal to lose.

We need our creative players to pick up their game. Moffat and Todd having poor games and KRH too defensive so far.

Pretty normal for us against Raith
probably had the edge but find ourselves 1-0 down
thought it was a Good save initially from Mehmet but after reviewing it on the replay he should have done better , you cannot go putting back into the danger area ! I also thought our defense was sleeping as Stanton had all the time in the world to header it in
So for me avoidable , now got a mountain to climb
Plenty huffing and puffing but that does not win you games ,
looks like our Hoodoo against them is still on , almost the only team to not to take points off them
Cannot see where we will score from at present ,

Just saw it again Raymie so retract the good save bit
It`s goals like that which can lose you the game
we need to start scoring goals but we never seem likely to do that , too many snatched shots or miles off target
Unfortunately for us teams around us are picking up results
So looks like a nervy run in till the end of the season

We aren’t playing terribly. We are still in this game. Thought Mehmet was at fault for the goal. Dealt with the free kick poorly, you need to push that away to the right if you can’t catch it.

I’d swap Mehmet for any other first choice goalie in the championship … he makes one or two good saves (now and again), but too often he looks like a rabbit caught in headlights. He did well in league one, but is the weakest gk in this league by a country mile.

Both summers and Moffat a bit too lightweight, it’s not ideal that pretty much one has to play every game as we’re reliant on them for creativity.

Just lacking that bit of quality up top to make the difference… if we can get a couple of decent strikers in and an experienced consistent creative midfielder we would defo be in with a shout of being in the top 3.

Problem is if we stay up can we afford them?

As per usual , we get chances cannot take them !
We limit Raith`s chances to a minimum but still find ourselves 2 down ,but that`s the difference between us and Raith they have strikers who can put it in the back of the net and hurt you !
What do we have in our ranks ? Nobody capable of consistently taking any chances we make
once again I would say we were the better team against them but once again looks like we will be taking nothing from this game

We are a blunt pencil. We have zero goalscoring ability. We are in deep trouble and will be deeper by Friday night. Relegation playoffs look a certainty right now.

Bannockburn par, I’m not sure we can do that with McCann and wighton under contract for next year. Can at least loan McCann down a level or 2 I guess.

It’s a mess, those under contract for next year are the ones being dropped as not good enough…

Yeah massive headache as both are not good enough. Hopefully we avoid the playoffs and have some sort of clear out.

Despite controlling large parts of that game today we lose out after make t a couple of stupid errors. Even when we were controlling the game we never really looked like scoring my apart from Otoo’s effort from outside the box. We lack the killer instinct to beat teams.

This squad needs a big overhaul in the summer regardless of what league we end up playing in next year.

Just back from the game. Didn`t see Berkey funnily enough. I didn`t expect much today but at least we gave Raith a game this time. 2-0 was a bit harsh but they have good players who can win a game on their own. A homer ref also helps. Some genuinely shocking decisions.

Unfortunately we don`t have the quality required to win a game like that and that needs addressed in the summer if we`re going to progress

I`ve seen that film many times and it doesn`t get any more enjoyable. Decent first half, soft goal conceded out of nothing, got in to some good positions but no quality. A bit of a flurry early on in the second half but then very little, daft second goal and pathetic subs by McPake again. Otoo was comfortably our best player, so take him off? Matty Todd was poor again, leave him on. Summers was also quite lively so take him off. Stick rigidly with a 3 at the back in the second half, even when we are now no longer looking threatening. Don`t use Moffat at all, even though he`s looked good recently and is suited to an artificial surface.

McPake talks pre-game about being disciplined and within 2 minutes he`s being spoken to by the referee - yes he was hopeless, but whining at him is only going to hurt our chances of getting 50/50 decisions.

4 league defeats, a cup defeat and a draw we shouldnt have got this season v the Rovers - what a record 😂😂

Did the players and manager not get the memo at FT either? Seemed a bit weird the length of time and the looks on their faces as they stood clapping whilst not getting much in return…..

We are absolutely mince. Absolutely nothing going forward.
Baffling substitute to make by taking off Otoo, could literally have taken anyone else off.
Hosler was spent after about an hour, was one on one with the full back at least 3 times and decided to come back.

Surely an injury, cause that sub effectively killed the game for us

Otoo had our best chance the second half, was playing very well.. subbed then Easton who was quiet for the most of the game scores very shortly after. I even thought Holmes coming on instead of Moffat was a bit bizarre but on to the next I guess ?

How Otoo didn’t make FT but KRH and Todd did is baffling! Why we didn’t go to a back 4 was strange too - 3 target men on pitch and kept trying to pass through them.

And dont get me started on our final ball - shocking as per usual!

You clearly don’t know me or observe my posts very often then, as I am full of praise when deserved as much as I am critical when deserved. Youd also noticed Ive actually called out Berkey numerous times this season for being negative…..

But to played the Rovers 6 times in a season and not win a single one is not acceptable. And the strange behaviour to stand applauding for 2 minutes at FT needs looked at IMO - was it maybe McPake trying to show the players the disappointment amongst the fans? Or was it just some weird posturing?

I think I’m just a realist who calls it out as I see it.

You seem to spend a lot of time on here defending players who are just not good enough and using whataboutery to deflect from bad performances from both individuals and as a team.

It’s been a pretty poor season with a number of players previously singled out by many on here as being poor having since been dropped…..are we all wrong and should instead concentrate on the positives? Ie at least the players came to clap the stand at the end of today’s game?

Back to being drenched in my own negativity….

Just home. Thought we played quite well overall. Great effort by Josh in the first half and Otoo should have buried his chance granted its a good save. Few moments in the box just didn`t fall right for us unfortunately.

Ben Summers grew into the game and showed alot more dig too. Great tight area footwork at times.

I echo a previous poster Josh needs to work on his final ball big time. It`s painful. Jak put a shift in.

Thought Bene was solid and my MOTM he made a phenomenal challenge in the first half to deny them. I was worried cos he was wincing after that a little. But he brushed it off. Matty had a poor game today again just didn`t get going.

Ref didn`t give us much at all. Was our penalty shout a pen in the first half? Not a great view from our stand.

McPake wants us to play a certain way by hook or by crook hopefully it all works out boys had plenty effort we just need that wee bit in the final 3rd but we knew that.

Disappointed not to get one over the wee team in the league this season. It restores the pride and gives the bragging rights for a bit. Didn`t think they were up to much today other than the goals.

Anyway. Dundee Utd on Friday. We usually perform well when cameras are there. COYP

This whole club reeks of underperformance.

From the board all through to the management coaches and players. And we lost £1M this last year with more losses to come it’s rumoured.

Since this investment group came in we’ve gone backwards in all ways.

Relegation, and another potentially on the cards
Money losses the like we haven’t seen since admin with more to come
10th largest attendance in Scottish football but real risk of 3rd tier football.

The new owners at Raith had a clear plan and it’s working. Our lot…..results both on and off the park say it all.

Sheer lethargy, incompetence and failure.

We tend to play well but things go south if we lose the first goal. Raith played the same dark arts as Airdrie.
The goal came from a free kick that was a blatant dive. Raith were at it all over the pitch.
Who really thought we were going to equalise after going behind? We had one excellent chance but their keeper pulled off an outstanding save.
What has happened to Edwards over the last number of games? Nothing is working for him.
Against Airdrie and Raith we have put loads of crosses into the box from long throws, corners, and free kicks and I think we won one.
So, until we learn so score, again, we are facing a dire run in.

Another disappointing night , looking on the plus side only 8 games to be miserable about , we better hope ICT , QP, and AYR falter or we know what we are staring at ,
At Present there is nothing to look forward to ,
Will be staying in the house on Friday night as I can only see another defeat

Didn`t think the free kick that lead to the first was a foul. I had a good view of it and Hamilton clearly got the ball.
That said, the combination of having no focal point to hit crosses at and not moving the ball quickly enough and letting them get bodies around the box made it a hard watch.
I`m not having Mehmet criticised for the first goal as was suggested earlier. He made a very good stop and their man was ready for it better than those around him.

I thought we played well, really well up until the 2nd goal.

Putting the ball into the net has been a bit of an issue for us for 2 seasons.

Its not a personnel issue as these guys are professional footballers who can all shoot, pass tackle etc.

I feel mcpake likes to pack the midfield either 3-5-1-1 or recently 4-5-1 but it leaves the man up top with too much to do and not enough support.

They are not bad footballers by any stretch of the imagination even with the injuries and I feel someone else at the helm could`ve got better results out of that team.

We could have played all day and still would never have scored, our ability in front of goal is appaling and has been all season , Mcpakes decision making is frightening at times replacing Otoo with the hapless Mcann and then bringing on Holmes who is arguably worse than Mcann just finished the game for us .

We can’t even contemplate going back to L1. With a loss of £1m last year, and likely to be near to that again this season, the consequences of that are unthinkable.

I love positivity, and I want the best for my club and its players.

But at times we have to take emotion out and look at the bare facts.

We have been, and are, going backwards. With no clear functional plan of how to progress.

Now there is the best sum up post on here .. well done theparsman

He’s hurting in there. Of course he is. He wanted to come back to this club where he played for so long – he had a great time here – and win for us. He’s in there, he’s annoyed, he’s frustrated, but I was pleased with his performance, not too many more.”

McPake openly criticised Mehmet for the first goal. I thought that was a bit harsh as that ball was shifting and he didn`t have much time to react to it but the fact that he named him maybe shows the pressure he is feeling.

I think realistically and the facts speak for themselves. It`s all down to the striking.

Jakubiak, McCann and Homles can`t shoot for anything. Kane plays and we`re winning?. It`s no secret we just don`t score, everything else is in place.

The difference one good striker can make to us is palpable. They can influence the game in so many ways that even if they themselves don`t score, it allows others to shine.

I also don`t think it was a free kick, but, after combining to lose the ball, the two Pars` players didn`t defend the kick, allowing the Rovers player to take the free kick, albeit from the wrong place.

"Who in earth saw a player in holmes"

McPake, saw him play in person during the summer....

his selection and tactics....wrong yet again, this time with the midfield and behind Jakubiak. back to 3 at the back the rest of the season if Benedictus stays fit, cant wait for that.

even if Kane was fit, would he have made any difference with that line up, tactic, plan etc etc, no imo.

The managers` views :-

Raith Rovers manager Ian Murray: "It was a typical derby performance of a good solid team. I felt they controlled the first half hour then we score out of nothing.

"Credit to Dunfermline today as I thought they played well again but they just can`t beat us at the moment. We know that won`t last so we need to enjoy it while it lasts."

Dunfermline Athletic manager James McPake: "We have had lots of possession in the final third but Raith were more desperate to score goals than us. That`s what hurts me today.

"We can look to open teams up but there is a reason Raith are where they are and we are where we are. They have that cutting edge."

The main psychological advantage that I’ve seen is how the team have played when Kane has played these last few weeks.

When he plays others up their game and we look much better. When he doesn’t the rest of the team seem to know it will be a struggle to score and hence win with jak/mccann up there.

I don’t know how great the likes of mccann and jak look in training but if the fans are gutted Kane doesn’t play I’d suggest the players also know it’s going to be so much harder to get a result.

Back to being drenched in my own negativity….

As Kane hasn`t featured in any of our games against the Rovers and wasn`t even at the club for five of them, it`s hard to see how he could have any impact on the psychological advantage they seem to have over us this season.

I think that statement kind of answers itself.

A decent player with no history against them might make the difference in the rest of team believing we`ve got a cutting edge this time?.

It is beyond frustrating to watch the Pars these days. Barring Chris Kane, our attack force—McCann, Jakubiak, Holmes, and the injured Wighton—is insufficient quality for today`s Championship.

If you are brave enough to watch the Pars TV highlights when they become available, you will see from a very good angle just how sweet Ewan Otoo`s shot on goal was hit, and what a beautiful save the Rovers goalie pulled off. Had that gone in, the game’s direction may well have completely changed.

I know this is going to be a bit left-field, but our options are already thin. How about trying Otoo upfront? He has already proven his versatility and strength in combat, and his natural game is very much geared toward thrusting forward.

It`s just a thought, but Ewan is such a hard worker, and I can see him succeeding in an advanced position, forcing openings where our current strike force will forever struggle. And if that is too outrageous, let’s at least see two strikers in any variation that involves four at the back. This three-at-the-back nonsense has killed us this season. And please, let’s see more of Taylor Sutherland.

The skill difference between almost every team in the league (save Arbroath) is fractional. The difference, and this is an obvious thing to point out, is quite plainly the ability to score. Inverness in 9th have conceded 4 less goals than the Rovers but have scored 16 less which is the difference in league position.

We have talent up front but none of them are prolific goal scorers and never have been. We can do everything right at the back (and in fairness we usually do) but we`re playing the ball up the park in the hope it finds its way in the net. Kane being out the last 2 hasn`t helped.

If my math is right, based on the last 3 years, about 39 points or 10 wins should see us safe. We need to get this season over with and then come back with a plan. Which hopefully doesn`t involve Peter Grant total football.

Nope. You`re defo way off with that one. Otoo is a good player but somehow he gets away with dodgy passes that put us in danger. Quite often.

Us without Hamilton( God forbid) and on the showing yesterday Bene being back. Bene was outstanding

so was Hammy Pars Fan born and bread that boy is the only one ready to get shitty for the badge . I`ve said elsewhere. McPake sounds raging in his interview. So he should be. He can only do so much. We played them aff the ****** Park.

Thanks for that, DNCH. I was going to check these stats myself. I think we need 3 wins from our last 8 games, or a combination of wins and draws, to be safe.

Nobody will expect us to take 3 pts on Friday, which may actually work in our favour. United are hardly unbeatable, and we did OK last time we were on the telly. 🤞

We bossed that game up until the 2nd goal. Both goals were totally avoidable.

On another day that game would`ve been the most comfortable 0-0 or even 1 nil to us.

We need to make the keeper work more.

There is an absolute belting team in amongst the squad we just need to unlock the potential. Can the current management team do that? I don`t know.

I do believe we will be seeing the likes of McCann, summers, moffat for years to come. Similar to us seeing Byrne and shankland etc have decent careers.

Tough one to take given we had the majority of possession and generally looked pretty comfortable throughout but fair play to Raith, they took their chances.

This season is all about avoiding relegation and I still think we’ll do just that but it will be a close run thing.

I don’t think anyone really expected us to win today, if they did then perhaps they’ve been disillusioned by recent performances.

The positives are we got Benedictus back fit and more minutes in KRH and Todd.

It’s also a tough fixture out the way, and very little ground made up by other teams in similar bother. Appreciate isn’t a great way to think about things, but this is where we are at the moment.

Dundee Utd next Friday we could well face a similar fate.

The signings of Holmes etc I’m reserved on my view on them tbh, when you see who McPake went for, they were the right kind of signings but it could’ve been a case of slim pickings in the end and a matter of just urgently needing to make the numbers up.

We talk about McCann, every manager pre McPake has really rated him, are all of them wrong?

I struggle to defend Mehmet though, really not a fan, beggars belief he got such a long contract off the back of a League One season and that save from the free kick was quite frankly brutal.

The question is how do we turn the good outfield play into opportunities in front of goal. You can only play as well as the other teams let you. We get closed down too easily in the final 3rd of the park, and when we do get opportunities we don`t hit the target enough and work the keeper. Obviously, the purpose of the game is to win. That means you have to score goals. We are doing everything else but that hence we are in the position we are. We are not a bad team, we have good players, but we need to focus more on creating chances and hitting the target more.

In addition. Not sure you were at the game yesterday or not but you could hear the fans wanting it to go wide to Kane. But expectations need to be lowered cos this league is different gravy.

And sorry Raymie I want someone who is effective in this league especially given the position we find ourselves in.. I dont want to have to wave to Falkirk on the way past. See my post after the match before I get labled.

KRH was very frustrating yesterday. Earlier in the season whenever Jakubiak got it wide, he would always try to beat his man down the line - didn’t always come off but at least he had a go. KRH didn’t once try beat his man yesterday, even when squared up against the booked Easton, he would always cut back then do nothing of note.

‘The foreseeable future’ is what I’ve been told. Seems quite telling that the manager didn’t address his absence in his interviews. Really hope I’m wrong, but if it was short-term I’d have thought McPake would want to reassure us of Kane’s availability, given how much we miss him on the pitch.

I know I will get accused of being patronising etc. but here is my take on Dunfermline.

I feel that we defended better than we have in a long time.
Big Kev`s save was phenomenal. If that went in you would have had a really good chance at getting something from the game. Thankfully it was kept out.
I have so much respect for Kyle Benedictus - apart from being a genuinely nice guy he put in a good shift and the fact he has been out for so long I felt he played well. He is an asset to your team.
Your keeper is as questionable as a keeper as Callum Smith is as a penalty taker.
You played the ball around better than I have seen all season. The problem was no cutting edge up front. Every DAFC supporter I know tells me you need someone who can score goals... on that performance that is very true.

Can’t disagree with that. I’d say we were possibly the better team in 2/3 of the pitch, until we took Otoo off. After that, Rovers were dominant all over the pitch. However, the struggles in the final third have been there all season and there’s no excuse for not sorting this. Jakubiak (and others at times) made some good runs, then played the ball into dangerous areas and the only question was which Raith player was going to get there, since we had nobody trying to get into a scoring position.

KRH played his first full game after missing virtually three-quarters of the season. The only way he will get sharper is by playing games. I thought he did OK, all things considered.

Agree with wee eck on KRH, his game is about sharpness in terms of pace etc so he’s going to need a good few weeks to get that sharpness back to give the edge over defenders. He may well struggle to make an impact but we won’t know for sure until the last 5 games of the season.

What I don’t understand is playing a 3-5-2 type formation when we don’t have any strikers? I’m not sure which position you would consider Jak and McCann as being ‘good’ at but they ain’t strikers.

If your plan was to play this way this season why sign or extend contracts of players like Jak, o’hallaran and McCann they just don’t fit into the system regardless of if they are even good enough which is a different issue.

Now we’re likely stuck with 2 of them warming a bench next season perhaps even alongside wighton if he ever regains fitness.

Back to being drenched in my own negativity….

We`ve never played a 3-5-2,

Yesterday was a 4-5-1 but the 5 in midfield were fluid in the sense that otoo could go forward, Hamilton was fixed just in front of the back 4, and KRH was out wide right but other than that Todd and summers were both free roaming.

When we play 3 at the back it`s still only 1 up front with others buzzing about around them.

We didn’t play 3-5-2 yesterday, to be fair. Was more of a 3-6-1/5-4-1. Jakubiak was on his own up front, with Summers and Todd behind him. But Jakubiak is the sort of striker that undoubtedly needs a partner if he’s going to be effective. He’s not going to score goals, but he causes defences problems and creates space. I also just don’t think any of our other options are a good partner for him though.

I also don’t understand KRH as a wing back at this level. We have a lot less of the ball, so our wing backs need to do a lot of defending. This is not a strength of KRH’s game. Indeed, I think he’d be much better in the 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 we’ve played recently, as a winger. It’s no surprise to see us struggle, in the same way we have for the last 3 months, when we’ve gone to the back 3.

KRH and MWH were both out of position. Switching to a back 4 would have been really easy, with MWH going to his natural RB role and KRH moving forward into a more natural role for him. But our manager wasn’t willing to change it, even though we had zero attacking threat. Todd and Summers looked lost out there and should have been the first players to come off. It wasn’t their day at all, but McPake seems to have his favourites and will try to squeeze them into his system, even if it doesn’t work at all. Otoo and Hamilton in midfield, protecting a back 4 should be a solid enough defensive shape/system, would have allowed us to play most players in their natural positions as well.

KRH did pretty well I thought yesterday, he was more effective coming inside and trying to play some combinations, not really much point in him trying to get to the byeline and hang up crosses for Jakubiak who isn`t great in the air and Summers at the back post.

Matty Todd was our poorest attacking player, most of our promising moves broke down with him. His movement and energy is always a threat, but there needs to be some quality - you could say that about most of our attacking players. Summers looked more lively, he should have had a chance to play centrally behind Jak. Not using Moffat at all was strange and the substitution of Otoo was ridiculous.

Very frustrating, because we were the better side for an hour against the team that is second top, defensively we looked very comfortable yet we conceded twice. It was very fine margins that decided the game, a half mistake from Mehmet and ball breaking to Stanton, a miracle save from Dabrowski and then Welch-Hayes moving out of the path of the ball. Some soft free-kicks and some `home` friendly refereeing didn`t help either.

That said its McPake`s job to make sure the fine margins go in our favour, it`s his squad, so if the strikers or keeper aren`t up to scratch - its on him. As it the drop in the level of performance in the last 30 minutes of the last two games, which yes is partly confidence after conceding a second goal, but it is also largely due to his poor substitutions and tactics.

Nah, KRH was definitely at RWB yesterday. MWH, Benedictus and MFW were the back 3.

We had the players to play a 4-2-3-1 formation yesterday, which is used by many teams in the modern era.

I’m a firm believer that formations should be determined by who is available to get the best out of each player

Miles Welch-Hayes Actually jumps out of the way of the ball for the 2nd goal as well which I never noticed at the time.

87Par,

im gonna call it now. ,KRH will not be as effective in this league.

He won’t be as effective playing against better defenders? That’s hardly rocket science, is it ?

Ewan has so much potential but his first touch is a literal bombscare at times. I do wonder what Pars fans see sometimes.

Perhaps his strength, running power, attitude and ability to play in a number of positions ? His first touch and passing will improve as he matures.

Matty needs to get up a gear. He`s a talent. But it`s business end now.

He’s missed a lot of games. You don’t get up to match fitness after a game or two and everyone is allowed an off day

I wasn’t there but did see the game. You have to cut KRH some slack, imo.
He’s been injured lots and it takes time to get your confidence back. It’s natural to be a little cautious, as you contemplate another injury, in the back of your mind

Completely agree. We should be using the best system for the players available, rather than forcing them into a shape that doesn’t play to their strengths. Played so many players out of position, when a 4-2-3-1 (the shape we’ve actually used in our wins recently) would have meant players were in their natural/best positions. I don’t understand McPake’s stubbornness here, it’s cost us far too many points and I’m really concerned that he’s gone back to that system and refused to change it during the game as well, when it wasn’t working… again!

We rarely look like a threat going forward and constantly concede soft goals, not exactly a recipe for success. If we do manage to stay safe this season there needs to be a drastic rethink in the summer about how the team approaches the championship.

It`s a remarkable feat that year after year in the championship this club is run so poorly despite the money coming in from the fanbase.

Its great to have Bene and KRH back, but they will both need time to get up to their best again. Hopefully KRH offers us something a bit different going forward, but unless we stick MFW up front we`re winning very few headers from crosses. Cutting the ball back to the penalty spot for Todd and Otoo though might be a better bet.

I`d be gutted if I was Paul Allan. He was a MOM contender for me the previous 3 games, but found himself hooked against Airdrie then dropped to the bench yesterday. Half of our goals in the last 8 games came from set pieces but our best taker of those was benched.

Miles Welch-Hayes getting out of the way was criminal at this level, he’s yet to convince me he’s decent at all. Comrie who has been distinctly average this season is far better.

I did hope we would get a chance from a corner but not yesterday, we have more height in the team now and the excellent Hamilton too. Holmes had a good glancing head that hit the post in a previous game could he play centre? He was put in wide area instead either that or stick a centre half in the middle towards games end and quick poacher like sutherland.

He`s a good solid player who could play for any championship club easy, you could see the within 5 minutes he got on debut.

It would be interesting to know If he got a shout or if he thought he was more to side so the ball was going wide.

But he should a just headed it

The performance was an I.provement on the last RR game at EEP where we were outplayed and deserved to lose. The issue now is a different one. The defence and midfield need to have some confidence that we can score goals in the final 3rd.

I don`t see any lack of effort. The heads can go down if we lose a goal and have no confidence we can score to get back in the game.
